Title: What do you hope happens next year?

Dinky Jo - November 26, 2007 10:06 PM (GMT)
Looking forward to the next year of tennis, what do you really hope happens in the next year? Not what you *think* will happen, but what you really *hope* will happen - I suppose they could be the same thing :D

My first thought would have to be that I hope Mr Safin manages to string a few wins together

I also hope to see an amazing three-way rivalry develop between Federer, Nadal and Djokovic :ok:

oh, and i'd like to see Murray learn to stop swearing at everyone and everything :P

vivahate - November 26, 2007 10:13 PM (GMT)
fed to win the french and/or break/pass sampras' tally. those will be the goals for 08.

BIG-TODGER - November 26, 2007 10:13 PM (GMT)
I agree about Safin, he's too good to be wasting his talents.
I would love to see Fed win the French, more than any other slam he wants that one, so If Fed wins the French then Nadal can have Wimbledon

Gav - November 26, 2007 10:28 PM (GMT)
Grand Slam wise after Nalbandian's return to form I hope he can maintain that and I'd love to see him take the Aussie Open and US Open with Federer getting the French and Nadal getting Wimbledon. :ok:

I'd also like to see the re-emergence of Hewitt as a tennis power as I think he has it in him still and I love his agression on court. :ok:

I'd love to see Murray win a few Master Series titles and for Djoko to do well also....but perhaps leave the impersonations until after he has a few slams under his belt. :ok:

SuperBRAT - November 26, 2007 10:30 PM (GMT)
What do I want to happen next year? Well I'd like a new body, millionaire bank balance, a number one hit record and to run off into the sunset with Goran Ivanisevic next! :D

I did allude to tennis ;)

Big Al - November 26, 2007 10:35 PM (GMT)
Fed to at least win the French and Wimbledon .

Ill settle for that, but the calendar Slam would be fantastic. :)

The beaten finalists would be : AO : Djokovic French : Nadal
Wimbledon : Murray (sorry) US: Safin

My hope for the following year that with Federer retired and the undisputed GOAT, each of those finalists would win a Slam they hadnt before . Murray for Wimbledon of course .

SuperBRAT - November 26, 2007 10:39 PM (GMT)
My general wishesl: i'd like to see more

serve and volley cos I fear it is dying

faster grass at Wimby to encourage the art of S&V and proper grass court tennis (although Tim has gone :( )

a longer grasscourt season evolving

more passionate, explosive players who aren't afraid to lose their rag now and ten and engage you on court with drama and excitement - and I don't mean those who do the occassional fist pump whilst pulling their pants form their arse crack whilst sticking to the baseline.

British winners - we will get a GS one day :ok: And a huge improvement in women's british tennis - I want the LTA to get it's act together.

tickets available to the British pulbic for Wimby, Stella etc. like at th eUSo and AO.

and more players like Goran :D

oh and more competition in th ewomen's game - not just top 10 either, and more personalities and less bimbos. A new Navratilova or Novotna would be great, and more variety in the women's game in playign styles.

I bet i get noen fo the above

SuperBRAT - November 26, 2007 10:45 PM (GMT)
Players:

it would be great to see Fed win the GS, but above all i'd like to see him trash Rafa himself in the final at RG 6-0 6-0 6-0 :D

I'd like Murray to have an excellent injury free year, and win a GS as well (obviously that could screw Fed's GS but ...)

Woudl like to see Baghi and Gasquet do well, possibly win GSs , and become more consistent.

Woudl like to see the return to form of Mario Ancic, he's been out too long, he's the best S&V potential now and he's realyl nice cos I saw him close up at the Davis Cup :D

Would quite like to see Tursunov do better, he's quite a laugh and very mad.

Bogo to reach the top 5 - well you siad HOPE not likeliness! roflmao

And I wish Tim coudl make a come back and win Wimby, it will never be the same. God bless Tim :) Ditto Goran, although Tim might nto like that. oooh and Rafter. I do miss my faves :D

I can see it now......

....Boris and Andre, inspired by Pete's victory over Fed, return and show the young'uns a thing or two about how the oldies do it..... Boris eases to a 6-0 6-0 6-0 win over some young Transitional Swiss Fella in the SW19 final after Agassi turns on the style at RG with a triple bagel win in the final over some long haired Chippendale wannabe who can't stop playing with their pants between points (and no, I'm not talking about Steffi there).... :ok:

Maybe Andre wont mind if I keep Steffi 'occupied' during his miraculous victory over the King of Underwear :P

Federer-Williams - November 27, 2007 07:54 AM (GMT)
First of all I hope Fed keeps Wimby.
Second I hope he takes the French.
Third I hope he makes the Grandslam.
Fourth I hope makes the Golden Grandslam, I know it's a long shot but I think it's one of the last realistic chances a player will have to ahceive this feat in a long time given the ever increasing depth and specialism of surfaces.

Pebs - November 27, 2007 03:57 PM (GMT)
Fed to win the french :chesire:

Safin to come good

Blake to get one of the big uns

Hewitt to retire :runs:

Lex - November 27, 2007 04:07 PM (GMT)
:o

No Henman comeback Pebbles?

I'm shocked ;)

Pebs - November 27, 2007 04:10 PM (GMT)
:( I dont like to wish for the impossible - I really dont see that one happening - but trust me, deep down I wish for nothing more!

Wise_Analyst - November 27, 2007 05:43 PM (GMT)
Gasquet to get his act together.

Murray & Ancic to have injury-free seasons.

Nadal to pace himself more sensibly... and hopefully avoid further injury too.

Nalbandian to reproduce his Madrid & Paris form at the Slams.

Sampras to return and triple bagel Federer in the first round of Wimbledon. As he walks off court, acid rain comes doen and shreds Federer's jacket to bits. Getting carried away with the "doesn't have to be realistic" bit here... :runs:

Pebs - November 27, 2007 05:59 PM (GMT)

you cant wish harm to Feds jacket! Unless Hewitt is wearing it at the time...

dl04 - November 27, 2007 07:19 PM (GMT)
Nadal wins the Australian Open

Safin regains his confidence and challenges strongly at the Slams

Fed to not win all the slams( i want some variation in Slam winners)

Djokovic to meet Nadal in the Wimby final

Big Al - November 27, 2007 09:43 PM (GMT)
I would like the game at Wimbledon to be faster next year. Not so many slug-fests from the baseline, it should be more about artistry IMO.

Tenez - November 27, 2007 10:38 PM (GMT)
Good point Biggy! I just watched the Final for the ....3rd time and thought that the balls were so big, they simply don't cut through the air and very quickly get a shuttlecock effect! It really made it similar to the FO to some extend. The USO is much faster in comparison.

I want Gasquet to be in the mix in all semis :lmaao: :nope:

Federer to win the AO, FO and WIm.....The USO can go to Nalby then!

Myskina to win a GS again.

Could not agree more :ok: :ok: :ok:

Baseline boredom is ruining Wimbledon. Speed it up for God's sake! Make people play grass tennis on grass as intended!

It annoys me as the claycourt specialists have plenty of opportunity to bore us to death so please let real grass tennis fans have just two bloody weeks of watching decent tennis. If Nadal makes the final again i am tempted to shoot myself :kpow:

Wish : Nadal NOT to make the Wimby final! Mario Ancic or similar to make it, in fact bring back Sampras as he is still fit. :ok: Let's see some decent serving and volleying :ok:

Amazing to hear this, and I do agree that Wimbledon should be made faster, because 10 years ago everyone at SW19 wanted it to be slowed down because they were getting bored with all the serving winning the matches!

Serving and volleying does seem like a lost art at the moment and it would be nice to see it back where it belongs at SW19. Saying that I'd still like to see Nadal win it....but it would be nice to see him combat a serve and vollyer on his way in the final :ok:

Tenez - November 28, 2007 10:32 AM (GMT)
The wimbledon courts are great but the balls are too big now. They are slightly bigger than USO's. That is where the effort should be made to speed it up.

USA woman - November 30, 2007 05:05 PM (GMT)
for other players on the tour (not just Nadal and Federer) to get some publicity-besides them there's J. Blake, A. Roddick and....
I'd also like to bring back the players from the 80's & early to mid-90's men and women.
