Title: Power players?

chokapova - December 2, 2007 12:46 PM (GMT)
Just an interestying stat here from the WTA tour on their new Power Index.
Amelie and Justine are actually ranked above the Williams sisters based on serves and ground strokes, very interesting... :)

I think it was everything dl, look at the link...

Amelie was ranked top... :yikes:

Let the excuses roll from a certain fanbase (dl not being a part of it) ;)

It kinda did surprise me to be fair, the Williams sisters are always being touted as 'the' power players of the WTA but it seems clear that Justine and Amelie are right up there... :)

They calculate the stat's in a very strange way.

The average of your best groundstroke, best return, best 1st serve, best 2nd serve is used to make it. Their average weight of shot is not taken into account.

I'm not surprised at Justine being there because she hit's the ball as hard as anyone now. But Amelie being at the top just show's the problems in the system.

This is not an excuse QJ, they are ranked above rightly so on this system. But Maria Kirilenko was ranked higher than Venus on this system once which just makes you wonder.

Ask any player who hits harder between the two and I think 100% would say Venus.

Yeah but Venus is ranked above Kirilenko now so case closed...

I think Kirilenko's problem is being capable of keeping the ball in court despite being able to hit the ball very hard... roflmao

Okay then ask any player who hits harder between Amelie and Venus...it's not even close really - Justine & WS power her off de court completely.

I do think there are some flaws in this power reader, as i cant recall Kirilenk hitting any shot that hard
