I'd be surprised if Bartoli & Hantuchova catch up with her.

Venus should at the very least reach the final of both Seoul & Bangkok. Ok they're not big point tournaments but they are still roughly the same as reaching the QF's/SF's of a Tier 1/2 which is probably the best Bartoli and Hantuchova can hope for given that the indoor season looks to have a better turn out this year than last.

She may have more to worry about from Petrova who is usually at her best indoors.

Apparently Venus really wants to make the YEC this year so hopefully she will (especially since I'm going!)

Here's a question I have.... Will Serena's be tally be enough to get her there if she doesn't play from now until ther YEC's?

I would have thought so - a 500 point gap is a pretty decent safety margin really especially when you consider Hantuchova & Bartoli aren't likely to be winning or even making the finals of the last few tournaments.

If Petrova has one of her hot streaks then she could close the gap I suppose.

It's hard to tell - Hingis was 8th last year with 1926 points but ranking points were lower then so you can't make a straight comparison.

The latest WTA schedules have Serena down to play Stuttgart, Moscow & Zurich - now I doubt she'll play all three but that would suggest she does intend to play again before the end of the year. I would have thought getting some revenge on Justine would motivate her!
