Venus vs mattek: Mattek reached the semis of cincinatti last year, but is not in the same league as the defending champion. Venus is on! :D :yahoo:

Sharapova vs Smashnova, what a complete mis-match that is roflmao Anna absolutely hates grass with a passion.

LDF - June 27, 2006 07:35 PM (GMT)
Mirza v Dementieva is quite an interesting match...

Sania has been in poor form recently, but you just never know what to expect from Elena

Buttercup - June 27, 2006 07:41 PM (GMT)
Amelies on the GRAVEYARD court! :o

Queen Justine - June 27, 2006 11:05 PM (GMT)
So is Justine

Some of those matches look like they could go the distance though so she may not play at all. I guess they feel that after how well she played yesterday Henin might sweep through this match pretty quickly.

Am surprised Amelie is on court 2 rather than Maria. Bit disrespectful towards the world number 1.

Playing really well apparently so that's good.

Venus & Sharapova on the verge of finishing their matches very easily so looks like the 4 most likely winners are all on good form (Venus, Maria, Justine & Amelie)

Buttercup - June 28, 2006 01:26 PM (GMT)
Amelie played really well, i was watching it over the internet.
Couldnt believe how quick the points where.
She was coming into the net alot more as well. :D

Wow Venus what an athlete. I think Venus overall is probably the best server on this surface of the current field. last lear it was Davenport, but i feel Venus is setting the serving standard this year. 116+mph serves consistently and at the body, which is going to be excellent against any player. Moving well also, and displaying some of her trademark forehand drive-volleys. Excellent performance by the goddess.

Also mauresmo- just great :ok:

sir matchstickmen - June 28, 2006 01:51 PM (GMT)
BBC you are fools!

There was a cracking comeback going on from Lopez against Ljubicic - he's about to level at two sets all, so what do they do? Take that match off! and leave Alan Mackin on!

sir matchstickmen - June 28, 2006 02:14 PM (GMT)
I thought Venus was playing pretty well against an opponent who wasn't afraid to mix things up and gve her different problems. Her serve was marvellous!

No discredit to Amelie, but I think she played the weakest player in the draw today in Abramovic, she was so ruthless though and she was playing it like an exhibition. And it took just 39 minutes!

Maria also had an easy win, Smashnova hadn't the power or the will to cause her any problems, and Maria was hitting crunching winners all over the place AND trying to get to the net when she could (don't ask obout some of her volleys mind! roflmao )!

Nick Havoc - June 28, 2006 02:43 PM (GMT)
Ljubicic is in a tight match with Lopez. It's now 6-6 in the fifth!

It's a fantastic match, except the stupid BBC took it off interactive just as Lopez levelled it!

And who's on instead? Mackin and Melanie South, two brits with no hope or relevance to the tournament!

How annoying!

Well, it's 8-7 now (on serve) in the Ljubicic match.

Golovin just broke to go up 8-7 in the third against Diaz-Oliva.

Ken001 - June 28, 2006 03:16 PM (GMT)
Ljubo has just won 11-9 in the fifth set!

Nick Havoc - June 28, 2006 03:52 PM (GMT)
There seemed to be a delay in the Mackin v Baggy match. Did someone have an injury time-out?

Nick Havoc - June 28, 2006 03:55 PM (GMT)
Meanwhile, Blake won the first set of his match 6-4. He survived 9 break points against his serve and took advantage of the 1 break point he had on Wang's serve.

Venus was great today LDF, performance of the day IMO along with Federer :D

Maria did get a good win, but probably against the most disastrous grass-court player ever in smashnova roflmao

Well two Brit girls beat Schivone and Domachowska so I hear, so that si good.

Sadly Tim was steamrollered, and Mackin threw it away but I do feel that Baghi's breaks did nto help him. Injured yeah, but piss taking IMO.

Venus looked good, Kuzzy is in troubel though!

Roddick took a long time to beat Tipsarevic, and I love Tipsi's face jewellery - he looks well hard he does. A bi tliek my brother in law, only he is blonde and blue eyed rather than dark, but still has the scary piercings. :D

I thought it made a change and was quite funky LDF. Those swocks take me back a bit :D

Well, I personally am not a fan of the outfit, but credit to her for having the guts to wear it :)

I would not say I was a fan, just thought it was a change. I'm nto fashion expert but isn;t that kind of stuff makign a comeback? Will we have player sin legwarmers and footless tights like the 80s as I see people weraing them now! :D May I say I NEVER wore either, I went for loud tights in various patterns instead. :D

dl04 - June 28, 2006 06:49 PM (GMT)
Did everyone love Venus's outfit? I thought it looked very classy :D

I hope safina can pull that match out, i love to see her play and peform well.

LDF - June 28, 2006 06:51 PM (GMT)
Safina's a break down in the 3rd...

Justine is through comfortably, beating Bychkova 6-1 6-2, and Martina is 3-0 up in the first set against Garbin. :)

Yes dl, Venus' outfit was great :D

LDF - June 28, 2006 06:52 PM (GMT)
Peschke's just handed Kuznetsova the break with a backhand error...

Sveta now leads 4-3 in the final set.

I think its better than maria's as well :D roflmao

I'm thoroughly enjoying Kuznetsova vs Peschke, both girls trading at the baseline with some very well-timed and daring hitting. Kuzty isnt playing that well, but her serving has been exceptional and if she progresses through the tournament, that deceptively powerful but also varied serve could prove a big factor. I love her kick second serve, just great technique.

Kveta is playing well, but she's very sporadic. she hits some wonderful winners off both wings, but she does mix in some dismal shots as well, there's inconsistency that really does get her undone against the top players.

LDF - June 28, 2006 07:01 PM (GMT)
With her abbreviated service motion, Sveta can disguise the direction and spin of her serve more than other players. As you say dl, her kick serve is excellent.

Kveta's forehand in particular is quite error-strewn, but you'd expect that considering how flat she hits the ball. When she's on form though, she can play extremely well.

LDF - June 28, 2006 07:04 PM (GMT)
And Sveta is through - nice way to finish, a thumping forehand drive-volley :D

Yep bravo Sveta :D

I see the Scud is in another marathon on court 18........its almost mark's trademark roflmao

Hingis is cruising also.............6-1 :D

LDF - June 28, 2006 07:16 PM (GMT)
Martina

Though I don't want her to win the title, I think I've told you why...

LDF - June 28, 2006 07:30 PM (GMT)
Such a great atmosphere in the Martina match :D

BETHANIE'S OUTFIT APPROVED BY VENUS

See look venus the fashion icon herself likes it, so I must have soemthign right in my judgement: :D

Quoted form news article on Wimbledon Website:

" She looked really cute," approved Williams – high praise from someone with their own fashion house and interior design business. "Bethanie is always coming out with some kind of new outfit. That was a very 70s-inspired look with the little running shorts and knee high socks. That's real American apparel right now. I really liked the socks. I want some too. I have ones in different colours at home which I wear, but maybe I should follow her example and wear some on court too."

JymJilly - June 28, 2006 10:34 PM (GMT)
I posted on the wrong thread but rather than repeat about the awful ladies matches today I would just like to say the fashion was far more interesting than the Tennis played.

I liked Bethanie's outfit too.. had a bit of a retro collegiate look?

My favourite item was her headscarf. Had the same feel fashion-wise as Fed's Jacket :)

Mind you, both Bethanie and Venus were rivalling each other in terms of length of earrings!!!
:D
