Title: Ronaldo makes history!

Hiromiku - June 27, 2006 05:17 PM (GMT)
With his goal against Ghana, Ronaldo now is officially a legend

Mkkreuk - June 27, 2006 07:00 PM (GMT)
Legend overused word in my books.

Ronaldo - Record Breaker? Yes. Legend? No.

Legends - Pele, Maradonna, Cruyff, Eusebio, (arguably Garrincha) et al...THEY are legends....tubby boy rates below them.

True - I kinda exagerated...
Still, he's a great goalscorer.

Yup :ok:

Just thought i'd get my view across :)

Defintiely right Mkk - I think Ronaldo is a legend in a sort of way, like the great German Gerd Muller!

And the way he has risen his game at the world cups is quite something! :D

Mkkreuk - June 28, 2006 07:45 AM (GMT)
I would have said Ronaldo was a legend if he had played the way he did in the early to mid 90s or 2002 at this world cup. If he had slimmed down and created more for the team as a whole (and also scored goals against proper defences ...no offence intended there) then there would have been a case making it onto "the list". He definitely has to rate as a great - maybe JUST below a player like Zico?

and a great german? Surely that cant be right! (im just joking - i know who he is - his goals to game ratio is amazing :yikes: )

Hiromiku - June 28, 2006 08:19 AM (GMT)
Zico has such class...

Well I think you have to look at Ronaldo as a pure goalscorer - only two players in history have really married together the team play and the goals - Pele and Maradona.

Ronaldo at France 98 was just incredible until the final - he looked like he could tke a side on by himself!

btw France 98 was still the best world cup that i've seen, although this one has been pretty good! :D

The 2002 one was exciting, but could've been better IF ONLY it was corruption-free

Mkkreuk - June 28, 2006 09:09 AM (GMT)
The 2002 was the worst ive seen in my lifetime (ok i know its been short). I like upsets and all but there were a few too many and it just made brazils passage a bit too easy and there seemed a lack of competition...this one could be one of the great WC depending on how things go in the next round.

sir matchstickmen - June 28, 2006 09:11 AM (GMT)
Do you remember the 98 one that well mkk? That was an amazing tournament, there were so many open games in it!

I wasn't really bothered by that, it's just the CORRUPTION!

I loved Japan's dramatic qualification :D
Although the finals
TBH, we weren't bad.
0-1 against Argentina.
0-1 against Croatia.

No shame in that. Especially that Croatia made it 3rd that year.

But...
I wouldn't want to talk about the other match

that'll be the 2-1 reverse against Jamaica! roflmao

Let's be honest, from what i've seen in the last few years, the best Asias team in the competition is undoubtedly South Korea. No offence, but it's just true. The energy they put into every match is quite incredible!

I do remember it quite well actually. I can also remember parts of the 94 one as well though not too much. the 98 world cup finals was a good one but i just meant that say if the Semis ended up being Italy vs Argentina & France vs england - for me that would be tough to beat (added to how this one has gone so far)

They shouldn't have gone that far in 2002. They corrupted those refs.

From what ive seen i think they honestly are much better than brazil are being hyped up to be for instnace. I love watching them play these days - and i can only see them losing against germany due to potential home influence for the germans.

There wasn't one bit of corruption from the Japanese.
