Title: US Open final: Henin V Kuznetsova
trisco - September 8, 2007 11:47 PM (GMT)
What time does it start?
I doubt we will have a lot of posts on here due to the time though...
I'm really in two minds about who I want to win this..
I'll probably realise when watching who I want to win..
Normally happens that way.
Wise_Analyst - September 8, 2007 11:57 PM (GMT)
I've never relalyt liekd Henin unitl this year, wgere I fee she's really changed for the better. Knocking out both the Williams sisters in staight sers has furhte remdeared her to me.
I've also never relaly liked Kuznetosva until this year, where I started to like her even less. Boring waste f spac.e
Henin's draw has been really difficult but a ferret could have reached the final with Kuznetsova's. It would be a complete joke if the Russina won this one and further inflated her already over-inflated ranking.
Henin to win easily.

I think I am with you on all accounts there Wise.
never liked either of them until this year..
I think I am only liking Henin now as she is becoming a great it seems and I can admire all the effort she has put in and her talent.
Did I hear right that Kuzzy will be number 2 after this match win or lose?
She's a likeable girl too it seems but I will go with Henin for this, who I think will win and who I want to win.
I've probably jinxed her now though..
Gav - September 9, 2007 12:12 AM (GMT)
I want Henin to win this one as well. I have admired her game for a long while and it only seems to be getting better.
The only thing that may work against her is that having beaten both the Williams sisters already she may feel the job is done and all she has to do is turn up. But I doubt she will fall into that trap.
Henin to win in two.
trisco - September 9, 2007 12:15 AM (GMT)
Gav I have sent you a PM dude.
Wise_Analyst - September 9, 2007 12:19 AM (GMT)
Yo trisco. Love the name btw - I forgot you spoke Spanish.
I never warmed to Henin cos of some of her dodgier stuff in the past - we both know the shit I mean. But this year she seems a lot warmer and likeable. And she's definitely a great - I used to have this feeling that the Williams sisters were unbeatable when they were near the top of their games but she's turned them both over here and proved she's their equal.
Kuznetsova though just f*cking bores me. Like you said, she'll be number 2 after she loses which is just a joke - she's done f*ck all this year. I'm alsio very bitter that Ana should have had her piss easy draw, but lost first round at Toronto and cos of that ended uyp seeded 5th.
I'm just going to go and bash that useless cretin Davydenko, but I sall be back shortyl.

:lmaao:
get one in for me ;) lol He's alright really... just can't perform when he should do and a bit boring to watch actually..
Spanish? where did that come from? I vaguely remember sending you a message some time ago but I was drunk and I think that had some Spanish but it was all from a translating website
I can't actually speak a word..
trisco - September 9, 2007 12:29 AM (GMT)
Its started..
Gonna run off and watch it for a while as I can't find a stream.
laters folks
Gav - September 9, 2007 12:32 AM (GMT)
Cheerio Trisc.
It's 3-0 Henin with two breaks already. I smell a bagel.
Wise_Analyst - September 9, 2007 12:34 AM (GMT)
 Sorry, I'm still really f*cked and became cdonvinced that it was Spanish. Trisco in Spanish means 'I mingle'. Or maybe you speak Portuguese? In that it means 'I quarrel'. :lmaao:
Davydenko is a robot designed to do exactly what is mathematically expected of a player ranked number 3 in the world. Any attempt to improve on that and he malfunctions. I would love to swing him round by that stupud tuft of hair before throwing him into a pit of burning tar.

Well he has already stuffed it up as he is number 4 in the world. Does not compute.

3/4, same thing. Semi-final and then home.
Henin 4-0 up now. I'd quite like a double bagel here.
Gav - September 9, 2007 12:46 AM (GMT)
No bagels here though. Kuzzy gets a game on the board and actually played a couple of stunning backhands down the line there. Mmmmmm she doesn't seem to have much else on offer though. 4-1.
Gav - September 9, 2007 12:50 AM (GMT)
Breadstick looming. Kuzzy 1-5 15-30 down....

Gasquet - talents of a genius, mentality of a pilchard.
A cry of ALLEZ and Henin is 6-1 3-1 up and unless Kuzzy does something amazing we don't have too much longer to go in this final.

:) I said Justine had the rythm and the psyche to get through all those girls at the USopen.......
:yep: And she has proved me just right.....  cheers to one
Gutsy focused lady.... hopefully somewhere along the line she will add
the Wimbledon....not that she needs it but just for history sake, cause she has the game to win it at some point.....
Dear me  ...... I said it was funny when I read the quotes from Kuznetsova on the other thread about not bothering to find out what the other girls in the tournament were doing.... I hope she does from now on... cause it may be another reason why she is so slow off the block..you don't know what your opponent will throw at at you......
Unfortunately with Justine, you start off snoozing, you can kiss the tourney good bye..you know she will be all over you...
WELL Done Miss Justine Henin, 2007 Usopen Champ, after an unpleasant personal start to the year...she comes through with flying colors... :ok:
dl04 - September 9, 2007 09:10 AM (GMT)

Late on this one..
Delighted that Justine secured the title.. would have been a travesty had Kuzzy won it..
The key features of Justine's tournament for me have been her mental resilience, and her consistently high quality tennis.
My only fear was that she might have been worn out by the final. Thankfully not the case.
So.. Justiner a worthy winner, definitely the best player in the tournament.
And I agree with Wise's observatins that the lower draw was farcical. The difference in quaity between the two finalists reflected this imo.
Manzikert - September 10, 2007 01:37 AM (GMT)
I'll also chime in to say well done to Henin. She was slightly overlooked in the furore over the Williams sisters and the Serbian stars, but proved she's the most convincing No 1 in the women's game for years, reaching the semifinals or better for more than a year now in every event she plays, and winning the lion's share of them. She now holds a considerable 1500-pt lead at No 1, with nothing to defend until the YEC, and even if she skipped Madrid entirely would still maintain her ranking.
Well done also to Kuznetsova, for winning the matches she should win and being consistent in her own way even if she tends to always fall short of truly good results. I didn't expect for her to have given Henin even more of a fight in the Belgian's stomping grounds of Paris last year than she ultimately did in New York, however. But at any rate reaching another USO final has I think validated her lone Slam title if it needed to be - in fact she even backed up her New Haven title (the only one on the year) by taking out Szavay comprehensively. :P
I'd like to see Henin stop messing about in Eastbourne and concentrate solely on Wimbledon next year - after two finals reached and a quixotic semifinal loss this year the title (and with it the career Slam) is hardly beyond her ability, but her window to claim it is probably closing soonish. It's interesting that her Slam titles all came on the back of mentally frail opponents in the final (with Kuznetsova gunning to be the new Clijsters not only in splits and flexibility but final losses to Henin) but she's had convincing wins en route to the final also. All of which is to say it's hard for me to get excited about her Slam wins, even if they gain my increasing respect and admiration.
It can hardly have escaped Serena's notice that Henin is just one Slam title behind her total now. It should make for an interesting title defence at the AO next year. B)
