vivahate - October 24, 2007 07:42 PM (GMT)
well they've exchanged sets and are now on serve in the 3rd :)
Tenez - October 24, 2007 07:56 PM (GMT)
3-1 Santoro in the 3rd.
Good be a great opportunity for Gasquet to get some easy points for Shanghai...on the other hand his tight match v C Rochus today does not presage very well.
vivahate - October 24, 2007 08:08 PM (GMT)
Fabrice is serving for 5-3 :)

Singles - Quarterfinals
M Gicquel (FRA) d D Hartfield (ARG) 75 63
J Tsonga (FRA) d O Rochus (BEL) 63 62
[Q] A Falla (COL) d [5] I Ljubicic (CRO) 75 67(3) 75
S Grosjean (FRA) d J Benneteau (FRA) 76(6) 62 76(4)
So going into the QF, Ljubicic was the only seed left in the draw, with a big chance to pick up points for Shanghai ... and he promptly loses to Falla.
The semis are
Grosjean - Tsonga
Gicquel - Falla

Must admit - despite not particulalry being Ljubicics greatest admirer - that I was surprised to see him gone.
Maybe I shouldn't have been

Quick big up to the Colombian Alejandro Falla for making it to his first ATP semi-final... and beating that clown Ljubicic. :chesire:
Unusually for a South American, he's most at home on the fast courts, which gives him a reasonable chance of making the final - his opponent Gicquel reached the final last year and will be favourite though. Vamos Alejo!
As for the other semi, Tsonga and Grosjean are seeing a lot of eachother this weekend. After they face off today, they're coming straight back on court - together, for a doubles match against fellow Frenchmen Clement and Mahut. They've also been drawn to meet in the first round of Paris. I give Tsonga the edge, and he'll be the favourite for the final too, should he make it.

like I was saying... not that popular!

:moody:
Falla loses in a third set tie-break having been 6-4 up in it, reportedly missing an easy smash on that point too. Like I said, Gicquel was favourite and it was a fantastic week for the Colombian, but instead of reflecting on progress, he'll be rueing a massive choke. Colombian tennis needs all the promotion it can get too. :(
What makes it even more annoying is that Grosjean dismissed his younger compatriot Tsonga with ease, 6-1, 6-2. Admittedly, that implies that Grosjean is in pretty ominous form, but I'd have said he was a more beatable opponent for the winner of the other semi. But it will be Gicquel who gets the chance to win his first ATP title tomorrow in another all-French affair; he lost in last year's final to Gasquet, so it'd be nice to see him go one better this year.

 a little bit surprised at the Tsonga v Grosjean match, thought it would be closer than that - that scoreline looks very one sided.
