Being a fellow classical tenor, I of course have to extend my condolences over here.
For people interested in hearing what he could do, try to get a hold of recordings before 1975, before he started singing heavier repertoire. His voice was absolutely top notch in those times.

Thanks for the link, Sam!
And thanks, too, to Scvangils for the tip about the pre- 1975 recordings. I am most familiar with Pavarotti through the Three Tenors Concerts, which were great fun.
Yesterday Paul Potts came to Copenhagen where he sang Nessun Dorma in the open air, at Town Hall Square, to the delight of what looked like thousands of people.
No one else had / has a voice quite like Pavarotti's. Thank you for all the pleasure you gave to so many people.

International Herald TribuneThis is a nice link with a good discography. To this I would like to add my favorite Pavarotti-recording:
Rossini's Stabat Mater Although the Petite Messe Solenelle is also on this double CD, the Stabat Mater is the real treat.

be nice to hear you.. whack some on Youtube. :D
RIP Pav. :(
I must say I don't know much about the guy or his music but I remember the World Cup rendition.. was it Nessun Dorma? I guess that is what everyone remembers him for who doesn't follow classical music.

Well that was his breakthrough to the wider world I suppose - after that he performed at many huge concerts and of course was part of the amazing three tenors (with Carreras and Domingo) :)

did he? Wow didn't know that, he's a fine singer too.
But Pavarotti was probably the GOAT, such a great character too :)

What a loss. Well, at least he's fulfilled his potential and will surely get access to the Empire of Angels.

Paul Potts, oh god that's a fairly average way to remind us of the great man. The greatest opear singer ever cannot be emulated and Paul potts is so below par in comparison
It's hard to believe he's gone, he was such a great wordly figure, i remember him opening the Torino winyer olympics last year, and obviously ageing and riddled with illness, his voice was still as breathtaking as ever
His death has left such a void in the world of opera :(
SuperBRAT - September 19, 2007 05:34 PM (GMT)
I love Pavarotti. I'm not an opera expert at all, but I like to hear a good singer and his voice was truly magnificent. No one sang Nessum Dorma as well as he did, stunning range. Lovely man too
RIP Luciano

I hope Paul Potts will do his biggest hit justice at the royal variety though :D
