Title: Day 6 - Saturday 1st September

Wise_Analyst - September 1, 2007 03:12 PM (GMT)
Matches of the day for me are Koubek vs Blake and Murray vs Lee.

The Blake match might sound like a foregone conclusion, but Koubek has absolutely annihilated Querrey and Llodra to get this far, which is no mean feat. Blake stuttered past a cramping Santoro in the last round, but at least ended his 5 set hoodoo. This should give him the confidence to get through, but it won't be easy - I fancy the Austrian to bag a set.

Murray vs Lee is also a tough one to call, with Lee finding some very impressive form this week. It's hard to tell how well Murray's playing - I can't see him losing to Lee, but I think like Blake, he will drop a set.

Davydenko vs Almagro also has the potential to be interesting, although judging by the Russian's mauling of the dangerous Kiefer, it might not be. That one's just started - the Spaniard leads 2-1 on serve.

is there something about todays matches making you particularly angry?

No - I only just noticed the option to add a smiley to the header, and it amused me. Boys with toys, eh?

Although a Blake bottle-job after finally winning a 5 setter would annoy me quite a bit - as would a Murray loss, in fact.

:lmaao: fair enough, as long as you are enjoying yourself.

I think a Blake five setter would upset us both - lets hope that doesnt happen eh?

enjoy the tennis :)

Almagro got off to a good start against Davydenko, but the Russian groundstroke machine has pulled things back, its now 4-5, Davydenko serving. Would expect Davydenko to win here.

Federer v Isner will be more straightforward for Federer than some pundits on the BBC 606 boards have been suggesting.

Murray v Lee - interesting match - Lee seems to be in the form of his life, but I think Murray will be OK here.

Pebs - September 1, 2007 03:55 PM (GMT)
wouldnt mind finding a stream for the Murray match - wish I had sky sports

I hope you are right ... I have a somewhat queasy feeling about this one, although Roger's recent good form have calmed me somewhat.

Now, I will be playing in a concert tonight, probably around the same time Roger is on. Now, the last two times that this happened, and I wore my special "tennis" bowtie for the occasion, Roger ended up losing unexpectedly ...

Good thing I'm not superstitious, or I wouldn't wear it again tonight ... :P

and for all those who are superstitious and hoping you dont wear your special bowtie.... I suggest you dont tell them that you did if he loses...

MrInvisible - September 1, 2007 04:06 PM (GMT)
Bowtie or no bowtie, Federer thrives against big servers. Look at this record against Roddick, Karlovic, Philippoussis and other big servers. Expect a first set tie-break, then Federer breaking early in 2nd and 3rd sets.

I didn't expect a bagel in this match ... perhaps the controversy about the betting is not so bad for him, after all ... giving him extra motivation?

And "apparently weaponless" Kolya "going great guns" again, up a break in the third.

He's really giving Amalgro a bit of a working over here...

petalp - September 1, 2007 05:39 PM (GMT)
Kolya beats Amalgro in straight sets 7-5, 6-0, 7-5

Yes. I'd noticed. How very dare he..

Didn't surprise me at all the first set went to a tie-break though.. and then it can be a bit of a lottery..

I'd suggest that the sleeping gient wakes up to topple the actual giant though..

And so Fed does, breaking Isner in the first game of the second set :)
