Best song of the century is hard fo rme, cos all ym faves are from the last century! roflmao
Can someone remind me what music we've had in the last 7 years? roflmao
Btw I like that Kaiser Chiefs one, although derivative of punk it's very good. And again very derivative, but I like take Me Out by Franz Ferdinand.

Okay,
Looking at all the bands we know and love, what song - if they had recorded no other, would put them into Rock 'N Roll Heaven. A lot of our fav bands had some great songs but many would be there because of a body of work not because of one song.
Drop those thoughts aside and think of the ONE song that either
1) would have put them there if they were a 1-hit wonder or
2) the ONE song that, without it, they might not get into Rock & Roll heaven.
Limiting my initial list to just 3 (and these aren't my fav bands, btw), here they are:
Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen (never the big fan of his and didn't really like Born in the USA, but this song is one of the best songs to ever come out of the 1970's)
More Than A Feeling - Boston. Great band, great 1st album.... but this song is it. I could listen to it for hours at time and never get board with the melody - even the simple 4-chord structure. Btw, I couldn't find a good band vido so I chose this for Maria fans.
Gimme Shelter - Rolling Stones. This is a bit of a tougher one because there are a few that might put them there, but this one is definately does. They aren't a band that has continued with me past my teen years outside of this 1 song.

I must confess I LOVE that song by Boston. I play ti a lot n the evenings. I must admt to feeling a littel uneasy abotu likign such a blatantly middle fo the road simple and mayeb corny rock sing, or AOR whatever it is. Is not my usual thing, but this song seems to appeal to a lot of people with varied music tastes. :)
Was never a fan of Springsteen. When I was a kdi him wavign his stars and stripes everywhere seemed quite objectionable and pointless. We had bands ove rhere at that time who really had a lot to say politically and he did nto grab the attention of switched on and disgrnuntled British youth. I think as with Boston, I had to age 15 years to start appreciating such music. Born to Run is quite energetic and great if you've had a few as is Dancing in the Dark.
Not a huge Stones fan really, but my track form them woudl be Sympathy for the Devil. :)

Have to agree with you on these, SB. I never got into Springsteen's "faux patriotism" of Born in the USA (although I own the album - loved Dancing in the Dark) and was probably one of the only people not shocked when he came out in support of Al Gore - I mean, the guy's from the New Jersey shore... he's a die-hard union Democrat (or else he'd have been killed).
The Stones I loved as a teen but they didn't grow with me, unlike bands like Zepplin.
What bands would you put in R & R Heaven for what songs?

I know what you mean. it's a tough call for me to come up with a list but I will think on it. :)

ooo I love Born to Run, one of my fave all time songs. Not a big Brucie fan either but what a great invigorating song. The Video is at an outdoor concert (may even be Wembley) and is soooo full of energy, you cant fail to want to get up and move. I swear the whole stadium and pitch are probably on their feet. Great saxophonist too. :B&B: :chesire: :chesire: :B&B: Happened to catch some of the video only last weekend whilst shopping at Bluewater.

Blimey DI04,
i think there would be one too many ego's on stage-i suspect there would be a fair bit of sulking as one member took the mike-especially with the men-and who would write the songs? would you envisage a collaboration? is suspect a split would ensue rather fast-but it would be some spectacle.
Great choices on voices though, apart from Cohen.
