Title: Québec City draw

Manzikert - October 29, 2007 01:41 AM (GMT)
So obviously this is more of an afterthought than even the rest of the late season, being a Tier III on top of being the final regular-season event while everyone else eagerly anticipates the YEC.

There are a few names worth watching in the draw, however.

Top seed Vaidisova is coming off consecutive semifinal showings and will look to carry that form into Canada, and both she and second seed Zvonareva will be hoping to end injury-plagued seasons on a high note. However there is a wildcard by the name of Davenport in the mix who is more than capable of snatching the title out from under either woman, with three Top 15 victories out of nine matches played since her comeback.

It should really come down to these three. Vakulenko is a potential spoiler, as is the up-and-coming Cornet and home favourite Wozniak. I don't see it however.

Projected QFs:

Vaidisova v Cornet
Vakulenko v Govortsova
-
Davenport v Tu
Zvonareva v Poutchkova

I'm just surprised Venus isn't playing this one... :P

Seriously though, hope Lindsay can take the title! :)

Dubois is a pretty good player, as is Aleks Wozniak, though Davenport and Vakulenko are both more than a match for them.

Kerber is apparrently quite a good player when on form, she hits a very hard flat ball that can cause problems, so Linds is excused for not grabbing a bagel imo :)

vivahate - October 31, 2007 08:02 PM (GMT)
wozniak is the best of that lot. would like to see her improve and stay consistantly in the top 100.

Miss Suzi - November 1, 2007 09:20 AM (GMT)
Canadian tennis ....expected more... but I agree Wozniak has the edge at the moment...she has proven herself to be the relatively better player....
Hopefully...there is a general improvement all round with Dancevic and all coming up...

Vera is a lot tougher than she used to be. She has beaten some top players over the last 2 years (Serena in Cincy last year, she hit 0 unforced errors, Sharapova this year...) who she would have previously fallen to pieces against. Linds will probably life the trophy, but I expect her to be challenged by Vera :)

Underestimate Vera at your peril... :ok:

well anyway Lindsay wraps up the title with a straight sets win, 6-4 6-1 against Vakulenko...
