Vaidisova through 4-6 6-3 7-6 over Penetta.

Shame for Flavia, played such a great first set and looked the better player for the majority of the match i have to say. However, just that little bit of edgy tightness from the Italian gave Nicole chances to get back into the match. Serving much better towards the end of the match :)

chokapova - October 24, 2007 06:15 PM (GMT)
Dl will be pleased, Tati is out in the first round due to another injury... :yikes:

Federer-Williams - October 24, 2007 07:16 PM (GMT)
it is good news and bad news.

good news cos dl doesn't like Tati

bad news cos Tati was main chances of beating Hantuchova who can still displace Venus from YEC is freak of nature happens.

She has to meet Bartoli in final of Linz and Quebec although likelihood of this happening is like 0 so venus is safe.

Well hopefully The Cheat will pull out of Madrid and then Dani can play...

Although she will probably choke and lose all her matches...

vivahate - October 24, 2007 08:10 PM (GMT)
i don't expect the che...i mean sharapova to show up at the YEC. dani, you better have your bags packed and ready :D :D

dl04 - October 24, 2007 08:24 PM (GMT)
I cant be too hard on Tati if she is injured, although it never stopped me with Kim roflmao

I like Danilidou's game, despite the fact she cant stay fit for more than 30 minutes

Miss Suzi - October 24, 2007 08:41 PM (GMT)
It will be interesting to see what Dani can really do in terms of catching up ... but tbh she does have a good chance...

she does have a good chance but I think The Cheat will pull out even if she qualifies, well knowing her she will turn up and play anyway to get the publicity...

only to pull out when she gets double-bagelled by Justine, Serena or Venus... :P

vivahate - October 25, 2007 10:58 PM (GMT)
go Dani

Miss Suzi - October 26, 2007 03:22 PM (GMT)
Wow patty schynder crushed anna chakvetadze 6-1, 6-0.... I wonder if Anna was a no show again...

Dani is safely through.... 6-4 1-6 6-3 against Bondarenko..

T01 - October 26, 2007 04:05 PM (GMT)
Yea Dani is working hard. If she wins the title here, then she will have same points as Maria. Who will thenbe eligible to go to Madrid? Possibly Maria as she earned those points in less tournaments??

dl04 - October 26, 2007 06:03 PM (GMT)
Anna was quite simply appaling today. Probably the worst effort i've ever seen anyone put into a match. Was just so blase and nonchalant about the whole thing. All Patty had to do was hit the ball in court while Anna did the opposite.

The match was over in 38 minutes   It was so poor for a top seed in a tier 2.

It was disgusting actually for the no. 1 seed at this tournament.

I wonder if she's any relation to Davydenko? :hmm:

At least Davy won a set and broke the hour mark, Anna was just poor beyond belief

I'm usualy a fan of hers too.......

Manzikert - October 26, 2007 10:16 PM (GMT)
As things stood I would have been pleased to see Chakvetadze at the YEC, because I like her tennis and she would introducesome variety into the mix. Now I'm just concerned that she's going to crash and burn in an embarrassing display. She's gone completely off the rails since, oh, the first set of her USO semifinal. I thought with her convincing dismissal of the in-form Schiavone just the other day that the Russian was showing signs of getting back on track, but losing in less than 40 minutes to Schnyder (whose bagelling days are well behind her in the early part of the season) is a real head-scratcher. Please make an effort in Madrid for our sake if not yours, Anna.

In other news, Vaidisova gritted out a tough 6-3, 7-6(7) win after letting slip several leads in the second set against Safina. (The break point conversion stats are eyebrow-raising: 4/12 for Vaidosova, 3/13 for Safina.) She's done well this week since surviving against Pennetta, a tough encounter like their compelling USO match (with the Italian having recovered even more form since then). I'd like to see her come away with the title, I think. For someone who captured her first when she was something like fifteen years old, she hasn't done much in the way of titles lately, and nothing above the Tier III level so far. She's had a tough season with the injuries and illness so I'd like to see her finish strong. Unfortunately she faces Hantuchova next in what I'd have preferred to see as the final rather than semi.

I have to do the maths but is Hantuchova really threatening to oust Sharapova from the YEC with a title run here? What a fall from grace for last year's semifinalist if it pans out (not to mention further loss of points).

I've been saying for weeks that Chokevetadze is a complete joke and how the hell she ended up in the top 5 is beyond me... :bs:

To be fair, she had a great American hardcourt season and has been so consistently good this year, but lately it's just so dire  She had no inclination at all to try yesterday, it was so blatantly obvious.......

Anyhow, Big Bad Marion loes to Patty in the semis 7-6 6-3 :( Her YEC hopes are over, but she's had a great second half to her season :ok:

Nicole up 4-3 in the third(on serve) against hantuchova. Daniela has to win this to get a shot at the YEC

Awesome win for Dani, her improvement this year has been great for the tour :D She's at the level she was in 2002 and it's great to see.....

Back at the YEC's for the second time, and pushing Maria out in the process.......... i have a sneaky feeling someone's chuffed to bits roflmao

So the YEC is set

Justine
Svetlana
Jelena
Ana
Serena

To be fair, looking objectively Venus withdrew from the YEC's in 2000/01, her years of domination so it's not the most suprising news ever.

Such a shame she's out though, would've been a big conttender for that title :( :(
