Title: Are they serious?!?

I have been article browsing and came across this quote on SI.com which amused, baffled and slightly dissapointed me.

"If Justine Henin were to put down her racket now, would her career accomplishments already make her Hall of Fame-worthy? " |
Jessica Kluetmeier/SI
I find it astonishing that they can even doubt that Justine had been a great of the recent years. Ok yeah I am probably looking at this with bias tinted glasses but surely what she has done so far is enough to satisfy them!

Achhh - donna worry - it's an American magazine/website and full of Williams fans
I've read it and roflmao
The answer by the writer was, if I can remember, yes :P

The question itself is silly. She has and Olympic medal 7 GS Championships. She is definitely "Hall of Fame" worthy!

Ive always thought justine is one of these players that will be appreciated more once she has retired. She never had the instant wow factor of Graf of Serena, but people will see her record in future years, and then say wow!!!

It sure is!
They have even let one Slam wonder Novotna into the Tennis Hall of Fame and Arantxa 'lets hit another moonball' Sanchez-Vicario into it....
Think Justine getting in is a no-brainer! :P
liam_valid - October 8, 2007 06:34 PM (GMT)

RG 1989
UsO 94
Anyway, justine's done more than enough to gain entry into the record books. So has Venus with those 4 Wimby titles!!!!
SuperBRAT - October 8, 2007 08:12 PM (GMT)
It's stupid and biased. Just cos Justine isn't loud, showy, a media whore or a glamour Queen and not from a large tennis nation, really.

My point is, ASV must have had more than just a moonball in her arsenal to keep up with Steffi the way she did, and firmly deserves her place in the hall of fame. Agree about Novotna though
T01 - October 9, 2007 10:39 AM (GMT)
If the likes of Sabatini, Navotna et al can make it, Justine's case is a doddle. May be she doesn't want be included after these names? who knows??
juan_carlos772652 - November 19, 2007 06:11 PM (GMT)
Hey, I love ASV. She was one of the toughest competitors on tour, with a killer forehand, consistent sliced backhand, long slender legs, and a big serve. Funny, I always remembered ASV winning against that chubby Spanish player who moonballed a lot ... ah what was her name?
Lol.

Quite so - she is far enough up the ladder for quite a few inhabitants of the Hall of Fame to be removed before her place would be threatened too.
Federer-Williams - November 19, 2007 07:33 PM (GMT)
I'm sure Federer/Serena/Venus will get in for their incredible acheivements and what they have done for the game.
I'm not so sure about Henin she has the acheivements but she isn't really an enigmatic number one drawing in the crowds.
Also she has alot of question marks over her career:
FO 03
AO 04  Fortunate Linecalle?
AO 06
Plus she never won Wimbledon?
Also I'm sure there is a minimum height Requirement too ! roflmao

Errr....Fed Williams I am not quite so sure how much you are making a joke there.....I know the height bit is.... :D
Also I am sure you are having a laugh with the question marks over her career? I think she has proven herself over and over again...
...Also.... if you are so sure the VEnus will get in with 6 Single Grand Slam Tournament wins why would Justine not get in with 7?
Federer-Williams - November 19, 2007 08:55 PM (GMT)
Yes of course she will get in but they will be putting her on a box for her speech and call her Henin-Hardenne by accident.
They will also put an asterisk by her name to mention that she shouldn't really have won the French in 03.
And of course Venus will get in!!!!!!! She is a sure bet because:
She won WImbledon   x 4 and counting.
Plus 6 Doubles GS and 2 Mixed and 2 US Opens.
GOld medal in singled AND doubles.!!!!!
Plus she revolutionised the game for more athleticness and power and took it to a new level.
Also she was the major part in finalising equal prize money.
Plus she meets the minimum height reqirement!

You need to leave that in the past dude.... Serena got on the wrong side of things and let it get to her too much. Had she kept her head and won then she would have deserved it...she didn't. In my opinion Justine was the deserved winner in the end.
Seriously FW I think you are sounding a little bitter here and not giving Justine much respect at all.
Federer-Williams - November 19, 2007 09:09 PM (GMT)
Much bitter I am Gav.
She does deserve to be in there though I must admit especially after this year.
To answer you. I respect her game, the way she plays, her mental abilities. She is the true no.1 the best on clay.
But I still don't respect her as a person.

Yes it's extremely interesting that you don't respect someone for a dodgy point in a final but you respect someone who whines like a baby every time they lose a tennis match...

It's funny how you despise Sharapova for on-court coaching but are willing to turn a blind eye to Henin.
Rogdriguez also said Henin didn't regret putting her hand up and would have apologised to any other player but thought Serena was arrogant so let it pass.
Also get back to me when a William's retires in a GrandSlam final from a tummy ache.

Well come back and tell me which Grand Slam tournaments and YEC matches Henin has had code violations for and we can start having a sensible conversation comparing her with The Chea..., Maria... :D
Yes and Sourena never quits matches she is losing claiming injury or illness...

trisco - November 20, 2007 05:11 PM (GMT)
I used to think that Henin's CONSTANT glances to Carlos were to do with coaching but, I don't now. It amazes me how much she does this and it can't be for sly little winks from Carlos about what to do.. I reckon now it is probably more just a reassurance thing for her, I guess he has been the one contstant in her life when other people have come and gone around her and she gets comfort from that.
As for Novotna not being worthy of Hall Of Fame, then Pfft to anyone who thinks she shouldn't be. She has been in 4 (I think) Slam finals, beat every top player going in her era and was a constant challenge in many GS she played in. It is probably to do with fame in terms of support from fans too and people loved to watch Novotna play, plus she was a fantastic ambassador for the game and represented the WTA tour extremely well. Never any question on her sportsmanship, oh and bundles of GS doubles titles to add to that and an Olympic medal.
