Title: Kim through to the final

LDF - May 6, 2006 01:11 PM (GMT)
She beat Elena 7-5 6-4, recovering from 3-0 (double break) down in the first set.

Hi LDF :D

Dementieva really didnt really impress me today. She started off so well to get the double break, but then just completely threw her momentum away. I think Clijsters played well, but not that well as i thought geberally when Dementieva was taking the ball early, she was dictating the play and flow of the match, but there was too many errors and lapses of concentration thrown in by the Russian, the last being up 30-0 at 4-5 down and just allowing Clijsters back in.

Still i think Clijsters did well to just do enough with holding serve and consolidating on Dementieva's slip ups in her service games, but i think Kim herself was expecting Dementieva to win that first set, but still Kim did well to fight through it.

The encouraging thing was clijsters is that her forehand was at least a bit more stable, but still not really damaging with it as she was last year. I still think if Kuzy wins through, the bigger Russian forehand will prevail.

Hey dl :D

I completely agree with what you said. Elena had many opportunities, particularly in the first set with the 3-0 lead, but she never held her concentration for long enough. Kim played well, but not mind-blowingly well - there were still a few uncharacteristic errors.

I'm still concerned about Kim's forehand. Some of her approach shots quite dreadful. Did you see that whip right up the back of the ball?! It was like she was in a boot-throwing competition! roflmao

Kims forehand looked awful. It could break down any time

LDF - May 6, 2006 01:47 PM (GMT)
Kim's forehand is just a technically poor shot. She has a huge backswing, and if she's off her timing just a little bit then the ball will fly out or into the net. Her reverse forehand follow-through is almost as ugly as Sharapova's.

Kim is through? Excellent! Hehe, the revenge of the Fed cup

And in the final she will play Sveta, who crushed Chakvetadze 6-1 6-1.

Sveta really is just riding the crest of the wave at this tournament so far. To crush Chakvetadze like that to back up her excellent Venus win was superb. Just shows how good Sveta is on clay. All departments of her game seems to be working perfectly to this kind of surface, and i'm enjoying her litle forays to the net as well as her trademark ferocious hitting.

I think the final is in Sveta's hands. If Clijsters tries to trade with Sveta off the forehand wing, she's going to be in trouble. Sveta has much more width on the Forehand than Clijsters, and much better technique and precision. I think if Sveta's serve is also working well, its going to be increasingly hard for the Belgian to counter an all-out attack from the Russian. If that forehand especially is all over the place, i get the feeling Sveta could trample Kim.

Go Sveta! :D

On WTAWorld I predicted a 7-5 6-2 win for Sveta, and I'm sticking to that, Kim shouldn't be underestimated, she's much better at winning titles, even on clay, than Sveta, and she's not as error-prone, but I do think that Sveta is in better form than Kim right now and will win...

If she loses then she'll be the runner-up here in Warsaw 3 years running

Yep

I'd go with Sveta too - she's just in supreme form, and I'd expect her to carry that over into tomorrow's final. Kim's certainly starting to get herself together again, but she's still making uncharacteristic errors. As you say dl, if it becomes the battle of the forehands, Sveta will triumph. She's also served very effectively all week, and if she manages to do so again, she should win in straight sets. Still, I'd never count Kim out - she has shown flashes of excellence in her matches (albeit not many), she's moving well, and as Dav said, has more experience in this situation.
