Robredo beat Kunitsyn 3 and 1.
Ljubicic took out Baggy in a third-set tie-break. :(
Gonzo went through against Lee 7-5 6-7 6-4.
The last QF is still going on. Kiefer took the first set against Cilic, and it's on serve in the second. So it looks like Nicolas is on course to make the semis here. I wouldn't mind him taking out Robredo, for sure.
mightyjeditribble - September 14, 2007 03:26 PM (GMT)
Kiefer broke for 6-5 and is now serving for the set. Bye-bye, Cilic ...
Dinky Jo - September 14, 2007 03:29 PM (GMT)
Baggy :( I really hope he's not destined to be another Safin-type - highly inconsistent - i do like baggy
mightyjeditribble - September 14, 2007 03:35 PM (GMT)
And thus we have the semi-final matchup:
[2] F Gonzalez (CHI) vs [4] I Ljubicic (CRO)
[3] T Robredo (ESP) vs [WC] N Kiefer (GER)
I'm rooting for a Gonzo - Kiwi final!

I like Baggy too - but even though they're both inconsistent (atm anyway), he seems like a completely different type to Marat ...
Also, to be fair, I think this is the first time he's ever lost to Ljubicic, and it seems like it was a tight match after all.

After his good end of the season last year, and his run to the AO final, it is somewhat shocking that Gonzo hasn't even won a single title this year. His form really has dropped, hasn't it?
Maybe he can do it here?
Tenez - September 14, 2007 04:56 PM (GMT)
I would say that from Roddick (ranked 5) to any player ranked lower, it is very much a lottery. Anybody can beat anybody. Some of those players like Lubo, Gonzo, Robredo may have a patch where they feel closer to the top 4 but then a slight fatigue or simply loss of edge and they are back with the "lower ranked" rest. We praise Gonzo for his last year end of season but Lubo did the same the year before, Now it seems Ferrer is the "hot" player but how long is it going to last?
Only the top 4 have the focus and preparation to deiver consistantly.
PS - Yes I know that Davy lost in the 1st round this week but that was quite expected after the USO and jet lagging. That is got there to grab is entry fee is already good enough for me.

And Gonzo beats Robredo in the final!
He's now at #7 in the race. So if he can emulate the good results he had in last year's indoor season, he might have a good chance to make Shanghai. Go Gonzo!
