chokapova - November 3, 2007 08:11 PM (GMT)
The YEC is almost upon us, who will win the season finale?

BIG-TODGER - November 3, 2007 08:29 PM (GMT)
I'ld go for the best player of the year Justine Henin.

The odds are stacked in Henin's favour. She is the best out there at the moment. So she gets my vote.
I am praying Maria can somehow win this.....  But I think I'll have to pray to one hell of an almighty god in order for that to happen....

I know i'm putting my neck on the line with Justine 'the outsider' Henin, but sometimes you gotta follow your instincts, and throw away the form book.
Incidentally my all time Friends fav on your avatar-and boy could she play guitar!
vivahate - November 4, 2007 03:09 PM (GMT)
Henin.
if Hingis was playing, she'd blow them off the court :(
trisco - November 4, 2007 05:25 PM (GMT)
Justine.. simply a class above the rest it seems at the mo.
Who I actually WANT to win - Maria... seeing as Martina isn't there :(

"Blow" would be the wrong word, coming from a Hingis fan :P

surprise, surprise Henin and Serena on the same side of the draw, i find it astonishing this keeps happening surely they can devise a system where the best two can meet in the final.
The draws are based on rankings, which as the world and his wife know do not accurately reflect the women's game, why the f**k can't they get a better more reflective system of who are the best players rather than the shambles that the rankings system actually is.

Now I may be wildly wrong here as my brain sometimes fails me when I really need it, but didn't the ATP or WTA once used to rank based upon best 'x' amount of tournaments per year, where x equals a nominal amount of tournaments...
I think that would go quite far to sorting out the WTA Rankings and would stop people playing a zillion tournaments and getting a ranking that is possibly not deserving of their complete ability...??
BIG-TODGER - November 4, 2007 11:04 PM (GMT)
that makes sense Gav, minimising the amount of tournaments that are counted, i don't know whether they've had that system at any time before.
There was a time when the rankings system reflected more accurately who the best players were, and in more or less the correct order, but it's been a few years since that was the case.
The current system is anachronistic, but the WTA like the ATP don't seem overflowing with big brained humans.

This is going to be an interesting YEC.However it would have been better if both Williams girls are there.Hopefully Davenport and both Williams make it next year.
I havent voted I wanna see after the first few rounds then I will make a pic.
:ok:
T01 - November 5, 2007 10:02 AM (GMT)
I think for WTA race, they don't limit the number of tournaments that they can play, hence Hantuchova is there I guess. But for the ranking they have 4 GS and Miami as requires plus another 12 best results. So Even if one playes too many they can't overtake everyone.
I guess Ana Ivanovic will feature in the finals along with Henin (Brain's decision) or Serena (Heart wants her).
Interesting to note the h2h advantage that Ivanovic holds for most people in the draw here.

I know, amazing isn't it? :yikes:
Mind you, if she plays the way she played against Agassi in that Exhibition in Germany, she'll win it hands down!
lalitha - November 5, 2007 02:56 PM (GMT)
Henin..no doubt...she's the best out there..she's got a better record than even Federer this year!
Federer-Williams - November 5, 2007 05:22 PM (GMT)
serena henin will meet in the final if they both go through from yellow group so despite being drawn together again it also allows for a potential final.

Yeh Choka, she was a replacement for Steffi because Steffi was injured and would only play one set in the mixed and then Ana would come on and replace her, but Steffi was enjoying it so much and obviously adrenalin took away the pain of the injury and she continued playing and Ana just sat opposite me and watched the match like all of us! Ana then played a set with Agassi and she was awesome. Agassi couldn't stop praising her and the crowd could not stop applauding her! She really took it to Agassi and the score was 7-6 (Agassi). She hits much better, flatter and harder than the Chea... Maria. She truly was awesome that day.
Imagine my surprise when I turned up there and not only saw my two idols, Justine & Steffi, but my 3rd little find ... Ana!!!!!!! I was elated. :yahoo:
