Title: Day 13 - Saturday 8th September
Description: Semifinals
Nick Havoc - September 8, 2007 02:12 PM (GMT)
Two pretty nice sounding semis today, Ferrer v. Djokovic followed by Federer v. Davydenko. I'm predicting a Federer v. Djokovic final, but I hope the matches today are close enough to be interesting.
:ok:
Gav - September 8, 2007 03:45 PM (GMT)
I'm hoping for a decent set of semi's too. I have a feeling Mr. Davydenko may well push Federer very hard indeed. His game is picking up and looks pretty good at the moment.
Ferrer's game is also looking good, but I have a feeling Djokovic will get past him.
mightyjeditribble - September 8, 2007 04:50 PM (GMT)
Ferrer was 4-1 up against Djokovic, but then the Serbian woke up and levelled things to 4-4. Ferrer now serving to stop the rot and make it 5-4.
mightyjeditribble - September 8, 2007 04:52 PM (GMT)
Djoko is on fire --- he breaks Ferrer to make it 5-4 and will now serve for the first set.
mightyjeditribble - September 8, 2007 04:56 PM (GMT)
2 set points for Djokovic ... and he takes the first set.
What a let-down for Ferrer, losing 5 games in a row. :yikes:
mightyjeditribble - September 8, 2007 05:03 PM (GMT)
Ferrer goes 0-30 down in his opening service game of the second ... then gets a game point at 40-30 ... but gets pegged back and faces break point ... saves it, but to no avail.
Djokovic wins his 6th straight game in a row. :yikes:
Ace - September 8, 2007 05:23 PM (GMT)
I'm kinda supporting Novak just cuz....I wanna see Fed crush him in the finals
Harry Potter - September 8, 2007 05:42 PM (GMT)
Gosh, does anyone remember Ferrer's spectacular choke against Robredo in last year's Hamburg quarters? He was 6-1 up in a TB but went on to lose it 10-12! You will never cease to amaze me, mi amigo
mightyjeditribble - September 8, 2007 05:54 PM (GMT)
Sounds like Djokovic is having some problems with the heat --- he had the trainer on court apparently. He got broken back, but then he managed to break Ferrer again. Ferrer managed to hold on to his next service game; now it's 5-4 with the Driddler about to serve for a 2-set lead.
mightyjeditribble - September 8, 2007 05:57 PM (GMT)
Djokovic serves it out to love, and it's difficult to see Ferrer getting back into this now.
mightyjeditribble - September 8, 2007 06:04 PM (GMT)
The third set begins like the second, with Ferrer in trouble on his opening service game. However, this time he fights back from 15-40 to keep his fragile hopes alive.
OK, I will be off to a party in a few minutes.
Sadly, this means I will probably miss all of Roger's match ... unless Ferrer can win a couple of sets here to prolong this match.
Come on David! :P
I hope I'm right in thinking Davydenko won't give Roger too much trouble ... he's been looking pretty dangerous here.

Have you been drinking?
yorkshire - September 8, 2007 06:59 PM (GMT)
Deliberate misspellings don't make you look drunk. If you were properly drunk you'd think that your fridge was your computer and you'd try to type your posts on that.
Tenez - September 8, 2007 07:17 PM (GMT)
Is there a link to this semifinal.
Tenez - September 8, 2007 07:19 PM (GMT)
scolios - September 8, 2007 07:21 PM (GMT)
Can't you get REurosport, Tenez? It's on there now - so I'm offm but will look in here ocasionally.
Go, Fed
Tenez - September 8, 2007 07:22 PM (GMT)
No - Unfortunately!!! Allez Fed but I said it all along. This is the Final!
scolios - September 8, 2007 07:23 PM (GMT)
S***!
It's 3-1 to Davydenko!

Wow Davy playing well, as he has been all tournament....

Gav - September 8, 2007 07:46 PM (GMT)
Fed now 5-3 up but serving at 30-40.
chokapova - September 8, 2007 07:51 PM (GMT)
Davydenko breaks back with some stunning play... :B&B:
scolios - September 8, 2007 07:58 PM (GMT)
Looks like a tie break coming up!
SaraLess - September 8, 2007 07:59 PM (GMT)
Not unduly surprised to see Novak getting through...
Watching the Fed vs. Davydenko match now - Davydenko is playing very well...I do think Fed will win but I don't think it'll be in the straight sets he could do with in time for tomorrows match.
SaraLess - September 8, 2007 08:01 PM (GMT)
And Rog takes the first set :)
scolios - September 8, 2007 08:01 PM (GMT)
SaraLess - September 8, 2007 08:09 PM (GMT)
Davydenko seems to be losing his grip on this second set. I honestly think he really doesn't believe he can beat Federer.
scolios - September 8, 2007 08:13 PM (GMT)
TWO double faults in one game fram Davydenko! Doesn't make for the most exciting tennis - but poor man!
SaraLess - September 8, 2007 08:20 PM (GMT)
Quote commentators "some punishing hitting from both players"
A minor point here, small bit of Fed worship, but I do love the way Rog plays his points silently!
SaraLess - September 8, 2007 08:21 PM (GMT)
Incredible winner from Federer
SaraLess - September 8, 2007 08:23 PM (GMT)
what a brilliant rally?!? Top spin volleys on fore and back hand!!
SaraLess - September 8, 2007 08:35 PM (GMT)
breadstick served for Davydenko...
Federer was on cruise control for that second set.
scolios - September 8, 2007 08:38 PM (GMT)
Hi, SaraLess, I'm still here - but the computer is in another room from the TV, up five steps, so it takes me a while to get back and I'm a lousy and slow typist anyway!!!
Allez, Fed!
SaraLess - September 8, 2007 08:44 PM (GMT)
Allez Fed indeed!
I'm just wittering away here, my husband and I always commentate through matches (though he makes more sense than I do! :D )
Fed playing very well, isn't he? His concentration has slipped slightly in this game, allowing Davydenko to get a bit of momentum back.
On a side note, this scheduling from the USO is pretty poor. If Fed / Davydenko had a 5 setter here, he'd have less than 24 hrs to prepare for the final. That's rubbish! I've been confounded by their scheduling process for the entire week
Ace - September 8, 2007 08:51 PM (GMT)
Pretty straightforward stuff from Fed in that second set.
Things looking pretty good.
scolios - September 8, 2007 08:52 PM (GMT)
Absolutely, Sara - that's why Fed wants this match over as quickly as possible, there's less than 24 hours to the Final.
Assuming, of course, that Fed wins......
SaraLess - September 8, 2007 08:56 PM (GMT)
I just don't understand why it would be scheduled like that? Very bizarre!
Well, baked goods off the agenda for the third set...I hope Fed gets this wrapped up asap.
Feds had FIVE BPs which he didn't convert and now just got broken by Davydenko.
