For some stupid reason the draw isn't up on the USO website but as soon as it's up I'll post the link.

The matches in action today are:

Golovin/ B. Bryan vs Morariu/ Delic
Huber/ Murray vs Santangelo/ Hanley [4]
Black/ Matowski [9] vs Radwanska/ Fyrstenberg
Kirilenko/ Andreev vs Dechy/ Ram

Tough first match for Murray and Huber, they'll really have to gel well if they want to beat the #4 seeds. Not sure if they'll manage it though!

Dinky Jo - August 29, 2007 10:25 AM (GMT)
yeah, stupid US Open website

Some interesting teams there - Bob Bryan and Golovin, Kirilenko and Andreev.

Fingers crossed for Murray.......

Another interesting pairing is Mirza/ Bhupathi. Not sure whether they'll be seeded or not?

Quite a few interesting pairings there! Raymond and Zimonjic are the #1 seeds followed by Mike Bryan and Molik.

Always room for upsets in the mixed though!

By the way, another thing I've just learnt is that there's no third set in the mixed, it's the championship tiebreak. At least we have deuce and advantage though ( I think! )

So far the second slam in the row the top seeds are out. (Think #1 at Wimbledon were Bryan/Raymond).

Anyone know why Perry/Stubbs retired?

Once again, it shows that mixed doubles is anyone's game.

Shame about Likhovtseva and Nestor as this is probably going to be Elena's last slam and it woud have been nice for her to end on a high....though I guess they did win this years Australian together so she her career will end rather well :)

Ah, I knew she'd been thinking of retiring for some time now but didn't realise this would be her last slam. She's done tennis a great service over the years.

Well I'm assuming it's her last slam as she was planning on retiring at the end of 2006 but Daniel Nestor convinced her to play the Australian Open with him so I guess after that success she decieed to do one more year.

She will probably be remembered for her doubles, but her singles play was also rather impressive - QF Australian Open 2000 (defeating Serena Williams in 4rd), SF Roland Garros 2005, QF Wimbledon 2002 (defeating Kim Clijsters en route) and 4rd US Open 94, 99, 01, 03, 05. Reached a career high of 15 in singles back in 1999 and number 3 in doubles in 2004. She won 3 singles titles (2004 - Forest Hills; 1997 - Gold Coast; 1993 - Montpellier), 27 doubles titles, 2 Mixed Grand Slam titles....not a bad career...oh and she was pretty much the leader of the Russian revival of tennis along with Anna K :) Elena I salute you

Nice summation RF!!

I like Elena too. I've seen her play live and always enjoyed her game. She handles herself so wonderfully on and off court too.

She also suffered the ignomity of being beaten by Vera Z twice in one day earlier this week, in singles and women's doubles..

She is certainly one of the low-key, more underappreciated players in the women's game, and the game will poorer without her imo.

That will be a pairing accorded pop-star/ demi-god status in India, no doubt.. And one that will certainly not pull its punches either..

Im wondering how long Lisa Raymond is going to be around as well. I wouldn't write her off, but imo it looks like her best days are starting to pass.......

Does she really need the money?

Obviously she may still play for the love of the game, but she's had a very long and successful singles and doubles career.

Yeah, I know. She finished playing singles back in Feb I think. She said in her New Haven blog that she wasn't sure how many more times she'd play but thought she had a couple of years left.

Agreed :ok:

Another great doubles player retired after her loss in the mixed this week too, Paola Suarez. 39 doubles titles- 32 of which were with Ruano Pascual which included included the French Open on four occasions, the US Open three times and the Australian Open in 2004 (sadly no Wimbledon though!).

She did well in singles too - 4 WTA titles and a semi final at the French in 2004!

Great stuff, hope she has a good retirement!

MissSospanFach - September 4, 2007 01:50 PM (GMT)
Btw, in case everyone is wondering why the mixed semis are on today, apparently it's a Thursday final!

so they played the quarters yesterday, the semis today and the final on Thursday????

The US Open scheduling is a bit weird though.......

Yeah, it's bizarre. I'd imagine that, as a player, you'd want to play on the final on the last two days! Wimbledon was probably still in the first round of the mixed at this point!
