Go VENUS!!!!! :D

God that match really did take 10 yearsoff my life roflmao As dAv, says Venus loves to thrill her fans, if at times i was reeling :yikes:

What a great comeback by venus, such great fight and such unbelievable pressure tennis. She suddenly found her forehand return which was severly lacking in the first set and beyond, Venus really stepped it up there. Is there anymore unpredictable and intimidating prospect in this years championship than Venus? I think not. Venus is officially one of the best fighters in the game, if not the best.

BTW Venus keep serving great :ok:

I'm really happy that she won!!!! :yahoo:

Hey dl :D

She really is such a tremendous fighter. I think it's good for her to have a test early on in the tournament, not only to send out a message to her competitors, but to keep her match-tight for the later rounds. Yes, her forehand was a little erratic, but she stepped it up in the last half of the match and fully deserved the win. And her backhand looked great, the best I've seen this year :ok:

That said, after failing to serve it out Lisa just collapsed, mainly mentally. Her first serve percentage plummeted, and she was making too many errors from all areas of the court.

Hey guys :)

I didn't see the match, Venus sure loves the drama doesn't she :o

She'll need to improve because Nastya is waiting for her and is sweeping past all her opponents so far, I can't wait for that one :D

dl04 - June 29, 2006 06:57 PM (GMT)
I loved the fact that when Venus went 30-15 down at 5-3, she just shadow-practised her forehand return, if that was Serena there'd be a huge scream i'm sure roflmao

It was just really hard for Venus to get into a rythm today, Lisa was coming in off such good serves, and volleying better than i've ever seen her. Lisa was quite inspired today, but it still wasnt enough, quite depressing really for the veteran American.

Venus was so calm under pressure though, one backhand winner she hit was so low bouncing but she still hit a thundering winner off it. As you say LDF, her backhand was quite supreme at times. And god her serving was incredible :D

Yes Myskina vs Venus would be quite a match, be a good indication of where both women are at the moment. Hopefully Venus will start to raise her game in the latter rounds and produce some of that genius play from the get-go.

LDF - June 29, 2006 06:59 PM (GMT)
Yeh, Venus served extremely well today. 92% of points won on her first serve in the opening set shows that. She was hitting it with plenty of pace and varying it quite well. It's good to see :D

dl04 - June 29, 2006 07:04 PM (GMT)
Yes i loved Venus's serve today, even if she went off a bit on it at 3-2 down in the second, i was like :yikes:

Still she's through :yahoo:

BTW did anyone witness Shuai Peng today, her groundstrokes are so clinical, the timing superb :o

Is someone deciding that Gonzo has to play Marat in the early rounds of Slams??

Too many players that I like are being drawn together in the early rounds!! :(

Genie made a brief appearance on the beeb site. Made a refreshing change from the all the dross flying around.

Had to leave work when Raymond was 5-2 up against VW.. how things had changed when I had finally got home!!

I'm enjoying the Hewitt Lee match. Lee's backhand is awesome at times..

And it's gone to a 5th set!!!!

I think today was an amazing day for Mens Tennis. We had some great matches and two of them are not yet completed. The ladies however has been extremely mediocre in comparison. The way Lisa Raymond just choked was simply awful to watch. She had the match right there in her hands. The rest were one sided just as they were the day before.
The depth in the mens game is just so amazing to see. Even with Federer dominating they still have some great players. Look at Lee and Kendrick today truly awe inspiring Tennis and not forgetting Gonzalez who came back from two sets down to beat M.P. This is turning out to be a much better Wimbledon by far than last year already imo.
Its such a pity that for those who do not have sky T.V do not get a chance to see these great mens players for the rest of the year it really is. I mean how many people would have heard of Lee or Kendrick before today. We all have but I bet a lot dont. Here's hoping for another great day on Friday.
Ans Saturday . The great Agassi/ Nadal line up.

Roll on Friday and good luck Andy

It was great fighting spirit from her, I fancied she'd pull it off though!

She must play better to win the whole, that goes without saying, but she will i'm sure ;)
