Title: Bali
T01 - September 10, 2007 12:12 PM (GMT)
Lindsay Daveport is back in singles as well as doubles. She should be able to do well in the first two rounds atleast and then she is drawn to meet Jelena Jankovic in QF.
She also plays doubles with Daniela Hantuchova! Good luck to Lindsay, as well as Dani, she needs to find her form again. In singles, Dani should atleast make the semis, where she may meet Patty!

Ooft! Casey Dell'Acqua is giving Jankovic a beating - she's 4-1 up against the Serb in the first set :yikes:

Ah well done Casey! I'd never heard of her til she was in the Oz Fed Cup team a few months back. She's steadily climbing the rankings.
Would be nice to have a big upset but I doubt it will happen... not that I really mind who wins.
MissSospanFach - September 13, 2007 10:55 AM (GMT)
It's 5*-4 to Jelena now.
There has been upset today though- Ana Medina Garrigues got beaten by Errani in 3 sets.
Russiafan - September 13, 2007 11:06 AM (GMT)
Jeca Jankovic takes the first set 6-4. Clearly she's back on track. But it's good to see Casey puttting up a fight :)
Anabel's defeat is a little surprising as she is rather consistent and usually safely makes it as far as her ranking/seeding suggests. Errani was a top ten junior, but that was at least 4 years ago, clearly she's one of those players that take longer to develop.
Heninator - September 13, 2007 11:08 AM (GMT)
Jankovic stutters to the first set 6-4 :ok:
Russiafan - September 13, 2007 01:10 PM (GMT)
Jelena closes out the second set 6-4, whilst Lindsay trashes Julie Ditty.
T01 - September 13, 2007 03:16 PM (GMT)
Poor old Patty lost in R2. Her ne found hobby of dishing out bagles and breadstick earlier in the season has sizzled out!
Dani better reach the finals now as no other top players left in her half of the draw.

Dani seems pretty nice lass....full of praise for Linds
T01 - September 14, 2007 10:17 AM (GMT)
Amazing, LD is serving for the match against Jankovic!!
T01 - September 14, 2007 10:17 AM (GMT)
And she has won that match! What a come back for the lovely Lindsay Daveport!!
Russiafan - September 14, 2007 10:28 AM (GMT)
OMG LINDSAY :yikes:
I never expected her to be able to beat Jelena, though I hoped for a close match! WOW, well I guess this goes to show that LD is back in business and after another slam :D
petalp - September 14, 2007 10:42 AM (GMT)
Well done Lindsay Davenport!
Quite an achievement to turn up and beat a match-fit, world number 3, regardless of her own champion credentials.
Mind you, add this to Serena Williams seemingly winning the AO from nowhere, and comprehensively beating the world number 2 in the final in the process.. and Venus Williams outclassing everyone at SW19..
Just makes me think that the current field in women's tennis isn't quite as strong as it was, say 6-7 years ago, when there were the Williams, Davenport, Capriati, Mauresmo, Henin slugging it out for supremacy.
I'd say that the likes of JJ, Ivanovic, Sharpie, Chakvetadze are just not in the same class as these players.. yet.
If they can elevate themselves to the same level then that would be great. Might also pave the way for a new aspect to the women's game, where players could peak in the early to mid twenties, as opposed to a lot younger (as it seems to have been in the past), and therefore more in line with the men's game.? Maybe this is because with the baseline power-hitting, the women's game has become more similar to the men's game than, say, 10-15 years ago?

That's an interesting idea. Yeah as much as I'm glad that Linds won, it does rather embarrass the current crop of WTA stars with her rocking up after almost a year off and beating the world number 3. Then again although Serena marched to the Australian Open title, she didn't have it all her own way and was knocked out in the small Hobart event by Bammer...
Anyway maybe it is a case of women reaching the peak later in their careers (Farina-Elia style), I mean with everyone now hitting the ball so hard, it's consistency, variety and mental toughness that decides who wins the slams, and at the moment it's the more experienced players (Vee, Juju and Rena) who have these qualities.
The Dav - September 14, 2007 03:55 PM (GMT)
Lindsay! :yahoo:  Wow, totally exceeded my expectations, now win the title! :D
I agree with petalp, whilst Justine and V&S can play at an extremely high level at times, the players below them are a bit ropey, I'm sorry but Chakvetadze is not the 5th best player in the world  Anyway, Lindsay should get back into the top 5 sometime next year :D
T01 - September 14, 2007 04:29 PM (GMT)
hey guys slow down. We don't want to jinx LD just yet. She had to give a w/o in doubles. Hopefully she will be better for her singles tomorrow!
dl04 - September 15, 2007 12:52 PM (GMT)
I'm so glad that Linds reached the final :D :yahoo:
I've seen some clips of her previous matches in Bali, and it's just trademark lindsay. Last year around this time, i just felt her timing, footwork etc was so off, but looking at her already, it's just that effortless ball-striking which i love to see :D
Good result for Daniela too, always a bit of a feat when Dani can win a few matches in a row
Thank god linds is back though, because i feel the top 10 will start to shape the way it's supposed to again. IMO, the best 4 players on the planet are Venus, Serena, Justine and lindsay, and i do expect that to materialise if everyone stays healthy. I like Anna C, but i agree she's not the 5th best player in the world, and i wouldnt say Jankovic and Ivanovic are true elite yet
liam_valid - September 15, 2007 01:23 PM (GMT)
I want Jankovic to step it up really. She is a natural ambassador for the sport and i feel once she gets that breakthrough slam, and maybe play a few less tournies, she will really start to go on a roll
Nick Havoc - September 16, 2007 11:03 AM (GMT)

Muchos respect to Lindsay!
Shows what a classy player she is! :)
It's great to see her back and what a great week she had, even though she beat Jelena :( who seemed to lose it in their match... :crazy1:
