The Draw is out!

MissSospanFach - August 27, 2007 08:48 AM (GMT)
Stretch and Booty are seeded 16 but unfortunately for them face a 3rd round match (if they get that far!) against #2 seeds Knowles and Nestor! Other pairings in this bottom half include Wimbledon champs Clement/Llodra, Hanley/Ullyett and Bjorkman/Mirnyi.

The top half of the draw should be interesting with seeds including Bhupathi/Zimonjic, the Bryans, Erlich/Ram and Damm/Paes.

Top- half matches start today.

Not sure. It was the first Wednesday at Wimbledon I think so I'm guessing it will be about the same time for the USO.

Some quite interesting first round match ups here:

the number 4 seeds Damn/Paes get to play Benneteau/Mahut - not sure about Mathut's form on hard courts, but i don't think this is the easiest match for the Damn/Paes

Bhupathi/Zimonijc have got the Russians Tursunov/Kunitsyn in the first round. I think these two have been playing a fair amount of doubles together over the last few months, so they could challenge the 6th seeds here.

Grosjean/Tipsarevic have been drawn against the polish 12th seeds FYRSTENBERG / MATKOWSKI - these guys can be a bit inconsistent i think, so if Grosjean/Tipsarevic have a good day they could pull off a win here i reckon.

And the 2nd seeds (who will meet Butorac/Murray in the 3rd round) Knowles/Nestor are playing baghdatis/Wawrinka in the 1st round. i wonder whether Baggy will be looking to make amends for his singles loss yesterday?

Looking at Knowles/Nestor's draw it's not that easy really:

Baggy/Wawrinka, then possibly Vliegen/Allegro, then Butorac/Murray, then the Wimby champs Clement/Llodra in the quarters - with various teams capable of making it to the semis to meet them, including the third seeds Bjorkman/Miryni.

At first glance, the Bryan Brothers draw looks easier.......

Dinky Jo - August 28, 2007 11:16 AM (GMT)
ok, quick correction - according to the draw Knowles/Nestor are playing baggy/wawrinka in the first round. according to the OOP released today, they're playing Azzaro/Volandri

vivahate - August 28, 2007 12:25 PM (GMT)

Nice to see Kuerten competing. They'll have a tough match against Melo and Sa though!

Re: Baghdatis and Warwinka- I assume they must have pulled out? Maybe Baggy just wanted to get out of NYC after his first round loss?

eeerm, have the men's doubles always been best of 3 at the US Open?

Is it best of 5 at all the other slams???

Think all the other slams have been like that for a while now  that's why Wimbledon is the best!

Lol, great minds! Just found that out too but have still set up the MD thread.

vivahate - August 29, 2007 02:01 PM (GMT)
good start for knowles/nestor. their likely quarter opponents would be clement/llodra, and i like the frenchmen's chances. solid on the hardcourts - as well as the dip in form from the no. 2 seeds since the french is fairly noticeable.

I'm confused, the USO website said that AUckland lost but the BBC website said that they won????

MissSospanFach - August 30, 2007 09:54 AM (GMT)
I don't think they won, I was watching the livescore last night. I got my results of the beeb this morning and they said he'd lost.

Dinky Jo - August 30, 2007 09:59 AM (GMT)
No big shocks there then......Murray senior in action today :ok:

MissSospanFach - August 30, 2007 10:05 AM (GMT)
Yep, I saw their opponents (Behrend/Mayer) play at Wimbledon this year and they played the most boring doubles match I've ever seen so fingers crossed for Stretch and Booty! :ok:

MissSospanFach - August 30, 2007 05:52 PM (GMT)
Damm/Paes won't be defending their title as they've just lost 7-6 3-6 4-6.

to Benneteau and Mahut i see - i did wonder if they could be a dangerous pairing - just wasn't sure of their hardcourt form.

i see Mr Tursunov is out of the doubles as well

Scotsguy - August 30, 2007 06:53 PM (GMT)
Jamie M is on court, he and Booty are currently 2-1 up (on serve) in the first set.
