Title: favourite match of 2007
liam_valid - November 27, 2007 05:44 PM (GMT)
Obviously i have only really included the big names here and the big matches (although i have put Hantuchova winning another Indian Wells as a highlight, and Mummy Davenport beating top 3 player Jankovic en route to the Bali title). Feel free to add your own match and why you enjoyed it so much :)
Federer-Williams - November 27, 2007 05:51 PM (GMT)
Serena/Sharapova AO
Venus/Sharapova Wimbers comes close though
liam_valid - November 27, 2007 05:53 PM (GMT)
Even though i think the best quality match was Justine vs Venus my favourite match is a toss up between Lindsay winning Bali and Petrovas match with Serena at AO. I was happy that Petrova was playing positive tennis for a change, and i didnt think Serena stood a chance. But that was the first time we saw the rejuvinated Serena that went on to win the title. She looked at Nadia and said with her eyes 'you will not beat me' and she never looked like losing that tournament from then on

Great poll Liam :D
For me in terms of quality it's gotta be:
Justine v Venus US Open semi

Seriously good from both Justine and Venus, some amazing points! :yikes:
here are some highlights from youtube

I really wish Venus could've pulled out that second set, she had 3 breakpoints at 3-3 :( She still played great though :D
oh yeah and Justine played allright too ;) roflmao
One of the best women's matches in ages
But for sheer pleasure, my girl's rout of Sharapova was such a highlight :yahoo:

     But poor Maria!!!! Leave her alone or I'll set Kim on you! :P
I enjoyed the Justine Maria YEC final out of all the matches this year as it showed how far Maria has come this year and it also had great moments of tension and pressure.
The Venus Justine match at the US Open had the highest quality of tennis I think. Venus, despite what some folk say, was in great form int he US Open and Justine was also playing fantastic tennis so this match was the best "in form" match of the year I think. More of those next year please.....and more of them in slam finals please!!! :ok:

She was so helpless wasnt she. I bet she thought she was going to get an easy time because of venus's shaky form coming in, but not to be :tsk: :D
Venus didnt even face a single breakpoint and hit a serve at 126! :o

Not to be picky choka but why is Justine CEO and Serena president.
True I praise them both for their efforts but Serena DEMOOOLISHED her twice once in a slam final and Jusine beat her once in an epic 3 setter.
Aren't Serena's demolishments more supreme?

OFFS...
it's only a bit of fun...
Well if you must know, Justine wasn't in the club until the YEC final and it seemed appropriate she got made CEO as with the win she confirmed her dominance of the tour this year... :ok:
Not to say other players didn't have a good year but she did kinda stand out... :)
Gav - November 27, 2007 07:52 PM (GMT)
I'd like to "beat" Maria but not in the same way Serena, Venus and Justine did.... :P

Hehe Gav you can use some of those sly lines I made earlier...pretend your names Roger.
Cheer's choka I didn't mean an attack :)

Clijsters v jankovic sydney final!!
What a match!! . it gave me goosebumps on how much both girls were fighting for the win. its a shame that only one could win but kim showed her class(which is greatly missed). when she was down she kept coming back!
Kim come back!
GS2 - November 28, 2007 09:31 AM (GMT)
I put the Henin v Sharapova YEC final as I was there and it was such a great match to watch but Venus v Justine in the USO was undoubtably the highest quality match of the year.

I put Henin Vs Venus US Open.

Oh most definitely. Actually it's now my favourite Justine match EVER!! The tennis between Justine and Venus was just amazing and to the highest level, even though they both didn't play their 100% best :yikes:
Outstanding match and one that I will continue to watch and watch and watch! I have it on my computer, on DVD, on Sky+ and on my external hard drive roflmao
Even my best friend who just cannot stand tennis watched it and was amazed :o

Henin vs Venus for me too. Sheer quality of the game made me vote for it. Henin vs Shappy was great too but henin did not play her best tennis either.
laurie - November 29, 2007 01:14 PM (GMT)
I was absolutely lucky - and privileged to have a ticket for the WTA final in Madrid two weeks aso. By far the best match and atmosphere I've ever seen live. So I voted for that one.
I also think the Miami final between Serena and Justine would have been the same experience for those who were in Key biscayne that day. Those are the two best matches of the year in the womens.
Another great match was the Fed cup final between Svetlana Kuznetsova and Francesca Schiavone. Not many people would have seen it but it was an amazing match almost 3 hours long. I made clips of the match and put it on youtube.
liam_valid - November 29, 2007 04:19 PM (GMT)
I also loved Davenport beating Jankovic and the slagging match that ensued :P
