Title: If MoMo and JHH make the final
Description: fascinating issues involved

SuperBRAT - July 5, 2006 10:09 AM (GMT)
I think the best final we can hope for tennis wise is JHH v MoMo. But the tennis aside, this contest will have several fascinating elements being a huge psychological test for both women, who will feel they have something to prove for different reasons.

MoMo will be anxious to convince that she can win a slam final without her opponent retiring as JHH did in the AO final this year. Of course, she won that fair and square, but she will be anxious to silence not only her critics, but any doubts about that win that she may hold personally. For her own satisfaction, she will want to serve this out. She is fit and injury free and will be desperate to capitalise on the advantages this brings her at this stage in her career. Also, the absence of players like Davenport and the Williamses she will see a great opportunity here and beign so suited to grass, she will know that it is the slam she should be going all out to win.

JHH will be anxious to make a match of it and silence her critics who slated her for pulling out of the AO final, saying it was because she was being thrashed by MoMo rather than genuine illness. She will want to pull out the stops and give her all. She will also want to win to prove that not onyl can she go the distance, but also beat MoMo as the Ao left it unclear as to whether she coudl actually have beaten her that day even if well. She is probabaly the greatest all court female player of the time, and will want to prove her ability on grass. She certainyl is someone who woudl have won at SW19 were it not for the greater power of other players. She again like MoMo is havign a healthy time of it and has nto bene tire dafter the FO as expcted, so she will want to capaitalise.

What's great is that both women met in the AO and will want to prove something over the other. There may be an element of the grudge match involved here, adn both will be hungry havign never won this title before, If this were the final I expect it to be highly competitive. I don't know who I would favour, as MoMo os going to want to make the most of her fisrs Wimbledon final, as she did at the AO, so she will not be willing to just accpet runner up. JHH is a tough battler and mentally stronger, but in a final who knows?

Any thoughts? Or woudl you liek to see someone else in the final?

Id like Momo to win after the disappointing finish to the AO , but am a fan of JHH and Sharapova as well. So I dont really know who I want to win !

Quite frankly, I wasnt a Mauresm-Clijsters Final, as I like them better than JHH and Sharapova. And JHH greatest all-time player? Well, uh no.

Margaret Court, Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf, Chris Evert, and Serena Williams are the greatest all-court players of all time. Monica is almost, but her grass court credentials aren't good enough to be. Martina Hingis is almost there too.

Sharapova vs. Justine would be more interesting I feel - A genuine grass court power-hitter against arguably the most gifted player on the tour.

That would be so hard to call.

If it was a Momo-JHH final I think JHH would walk it

As long as it's Henin vs someone I don't really mind - both possibilities would be intriguing match ups.

Can't face Clijsters getting to the final.

I think its almost inevitable that justine will reach the final, i cannot see Kim winning at all unless she plays to her highest standard possible, which lets face it against a woman who just knows how to play Kim, sheknows how to get into Kim's head and i think that will be the deciding factor on Thurdsay, and of course justine's more superior will to win.

I think mauresmo/Sharapova is 50:50. I can see mauresmo winning that though, i cant really see how Sharapova's one-pace game can hurt the endless variety of mauresmo.

I will be very surprised if Justine doesn't overcome Kim. She'll look to break down Kim's forehand, which she is certainly capable of doing with her wide variety of shots. If Justine maintains a reasonable first serve percentage, I think she may get a straight sets win. Hopefully Kim will fight though, we don't want a repeat of the awful RG semi.

Mauresmo v Sharapova is extremely difficult to predict. Amelie will be looking to prove that she is indeed a big match player, but if the match gets close, I'd still favour Maria. However, if Amelie plays aggressively and keeps herself together, she has a wonderful opportunity to reach the final.

Personally, I'd like to see a Maria-Justine match, taking into account the quality of their meetings this year and the fact the pair are possibly the best fighters in the game (RG aside ;) ).

Queen Justine - July 6, 2006 11:42 PM (GMT)
Can I just remind everyone (I'm sure GS2 knows this and so does LDF) that if Justine wins Wimbledon, that will mean she has won ALL of the Grand Slams and will be amongst 10 of the female tennis players to do it! So this final is very, very important to JHH. If she wins, she will have a career slam (winning all 4 GS's). This will mean that not only will she be shitting herself, but she will be highly motivated and hopefully focused. BUT, Amelie will too, so this match is gonna be HOT!!

Me ... I will be watching from behind the sofa with a whisky in my hand (seeing that I don't drink, I will need something to calm my nerves) roflmao

PLEASE DO IT JUSTINE, PLEASE
