I thought people might like to post their favourite songs each week on a thread to accompany Liam's comp. A kind of interval performance if you like :) Anyone is welcome, contestant or not. This week's theme is disco so post your faves and discuss the genre. Those of you who are not in can post what you would have entered and so on. This week is D-I-S-C-O so discuss your faves and any interesting ones here. :ok:
Here's a few of my faves from the female divas, and what great singers there were in the disco era as it had it's roots in the 60's soul and Motown and the Philly Sound :
Candi Staton - Young Hearts Run Free
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=YWe5r2GZoeIGreat vocalist and moving song. I almost chose this for my entry but sold out slightly for popularity. Brillaint example of the Philly soul. Candi is a hell of a singer
If I Can't Have You - Yvonne Elliman
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7Do14z5ycicFrom Saturday Night Fever, suits the scene so well. A bit smaltzy and I just LOVE love it. :D
Donna Summer - On the Radio
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=D7-qMrJ0Kn8Well she is the Queen of Disco, and what a voice  This is a fave of mine, less well known but a beautiful and yet disco song. :) Why they don't do this on X-Factor I really don't know. Gives the chance to sing slower and well and be up tempo also.
Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Xv6lHwWwO3wDon't care what folks say, this song and vocal sends shivers up the spine. The ULTIMATE disco hit. :ok: So positive. And poor Gloria was in a back brace after a spinal injury to do this! And it was intended as a B Side but the DJs played it and then things changed. FABULOUS ! :D
Donna Summer - Love to Love You Baby
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ndUWo05U0AoThis is fantastic, so much better than I Feel Love and an early example of production legend Gorgio Moroder at work. What a groove, it's literally orgasmic and that guy in the video is hailrious!
Cheryl Lynn - Got to Be Real
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=EoXvDleWJ5UA very influential song, but not so well cited. We all know it in the disco though and it's a great groove. :ok:
Chaka Khan - Aint Nobody
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=b4dvhf9ayKUWhat a singer! Shame she had the problems with drugs or we might have heard more hits :( If you like funky check out her stuff with Rufus before she was famous as a solo artist.
Jocelyn Brown - Somebody Else's Guy
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=KnydRTNyVdoBit of 80s disco, whihc became a bit predictable and less elaborate on the intrumental side, but very well done indeed and good bass. :ok:
