Title: US Open 4 September: Day 9
Scotsguy - September 4, 2007 03:15 PM (GMT)
Chela and Wawrinka currently on court, Stan leading 2-1 on serve.
Scotsguy - September 4, 2007 03:19 PM (GMT)
Stan breaks to love with a brilliantly angled forehand :D
Wise_Analyst - September 4, 2007 04:54 PM (GMT)
One set all now. Wawrinka was a break up in the third, but Chela has just broken back... now 4-3 on serve to the Swiss no. 2. Vamos Chela!
Poor effort from the thread starter btw - where was the smiley in the header?
liam_valid - September 4, 2007 04:56 PM (GMT)
im only watching livescores but it seems both men are having probs with their serves. Are the conditions windy again?

It's quite windy out there, but I'm not sure that's the reason for the poor serving. The last two games have been pretty much serve dominated, so probably no real reason for it - it's not that unusual for low first serve percentages, and these guys are both decent returners.
6-5 Wawrinka now, Chela to serve to take us into the tiebreak.
SG, there should be a 'Post icons' box just above the 'Add reply' button... beware, it's addictive

Go for it, that'd be great thank, but make sure it's my signature smiley........
Tiebreak, Stan leads 1-0*
Scotsguy - September 4, 2007 05:17 PM (GMT)
Stan gets the first mini-break :D

I thought it was customary for the anti-Fed brigade to call Wawrinka the "real Swiss No. 1" . . . ;)
Scotsguy - September 4, 2007 05:23 PM (GMT)
Hmmm, Stan went 3-1 up, then Chela went 5-3 up. Now it's 5-5....
Oooh Stan gets another mini-break *6-5
Scotsguy - September 4, 2007 05:25 PM (GMT)
Chela saves the set point, 6-6
Does either player want to win this

I was talking in all-time terms. Marc Rosset is of course the Swiss no. 1, for his outstanding achievements in the Era of Lions.
Chela comes from 3-1 down to go 5-3 up, then goes 6-5 down with a set point against him on the Wawrinka serve, but saves it.
Scotsguy - September 4, 2007 05:26 PM (GMT)
Damnit Chela wins set 3....
Wise_Analyst - September 4, 2007 05:28 PM (GMT)
From 6-6, Chela hits a fantastic forehand return winner and then aun unreturnable serve to take it 8-6. Vamos!
However, Stan the Man has come from 2 sets to 1 down twice already this tournament, including against Ginepri last round. Does he have the energy to do it again?
Nick Havoc - September 4, 2007 05:31 PM (GMT)
Meanwhile, Moya is in a tight first set with the Latvian No. 1. 5-5 and deuce on Gulbis' serve.
Nick Havoc - September 4, 2007 05:52 PM (GMT)
Stan goes a double-break up in the 4th set. Looks like this will likely be another 5-setter.
Scotsguy - September 4, 2007 05:52 PM (GMT)
Stan a double break up in the 4th set *4-1:D
Moya won the opening set against Gulbis 7-5 and is winning the second *3-0
Pebs - September 4, 2007 05:55 PM (GMT)
I have to keep checking my predicts to remind myself who I am cheering for...
Scotsguy - September 4, 2007 05:58 PM (GMT)
Stan wins set 4 breaking Chela three times to win it 6-1.

Hope it doesn't make for as irritating reading as mine do... for some reason I went for a Gulbis win over Moya  and Wawrinka's continuing his one man mission to ruin my chances. And as for the doubles... :moody:

Is that Stan in yet another 5 set epic?
The guy has the stomach for a battle, it has to be said!! :D
Go Stan!! :)
petalp - September 4, 2007 06:03 PM (GMT)
Oh.. and go Mr Pennetta too :)

lucky for me I have the memory of a goldfish, by the time I have got from the thread with my predictions to the score thread I have forgotten
I think Chela and Moya are my main guys right now though :)

They've split up haven't they?
Moya is probably the best player to get through in terms of tournament quality though - assuming Djokovic gets past Monaco, he would probably see off Gulbis pretty easily... Moya on the other hand has a good H2H over him and recently beat him in Cinci. Should be a good match.
Moya two sets up now... and comeback king Stan already a break up in the decider.

:moody: Stan.... c'mon Chela!
Nick Havoc - September 4, 2007 06:12 PM (GMT)
Chela breaks straight back.

I didn't know that they'd split up! :o
always seemed like a nice couple too. Esp Flavia..
Is good to have Moya looking like he is on his way through.. he'll provide a good challenge to the Djoker, as you mentioned
Nick Havoc - September 4, 2007 06:15 PM (GMT)
Don't count Moya in yet, though. I expect he'll win, but Gulbis did just grab his first break of the match to go 2-0 up in the third.
Wise_Analyst - September 4, 2007 06:27 PM (GMT)
Moya breaks back - so far, nothing too problematic here for him, which surprises me. Gulbis beat Robredo in straight sets in the last round, so I thought he'd at least give Moya a huge scare, and quite possibly beat him.
Chela and Wawrinka 3-3 in the fifth.
petalp - September 4, 2007 06:36 PM (GMT)
Stan in a spot of bother in the 5th.. a break down, trailing 3-4..
Scotsguy - September 4, 2007 06:38 PM (GMT)
Stan has the brightest nose in tennis
Scotsguy - September 4, 2007 06:45 PM (GMT)
Stan saves a MP on his own serve.
Chela with a chance to serve it out at *5-4
Wise_Analyst - September 4, 2007 06:46 PM (GMT)
Wawrinka saves a match point on his own serve but now Chela will have the chance to serve it out. From a break up early on in the fifth, the Swiss just seemed to fall away - probably a bit of fatigue given his previous antics in the tournament. Can he find one last burst of energy?
Moya and Gulbis into a third set tiebreak. If the Latvian can take this one, who knows? Moya's has two tough battles in his last two matches and may well also succumb to tiredness. Gulbis on the other hand hadn't lost a single set before today. :yikes:
Scotsguy - September 4, 2007 06:51 PM (GMT)
GSM Chela 4-6 6-2 7-6 1-6 6-4

Scotsguy - September 4, 2007 06:52 PM (GMT)
Gulbis wins the third set against Moya.
Nick Havoc - September 4, 2007 06:52 PM (GMT)
Set point to Gulbis in the tiebreak: *6-5
Edit: SG is obviously a bit ahead of my live scoreboard. :D
9mmSuzi - September 4, 2007 08:18 PM (GMT)
Djoko leads Monaco 5-4 first round.......exchange of breaks so far :)
