Title: Mixed doubles results not included in rankings.
Description: Is it fair?

This may have been discussed before, but I only realized about a month or two ago that the mixed doubles results in grand slams do not seem to enter into the doubles rankings.

I guess I knew this all along, considering that I have seen the way the rankings are calculated, but it still seems a bit funny. Do you think it's fair that someone who does well in the GS mixed tournament receives no ranking points?

Or is mixed doubles essentially its own competition, and too different from men's doubles to be included in the regular rankings?

I guess you can argue both ways, but I would probably tend towards preferring the mixed results being included in the rankings in some way.

What do you think?

I do think it's a bit strange  I mean, players get ranking points for both men's and women's doubles in the slams, so why not for mixed? Obviously they couldn't count the points towards the race, but it seems fair to acknowledge a players' success in mixed.

However, I get the feeling that mixed doubles is almost seen as a "novelty" event for the slams, rather than as a "proper" event. After all, there's a certain amount of - not luck, but chance I guess - involved in it; making sure you find a decent partner, and whether or not that partner is an experienced doubles player and you can get on well enough with them. For anyone who does the predictions contests, they'll know that it's notoriously unpredictable (just look at Murray and Jankovic at Wimbledon this year.)

Personally, I do think they should get some credit for it, but I guess I can see why they don't bother

I agree, players should get points towards their individual ranking rather than a system based on pairings!
