Title: XFactor Week 5 Song Choices
Description: XFactor Week 5 Song Choices
Mo aka Mz O'Hara - November 15, 2007 02:04 PM (GMT)
Here they are....subject to change no doubt.
Alisha - "Young Hearts Run Free" (Candi Station)
Beverley - "I'm Every Woman" (Chaka Khan)
Hope - "Gimme Gimme Gimme" (ABBA)
Leon - "Relight My Fire" (Dan Hartman)
Niki -"Hot Stuff" (Donna Summer)
Rhydian - "Go West" (Village People) :o
Same Difference - "Feels Like I'm In Love" (Kelly Marie)
BIG-TODGER - November 15, 2007 08:46 PM (GMT)
My first thought is that i think Leon will struggle with "Relight My Fire". The problem for him is you have in your mind take that bouncing all over the place performing that one and Leon will just look incredibly self conscious in comparison. Vocally it doesn't give him any room to shine-ok he hasn't got a brilliant voice, but this will do nothing for him.
If Beverley can pull of 'i'm every woman', and i think she might, she has a winner on her hands.
I hope Nikki isn't going to do too much dancing.
Rhydian - "Go West" not sure about that, at first glance it doesn't seem a great choice, i wonder if he's gonna be ott again this week.
WimbledonAce - November 15, 2007 09:22 PM (GMT)
Well here's my thoughts on these songs :
Alisha - "Young Hearts Run Free" (Candi Station) - Think this could be pretty weak. Not the best choice for her.
Beverley - "I'm Every Woman" (Chaka Khan) - Good choice, should be able to belt this one out. Bring on the diva! Go Bev :ok:
Hope - "Gimme Gimme Gimme" (ABBA) - Actually looking forward to this one, can't beat a bit of Abba! Only snag, Abba aren't as easy to sing as people think, could be tuning issues
Leon - "Relight My Fire" (Dan Hartman) - Really worried with this one, not Leon's style at all, ouch!
Niki -"Hot Stuff" (Donna Summer) - Should be able to do a good performance with this one. Hope she doesn't try too hard with the acting.
Rhydian - "Go West" (Village People) - Hmm, no idea how this is going to go! I'm confident Rhy will pull it off
Same Difference - "Feels Like I'm In Love" (Kelly Marie) - Should be no probs with this one. My only concern is that they are singing it as brother and sister, wierd???? :o
Bottom 2 this week? Alisha and Leon, Alisha to go
Mo aka Mz O'Hara - November 16, 2007 10:19 AM (GMT)
:nope: Oh dear, I think there are some very poor odd song choices this week.
Am looking forward to Hope singing Abba and Beverley. Cant see Nikki pulling off Hot Stuff.... :o making me shudder just the thought of it, and doesn't help that I am not keen on the song. :(
Leons song is just plain wrong, and can not see it working at all.
Oh well, could be an interesting Sat evenings viewing.
Prob Alisha or Leon to go or please Dear God  Same Difference . Even if Bev and Nikki put in poor performances, can't see either of them being in the bottom 2 this time around.

I love Disco and there are soem great songs and great vocals. I therefore find this selction pretty weak! Candi Statton, Donna Summer and Chaka Khan are amazing singers - 3 of my faves and my Dona Summer greatest hits is never off! :D The Candi Statton song is great but wasted on Alisha and they could have picked better Donna Summer songs - what's up with On The Radio, or MacArthur Park? Much better than Hot Stuff. Or Last Dance as Brenda :D did!
I was lookign throguh my disco stuff and a problem with a lot fo it I guess si great voacls and a lot fo music and beat, liek Chic, Silver COnvention, so not perfect for X factor. But there is load sof stuff, mayeb they vocals are too good for our contestants? And where is Gloria Gaynor and Themal Houston? I think Bev already did Galoria - am I right? Shame as that song could have bene used this week - I'd liek to see Rhydian sing I Will Survive! :D They shoudl never have doen LAdy Marmalade before cos that is a disco classic.
I'd have loved to see someone sing Love to Love You Baby by Donna Summer, but they'd be too scared to do the orgasmic bits. :D Give ti to Leon  Doesn't seem very disco without Yvonee Elleman, Gloria, Earth Wind and Fire, Chic, Sister Sledge, teh Emotions, Sylvester, Tavares and all the others. I liek Van Mc Coy, Do the HUstle but I guess there isn't enough singing - they shoudl have given ti Hope then!
I better analyse the above and write my thoughtsbut first impression was not very disco.
Btw anyone like disco? Get the album Simply the Bet Disco (Warner 1997) - there's always a bum track on these things but this iithe best one I've found. 40 tracks with classics like Disco Inferno - Trammps, Boogie Wonderland and Let's Groove - Earth Wind and Fire, Funkytown - Lipps Inc, Lost in Music - Sister Sledge, Play that Finky Music - Wild Cherry, Boogie Ooogie Ooogie - Taste of Honey - real funky shake your booty disco :D There's Chaka, Gloria, KC, Real Thing, Rose Royce, Chic, Donna Summer, Tavares and my fave If I Can't have You by Yvonne Elleman plus other stuff. An Candi Statton of course. :) No Kelly Marie or Village People or Liquid Gold :D

OMG!!! D I S C O :D roflmao
Firstly, some of these song choices will be disastrous for some singers
Alisha: This song is big on personality and vocal power. Has neither unfortunately roflmao That raspy, nicotine-laced voice will only get her so far............
Beverley: Perfect song for her really. She has great energy that makes up somewhat for her slightly limited range. My only worry is that she'll start shouting again...........
Hope: The song is a bit mediocre for me anyway, and Hope will piss on the chips further i suspect  roflmao
Leon: A good song, but needs to put on a performance. I cant stand this stupid frantically nervous thing he does.
Niki: Another awful song for her, even though the song is great. I'm really tiring of this woman. She's been below-par for the past two weeks, her voice i think is overrated and she has ZERO star-quality. and as for personality, you'd get better conversation out of a cat..........
Rhydian: *cringe* I dont like this 'lets make Rhydian really wild and extroverted' thing that's Danni doing. After a while, it drags..............Still he's class, and he can pull off anything.
Same Difference: I love this song( love it at parties). I like Same Difference, so i hope they do well :ok:

SuperBRAT - November 16, 2007 05:51 PM (GMT)
Well here's my thoughts on these songs:
Alisha - "Young Hearts Run Free" (Candi Station) - Agree with WA - could be weak and waste of a great song. Not a bad choice for her, she could get away with it moreso than a big Donna Summer number but I think it will be flat. Candi has a great voice and she makes the song sparkle with that and her emotion. Alisha has the emotion of a cardboard cutout. Not sure what song I'd have given her, all the classics require better delivery and power than Alisha has - Forget Me Nots by Patrice Rushen? Mayeb Diana Ross - I'm Coming Out? I don't think she'd be great at any.
Beverley - "I'm Every Woman" (Chaka Khan) - not a bad choice, but I've never heard Bev belt it out like Chaka does. Let's hope she can. This song is great but not as big as some disco songs, and thinking of the audience's knowledge I'd have gone for something more anthemic - Don't Leave Me this Way by Thelma Houston or a Donna Summer number - Mac Arthur Park, On the Radio maybe. Never can Say Goodbye by Gloria Gaynor even? Shame She Didn't get Young Hearts.
Hope - "Gimme Gimme Gimme" (ABBA) - cop out, not really disco at all. As WA says Abba are hard to sing. They have a soprano and a mezze soprano I think. But I reckon HOPE will manage to get around that, but I just can't see their voices having the edge. I can see it being shouty and god knows how they will hold the notes. Now they are a group, there are lots of disco groups, they ought to have been able to carry off Sister Sledge or the Taste of Honey Song - if they were any good! Actually I'd have given them More MOre More by Andrea True Connection, or Spacer by Sheila B Devotion cos none of them could sing either! :lol:Or better still Do ther Latin Hustle cos there is no singing! Actually, that terrible Yes Sir I Can Boogie by Bacarra as they were dreadful singers! That woudl have worked. Sack Simon now!
Leon - "Relight My Fire" (Dan Hartman) - Well I could not have come up with a better disco song really, not that I can think of, Weekend maybe by whoever that was? It is a tricky genre for him. But I think people will remember the Take That version and expect a real party feel and some great dancing. I can't see that happening. And he'll have to expand on the vocals. I can see myself laughing at this. It might be OK. Woudl have bene hilarious if they'd given him Isaac Hayes Theme form Shaft or Barry White!
Niki -"Hot Stuff" (Donna Summer) - Why this song? Better Donna Summer numbers out there, or other choices that I put in for Bev. Bizarrely I can see her doing Kelly Marie! I would have given her Yvonne Elleman - If I Can't Have You. I'm sure she'll be good but it's so hard to pull this song off without looking ridiculous. Still it's Donna Summer's least challenging vocal so it will be fine I expect. Let's hope it doesn't turn out like tart's karaoke.
Rhydian - "Go West" (Village People) - Well it will suit his voice, I'd have liked to see him do something better though - Dancing Queen by Abba, even a Gloria Gaynor number, something really big. I'm sure he'll do a grand job as always, I look forward to it. Wonder what he'll be wearing though! :D
Same Difference - "Feels Like I'm In Love" (Kelly Marie) - Simon cleverly picked the right end of diso here, the tackier white disco. But I hate this song. I thought Dance Yourself Dizzy by Liquid Gold would work better for them, I see what WA means with bro and sis singing a love song. Actually they coudl have probabaly pulled off Abba, they are camp and good singers. I think they'll do really well, I'm just concerend about the very high pitched Kelly Marie sound though. They will do well though :D
Worst perfromance: gotta be Hope surely, althouigh they are being shamlessly hyped by the show. Leon unless he can pull out a surprise. And Alisha will be flat. Best will eb Rhyd wihtout a doubt.
Who will go? - tough cos the audience got it wrong last week, putting Beve there and saving Hope. I've a feeling it will be Hope adn Leon, and Leon will go.

Raspy nicotine laced voice :lol:That' me you're talking about so watch it :D
I see you like SD now, I knew you'd finalll realise they could sing. The singing is so dire this year isn't it, so they deserve to be there. I so wish the hadn't created those stupid groups of rejects as a gimmick, then we might have more decent acts left.

It's gotta be a fix though, they big them up even if they are crap or average. And do you ever see that show after called XtraFactor on ITV2?
