Oh boy yes Choka - got back about 3 hours ago!

Words just can't explain it   x 500,000,000

Andre is still amazing and Steffi can still play really well. It was wso great seeing that forehand and the way she hits it. Oh boy, I'll never ever forget that day for as long as I live. AND Justine remembered me from Eastbourne !!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the Justine fans from WTA World e-mailed me and asked for the report. I'll post what I wrote to him.

"Right, so here's the story! I got there early, I was one of the first at the door, 2 hours early to be precise!!! Well the flight and journey to Mannheim was quicker than anticipated and there really isn't much to do in Mannheim, so I thought I'd go straight to the venue. Anyway, they eventually let us in and most people went to the bar, but I went to the court and they were on there practicing!! I had 2nd row seats but it was about 20 yards away from the court and there was security guards all around.

I had a card and a little gift that I wanted to give to Justine and I asked the security guard if I can just go and give the gift to her. Of course the security guard said "no"! I said "but she knows me, go and ask her" LOL!! (cheeky or what?). The guard went over to Justine and obviously asked her and with that Justine looked and nodded "yes" and the security guard told me to come over - I nearly fainted. Anyway, I said to Justine in a shakey voice and sweating "this is for you, I know you won't remember me but ... And she interrupted me and said "I remember you" I said "you do, where from? (I was testing her to see if she was telling the truth or not LOL)" and she said "The Grand Hotel, Eastbourne". Well that obviously confirmed it and I was just lost for words because she remembered .... ME!!! I was just so elated that my idol remembered who I was from our last meeting that I just flung my arms around her and said "oh my god I just love you so much" (embarrassing or what?) to which she hugged me back and Steffi who was standing next to her started laughing and we all started laughing. I then said "I'm not normally like this, it's just what you do to me" to which Steffi said "I can understand that" to which I then flung my arms around Steffi and said "you're fabulous too", so then Justine started laughing. I think they could tell I was highly excited.

Anyway, I calmed down and said to Justine "good luck in Madrid" and she said "thank you and thank you for the gift".

Anyway, after I calmed down and went back to my seat, some German people next to me said "Is Justine a friend of yours, it seemed you knew each other". To which I said "yes". May god forgive me, but who cares? It felt good saying she was a friend of mine. LOL!!!

So the match was great, Steffi can still play believe it or not. She was just going to play one set (Ana Ivanovic was going to play the second set), but Steffi seemed to enjoy it so much that she played the second set also. At one stage there was a rally between Steffi and Justine and Goran and Andre just stood to the side and let the girls rally with each other. Well it was about a 20-25 shot rally and we were all cheering because that is what we wanted to see. They were really going for it and it was brilliant! Steffi definitely could keep up and it was Justine that netted the ball eventually and when she netted the ball she threw her racquet up in the air and Steffi laughed and so did Justine. The crowd just stood up and applauded them and so did Andre and Goran.

At the beginning of the match all Justine kept doing was lobbing Andre and Steffi, you could see she was playing about and doing her exhibition stuff. In one of the games there was a long rally and Justine hit a drop shot, to which Andre replied with a drop shot and Justine did one of her amazing cross-court drop shots that was so near the net there was no way that Andre or Steffi could have got it back!! Andre, Steffi and Goran applauded Justine, along with the crowd. Some of the shots Justine hit were truly amazing and all you could hear was Andre going "Too Good, what a shot" etc, etc!! The crowd were definitely amazed by her play, she really does do us proud. She hit a return down the line from one of Andre's serves and the crowd just stood up and clapped - I shouted out "she's not no. 1 in the world for nothing"!!

She had quite a bit of support there - obviously loads were shouting out for Steffi, but quite a few were shouting out "Allez Justine (including me) and "We love you Justine" (including me), but there were a lot of Justine supporters there. She was mobbed when it came to autographs - to which I got yet another one - that's 3 so far!! Unfortunately I didn't get a photo with her this time, but I took a few and you'll see them below.

She looked so happy out there, she really did. I've never seen her smile so much and her and Goran had a laugh, especially when she served a double-fault and he went up to the net and lowered it!!! She couldn't stop laughing for about a minute - she tried to serve but had to stop because she kept laughing and so did all of us!! It was great to see her like this. No intensity whatsoever, but she can still play well.

She was going to play a second match against Ana Ivanovic, but she announced that she was concerned that her shoulder was sore and she wanted to be 100% for the YEC, so Andre played a match with Ana I! That was fantastic also. Boy can Ana hit that ball - she is getting better and better and she managed to keep up with Andre - even he was amazed at some of the rally's that she kept up with and believe me, Andre was hitting it real hard."

ARE YOU STILL AWAKE? :giggle:

As I said, it really was fabulous and a day that I will never ever forget!

What a fantastic clip. Thanks for posting this, QJ!!!

Steffi is indeed wonderful. A great and very gracious champion..

Particuarly enjoyed the exchange of volleys in the doubles match.. and good to see Goran and Andre (the SW19 men's finalists of 1992, no less!) having such a good time too! :)

You could just say that's out of order...or try another player to hate once in a while...

I hope my English made sense to you guys as well.

I think it was fair enough to bring it up Fed-Williams.
Liam called Steffi a sour-faced cow which is rather ironic coming from someone who has a Serena picture on their profile.
Arguably the biggest sour-puss of 2007 if not the past decade! :ok:

An excellent write up QJ!
Sounds really good...really u've had a wonderful time. She remembered u? Well she does know how to make her fans happy...
Steffi is truly a remarkable player and to me personally Venus does not match up to what Steffi has achieved throughout her career.A player of her status is just incomparable.
Justine receiving such positive comments from her idol reveal Justine's greatness as well.

I know I have praised Justine but you have to admit, she is one lucky woman.

What competition does she really have?

Serena is seriously out of form. Venus and her anorexia problemos, Amelie is just in limbo, Davenports water just broke, the rest are not worth mentioning.

You look at the Serena domination, anyone who was anyone in this era of womens tennis was there and in form. Those days, Justine was like a Kutnetsova, she had talent but the others were just too good. Justine has not improved much from then, she was alway been this athletic and smart but, the others have simply declined.

I know a lot of you wont like this but you all know I have hit the nail right on the head.

The others might not be in the form of their lives but in my opinion Justine HAS improved. Have you not see her groudstrokes, they are much more powerful than they used to be... She was equal in power to Serena in their matches this year and Venus at the US Open. Also her serve is much better too....

Can I smell an agenda.

It's obvious to everyone that Henin has improved from 2002-3 when Serena was dominating.

And the level of competition was higher? Davenport was out for much of 2002 as was Hingis. Clijsters was also injured for quite a bit of 2002 and only got it together after the US Open.

There was Capriati but even in her 2001 peak she didn't win many titles and in 2002-3 her fitness and results were starting to fall off. Mauresmo was there but she like Justine got better from 2003 onwards - and their games did improve - it wasn't a simple case of others falling away. Justine added more power and both of them became more aggressive - looking to move forward and take their opportunities.

I'm not taking anything away from Serena - she was awesome and the major factor in exactly why players like Justine & Amelie went away and improved their games but to say Justine didn't improve is just absurd.

However, its been a pleasure watching her. The chairman still doesn't like her but he believes she is great for todays tennis and she is reaping the benefits of working hard.
Congratulations Justine, I will be back with younger Serena 2002 clones next year.
