Title: Day 11 - Thursday 6th September
Wise_Analyst - September 6, 2007 06:33 PM (GMT)
Just the two matches today - Ferrer vs Chela has already started. Both men have good reason to be a bit tired by now, but it's Ferrer who's starting this match as he finished against Nadal, 6-2, 5-2 up.
The other match is expected to be the more entertaining, with veteran Lion Carlos Moya taking on young gun Djokovic. Again, both have dropped plenty of sets in getting this far and it's tough to call. Moya has had the edge recently, winning both of their last two matches including one on a hard court in Cincinatti a few weeks back.
However, this is best of 5 sets and I feel Djokovic will have too much, probably prevailing in 4 tight sets. Again though, this match will surely take something out of him, and given that Ferrer's whizzing past Chela, it makes the semi-final hard to call.

Chela may not be the worlds greatest player, but look at Ferrer go!! No longer the "silent seed" hovering around the 4th round of every major tournament and slam!
I also think Djokovic will win later, and even though the match may take something out of him...I still don't see Ferrer (if he wins this, which looks exceedingly likely) beating him - it's moving up to a different gear I haven't seen Ferrer do yet. Yes, he was impressive against Rafa, but was that a fully 100% Nadal?
We'll see, but I'm enjoying the way it's opening up...

I quite like Ferrer - I don't know why, his match against Nalbandian made my eyes bleed, admirable as it was. However by all accounts he was good to watch against Nadal, and this is impressive against Chela. I've never quite bought all this invisible seed lark either - there are plenty of other clowns in the top 20 just as invisible as him. He's 2 sets up now, although he has just had to break back in the third.
If he does get through this match easily, which he looks on course to, and Djokovic has a gruelling victory over Moya, like you I still think Djoko will be favourite. However, it'd surely be another gruelling, long drawn out match with Ferrer which'd leave him as good as exhausted for the final. :(

I honestly think it will be easy for Djokovic, I can't see what Ferrer has to hurt him. Ferrer is a consistent baseliner, who happens to be hitting his forehands and angles particularly well this tournament.
Djoko has got deadly, powerful and accurate groundstrokes off both wings. His serve is looking solid, coupled with a bit of guile in the form of some nice net and touch play that have appeared in this GS.
That said, I quite like Ferrer, too - I am pleased he's doing well.
As for the other top 20 invisible seeds - we can be thankful at least that Ljubicic has been ejected from the top 10 ;)

Djokovic takes the first set 6-4 over Moya.
They're in a second-set tiebreak now, which Djoko should have already won, had it not been for a couple bad unforced errors on what should have been easy put-aways.
6-5 Moya, on serve in the tb.

Now a set point to Djokovic at 7-6 after a nice bh winner.
Ace from Moya. 7-7
Moya goes just long on a shot from the baseline.
8-7 Djoko, with the serve.
After about 78 bounces of the ball, Djoko finally serves, and it's a good one.
Set to Djoko for a two set lead.

Howdy Nick.. I'm listening to USO.org radio as couldn't get a stream to work.. first time I have listened to it all tournament and it's just like to guys just having a chat about this and that.
Not too much focus on the tennis?
Loads of ads too, although at least i get to hear what is happening in the background. Sounds like a good match.

It's almost over. Djokovic is steamrolling the third set.
5-1 Moya serving at 30-30
Nick Havoc - September 7, 2007 02:01 AM (GMT)
Bummer of a way to finish, as Moya double-faults on match point.
6-4 7-6 6-1

So . . . all four QFs go in straight sets.

I can't say I was really impressed with the level of play in this match. Of course Djoko was the better player, but Moya really should have won the tie-break in the end, the way Djoko was playing.
Djokovic is a great player, but so far this tournament his level has been nowhere near Federer and Davydenko. His main advantage however is the fact that on paper he has a much easier SF opponent. Fed and Davy could really wear each other out.

With semis and the final on consecutive days, that seems indeed like a possibility.
However, I'm not sure about Davydenko. In his post-match interview, it didn't sound like he thinks he can beat Federer. "I see myself as top 10 player, but not top 1 or 2" or something like that.
But he's a great player in great form, no question. So if Roger isn't careful, he may cause him some problems.
