Title: CCXFactor Wk 2 (Disco) - Interval Entertainment!
Description: perform your faves here!

SuperBRAT - December 11, 2007 09:58 PM (GMT)
I thought people might like to post their favourite songs each week on a thread to accompany Liam's comp. A kind of interval performance if you like :) Anyone is welcome, contestant or not. This week's theme is disco so post your faves and discuss the genre. Those of you who are not in can post what you would have entered and so on. This week is D-I-S-C-O so discuss your faves and any interesting ones here. :ok:

Here's a few of my faves from the female divas, and what great singers there were in the disco era as it had it's roots in the 60's soul and Motown and the Philly Sound :

Candi Staton - Young Hearts Run Free

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=YWe5r2GZoeI

Great vocalist and moving song. I almost chose this for my entry but sold out slightly for popularity. Brillaint example of the Philly soul. Candi is a hell of a singer

If I Can't Have You - Yvonne Elliman

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7Do14z5ycic

From Saturday Night Fever, suits the scene so well. A bit smaltzy and I just LOVE love it. :D

Donna Summer - On the Radio

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=D7-qMrJ0Kn8

Well she is the Queen of Disco, and what a voice  This is a fave of mine, less well known but a beautiful and yet disco song. :) Why they don't do this on X-Factor I really don't know. Gives the chance to sing slower and well and be up tempo also.

Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Xv6lHwWwO3w

Don't care what folks say, this song and vocal sends shivers up the spine. The ULTIMATE disco hit. :ok: So positive. And poor Gloria was in a back brace after a spinal injury to do this! And it was intended as a B Side but the DJs played it and then things changed. FABULOUS ! :D

Donna Summer - Love to Love You Baby

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ndUWo05U0Ao

This is fantastic, so much better than I Feel Love and an early example of production legend Gorgio Moroder at work. What a groove, it's literally orgasmic and that guy in the video is hailrious!

Cheryl Lynn - Got to Be Real

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=EoXvDleWJ5U

A very influential song, but not so well cited. We all know it in the disco though and it's a great groove. :ok:

Chaka Khan - Aint Nobody

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=b4dvhf9ayKU

What a singer! Shame she had the problems with drugs or we might have heard more hits :( If you like funky check out her stuff with Rufus before she was famous as a solo artist.

Jocelyn Brown - Somebody Else's Guy

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=KnydRTNyVdo

Bit of 80s disco, whihc became a bit predictable and less elaborate on the intrumental side, but very well done indeed and good bass. :ok:

I got all those tunes :D Bacara is well cheesy, two Spanish accents that can't sing but it's fun, and I love Tina Charles :D

Here's some I like by groups with a female vocal (i'm working through and will do the blokes later but most of my faves are female).

Lipps Inc - Funky Town

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=CUm6TCbEK0g

One of my fave disco songs ever, it's done by session singers not an actual group :) What a beat.

Odyssey - Native New Yorker

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=t7MalC-d-C0

This is a lovely song to listen to, nto just dance fun. Llove her voice. :) Shame the video has been removed!

Chic - Good Times

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=eTQMMiHpeN8

Le Freak is great of course, but I like this one and the bassist Nile Rogers is a legend and the girls are so sophisticated. Very influential, and one of the first real aspirational black bands as they portrayed a postive have it all lifesyle and were not downtrodden. :ok:

A Taste of Honey - Boogie Ooogie Oogie

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=LiMgxNp-cMM

Such a cool atmospheric song, great bass riff. I can't keep my feet still.

The Emotions - Best of My Love

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=NSQrIr-TfAs

These girls were the protype in many ways for Eternal, TLC, Destiny's Child. They also sing on Boogie Wonderland by Earth Wind and Fire another great tune. :) Great uplifting song. :)

Sister Sledge - He's the Greatest Dancer and Lost in Music

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7LUie81E82k

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=tZmIv-JY1iI

These girls were a great family act and Lost has great lyrics. The bass is great, I think Nile Rogers fromChic played it and may have produced also.

Labelle - Lady Marmalade

As seen on the X Factor now, such a great funky souly shake all you got kinda tune. Such attitude and Patti Labelle was a great singer. And the covers are all shit so get out of town and leave Patti to it !

The basslines are great on much of disco and I love that side of it. Most of th emusic I love si quite serious so soul and disco are my uplitfing escape. :D

Isn't she a great singer! Goes to prove disco had quality - much more so than today's dance msuic.
