GS2 - November 8, 2007 06:07 PM (GMT)
Sharapova was serving at *5-6 and had 2 game points at 40-15 to take it into a tie break when Kuznetsova came back to take the set 7-5 on her first set point.
Good (and unexpected) performance from Kuzzy there.
Really even set - Kuzzy won 34 points - Maria 33.

Well anyone who tells you that needs to look at her record this year :crazy1: . She missed the Aussie Open yet still leads the rankings by a massive margin. I also believe she has a better win loss record this year than the "dominating" Roger Federer (although don't quote me on that unless someone can drag out the figures!)....
Justine has been the dominating player of 2007, of that there i no doubt.
dl04 - November 8, 2007 09:48 PM (GMT)
It was a good fightback from maria today, but Svetlana like daniela on Tuesday put in such a lethargic performance. She looked so assured in the first set too, hitting her forehand with great control and purpose and showing her superlative skills that has made her the number 2 player in the world. The thing with Svetlana is, she goes into panic mode when opponents gain some momentum. When sharapova broke for 3-2 in the second, svetlana's confidence looked drained tbh. Forehand lost all the previous weight of shot and she resorted to pedalling the ball back from the baseline and feeding Maria loopy balls off the backhand side.
A good fightback from maria though. Cut down the errors( for a change roflmao ), and just picked up her game when it was required to do so. much more solid on serve as well than Kuznetsova, which is ironic considering the Maria service woes of '07. I still think the maria game is so rusty though, and someone with a bit more mental metal could exploit the defficiencies in her game eg, the woeful defense. I think we'll see a much more formidable task for maria in the shape of ivanovic :)
Justine- wow! :o Such a superlative performance in all departments tonight. Not that i expected Marion to trouble justine, but i didnt expect the total mauling we got. Ripping winners everywhere, and the serve is really starting to click now with a better 1st serve percentage. It's going to be a colossal task to beat this woman this week.
mightyjeditribble - November 8, 2007 09:54 PM (GMT)
Wow. Double bagel. That's just cruel from Justine.
Do you think she was bothered by that Wimby loss then? :P

jelena lost the first set ... then bagelled anna and broke straight away in the third
... then got broken straight back
I hope she wins this one.
mightyjeditribble - November 8, 2007 10:08 PM (GMT)
2007 win-loss record:
justine 58-4
fed 64 - 8
 to both of them is due, I think ... but particularly to justine on this occasion! I strongly suspect that will be 60-4 before the year is over ...
mightyjeditribble - November 8, 2007 10:17 PM (GMT)
Jelena 4-1 down. :o
Now 4-2 ... come on ... it is only one break ...
mightyjeditribble - November 8, 2007 10:19 PM (GMT)
Now it's 5-2. I guess this is as good as over - and Jelena is out. :(
dl04 - November 8, 2007 10:28 PM (GMT)
Well done Anna! Always liked her game.
Comiserations to Jelena, just not enough in the tank :(

I don't know why dl, she is no more exciting to watch than Tati or Kim...
Wise_Analyst - November 9, 2007 12:53 AM (GMT)
After being delighted that Ana won her first two games, I'd now be quite disappointed if she didn't beat Sharapova to win the group and then Chakvetadze in the SF. I think she's the only one left with any remote chance of troubling Henin too.
Now that Jankovic and Kuznetsova are out, Ana winning this tournament would see her becoming the season ending number 2. I'm not sure she deserves it, but then again I certainly don't think Kuznetsova does... the most likely result is a runners up place seeing her overtake Jankovic to gain third spot.
Looking forward to the Ana vs Maria match tomorrow though. B)2 If Ana plays well, I can't see Sharapova troubling her, but one thing's for sure, if she lets up like she did against Kuzzy and Hantuchova, Maria will punish her.

T01 - November 9, 2007 09:55 AM (GMT)
Well, no one has said it so I will. Credits to Sharapova. Since the loss in the US open, she hasn't played, but comes to YEC and beats the 2 form players. For the record: I am not her fan!! Hope that Ana will win the next match to have a chance to reach the finals.
Henin: it is a bit over the top, she could have given Bartoli atleast a breadstick. lol.

What was funny was that in an interview prior to the match (I think it was for a Belgian paper) Justine said flippantly that I am going to double-bagel Marion as a revenge for Wimbledon and laughed! :yikes:
Obviously she said it as a joke as Marion is her friend OFF-COURT, obviously on-court no one is your friend.
I wish she did that with everyone she played roflmao

No one i know disputes Henins dominance. Unfortunatley for me, i cant stand it. Petes, and now Feds dominance of the ATP almost ruined it for (thank God for Agassi and Nadal). And i switched off F1 altogether during the Schuey years. Maybe im in the minority here but i love competition, and knowing who is going to win a contest before it even starts bores me silly

I agree with that 200%! It's got to the stage where the players i hate most are Henin and Federer! I know they're awesome, but there just a bit boring, and we know they will win! :(

At least with Fed, you can rely on Nadal to give him a game during the spring, and Nalbandian whips his butt when he is fit
