Title: The Champion is out! Venus loses 6-7 6-4 4-6
LDF - July 1, 2006 06:01 PM (GMT)
:o
I only got to see the final game, but it seems Jankovic really pounced on Venus' second serves. 54 unforced errors by Venus, indicating a very erratic performance (50 winners to go with them)...
I can't believe it!
Though Jelena has been regaining her form, and we knew that she would test Venus.

Hi LDF.. looks like we posted simultaneously!!
The Dav - July 1, 2006 06:07 PM (GMT)
I saw the last two sets, Jankovic was pretty solid, but as usual with Venus, it's she who determines the scoreline, her serve really has lost a bit of it's venom, she let a break go in the 2nd and again in the 3rd...
I must say I am stunned also, Venus was typically brave in that tense last game, but it was shocking to see her throw in a double fault at deuce, which gave Jankovic her 4th mp, which she took...
Sorry dl  :(

I know, after hitting a couple of huge first serves to save two match points, that double fault was inexplicable...
Her wide serve on the deuce court didn't seem to be working too well though (but that's only based on a couple of games  ).
Yeh, sorry to all Venus fans!

LDF, where (country-wise) did you watch the match from, if you don't mind me asking??
I've only recently got bbci, and am wondering if there is something up with it. Or whether the channel is different.. I've no idea.
Or maybe I'm doing something wrong?
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks! :)

LDF, thanks for your reply, much appreciated.. :) Absolutely no problem re: delay; have been out for the last few hours, and only just back in.
I'm watching from up in Scotland, and maybe the choice is less here. So far, I have only been able to access a maximum of 2 matches on bbci, which has been most frustrating when Sue Barker says that a match is a available and I can't access it
Was interested in the discussion that you were having with dl04 about forehands on another thread btw. That sort of conversation was the original reason why I joined the beeb board, and was good to see something like that again. :)

its good to see Jelena is recovering her lost form these past few weeks

I might have guessed this woudl happen. Last year I had small bet on jankovic, and no money on venus. This year the ther way around! Sods law. roflmao
I am shocked, but then again not so shocked. Venus is unpredictable however which way you look at it. It's a shame that she goes liek this really. I'm quite dissappointed she is out, but pleased for Jankovic.

I knew Venus would be most in danger in the early rounds...
Give credit to Jankovic in all of this, she hung in really well and took a huge scalp!
I must say that these events have helped Maria's chances, but it is sad that she won't get another go at Venus :(
