Andrew Murray has beaten last year's finalist, Andy Roddick, to advance to the 4th round of a GS for the 1st time. Next, he faces AO finalist Baghdatis

Well his armbands are nice, in fact the whole outift is tasteful using his national colours well. I am so glad someone is wearing Fred Perry in court too in honour of the great man. :ok: That stuff is trendy again, after it's numerous revivals with the mod scene form the 60s, late 70s and recently. Wish I had nto chucked mine out now. :D

SB, the Fred Perry stuff does seem to come back into fashion every 10 years or so :) In addition to the ones that you mentioned, I recall Blur et al bringing it back into focus in the mid-90s and Ordinary Boys I guess now..

I don't care much for palava following Murray's comments about the football. The multitude of threads on the beeb board says more about the people that have posted the comments rather than the original comment itself. I've noticed a few people who I previously liked on the board airing their laundry in this respect, and it was not nice.

The ironic thing in the light of that is that the Fred Perry clothing is generally seen as a quintessentially English brand. Each time that it has come back into focus it has been very English movements , such as Mods, Two Tone, Britpop etc.

Ah yes, tennis. Murray played supremely well, and deserved to win, and of course deserves all of the plaudits that he has been receiving. I'm also glad that he has been quoted as saying that he played fantastically well. I much prefer people to say that they played well, rather than overdosing on false modesty. There is a time and place for patting oneself on the back!!! And no, to say that one did well is not arrogance. Credit where credit is due :)

Totaly agree with you Petpalp, false modesty is not what we want here. I think he deserves to praise himself, he did so well. Anyway, he ha ssmartly played down his chances so far I think, saying he woudl have a a tough match, or he might win or givign himself a percentage chance that wasn't so high.

I'm sick of the eng land Scottish stuff too, and I have seen some posters show a nastier siade of late as a result.

Yeah on the Fred Perry stuff, I have been known to go to scooter rallies adn you will see loads of it being worn by people aged 5-55! My nephew wears it, looks great. I was in the two-tone stuff so had it then. I was a big Blur fan so remeber it coming back then too. It is VERY English indeed.

Hi SB! :)

Yeah, I was into the Two Tone stuff too, big time! Was in Coventry at the time, the Specials were big and any self-respecting kid had the Fred Perry Shirt, Harrington jacket, Madness/ Selecter/ The Beat badges etc. Ah, nostalgia ain't what it used to be, etc, etc.. :D

Your scooter rally sounds fab! Must be a great atmosphere and a good laugh :) Makes me think of Quadrophenia.

Yeah, I was a big Blur fan too, and bought the odd FP top back then too! Have fond memories of seeing them at Mile End, amongst other places. I remember being at Reading in 94, watching Elastica when the friend that I was with kept looking to my left. Wondered what was going on, looked over and 5-6 yards away was Damon, enjoying some chips whilst watching his (then) other half. Slowly it dawned on people around us that it was Damon, esp amongst the female element! He had to make a sharp exit! :D

Speaking of Elastica, a friend of mine was in Boulder, Colorado about a month ago, bumped into and ended up hanging out with Justine Frischmann, who now lives there. Said she was very nice (must remember to ask him what she's actually doing there?!).

Re: Eng/ Scot, I did actually wade into a discussion on this earlier this year (well, it was more Celts v English). It was pointless; circular conversations by people entrenched in their own prejudices. I got labelled pc petalp! Oh, I was so wounded :P

Yeah, Mr Murray is certainly cleverly dampening things down re: expectations, but if he keeps playing like that then he shouldn't be afraid of anyone in his half of the draw (though Rafa might be a little problematic), but shouldn't think ahead I guess. Did you check out Murray's atp blog? Classic teenager stuff (well, no surprise there!)! Will be an interesting week ahead, that's for sure.. :)
