From the bbc...

The International Tennis Federation is investigating claims that Germany's Tommy Haas was poisoned during the Davis Cup semi-final defeat to Russia.
Doubles partner Alexander Waske told German tabloid Bild: "I was told in Moscow that Haas had been poisoned."

Haas played on the opening day of the tie on 21 September but lost in straight sets to Igor Andreev.

He was then unable to play the reverse singles clash with Mikhail Youzhny because of stomach pains.

His replacement Philipp Petzschner went down in four sets and Russia then clinched the decider with Andreev beating Philipp Kohlschreiber.

An ITF spokesman confirmed the organisation is investigating the matter and Haas is expected to undergo a full medical in the United States on Thursday.

Haas Moscow poison claims probed

The International Tennis Federation is investigating claims Germany's Tommy Haas was poisoned during the Davis Cup semi-final defeat by Russia.

Team-mate Alexander Waske told German tabloid Bild an unnamed Russian suggested to him Haas had been poisoned in Moscow.

"We take this very seriously," said an ITF spokeswoman.

Haas, who plans to undergo hair and blood tests, lost the opening singles match and was unable to play again.

Germany went into the final day with a 2-1 lead but Haas' replacement Philipp Petzschner lost in four sets before Russia clinched the decider with Andreev beating Philipp Kohlschreiber.

Waske said the poisoning claim was made by a Russian who manages various athletes.

"He said, as an aside, that it was bitter that Tommy Haas was poisoned," said Waske.

Former world number two Haas told Bild: "I was shocked when Alex told me this but when I thought back about how bad I felt at the time I can imagine it's possible."

The 29-year-old has arranged to undergo tests on Friday in New York.

He added: "I want to find out if any poison can be traced or confirmed."

Wouldn't surprise me at all.

A few years against Germany, in a bid to make the court as slow as possible, they watered the clay in Moscow so heavily the ITF fined them $25,000 for making the court "unplayable".

If I was a visiting team I'd want to take my own food anyway :D

:lmaao:

well, the Russians seem to be causing trouble in tennis at the moment - poisoning, gambling, match-fixing (allegedly ;) )

and deciding to go and climb mountains instead of playing tennis :banghead:

Haas, who is now based in the US, added in Bild: "Now I want to know whether it was a poisoning or if someone can prove it. I sat - or better laid - six hours on the toilet. I have never felt so miserable in my life - I was really scared."
