Doubles draw

Can you believe it?! Raymond/Davenport face [1]Black/Huber in the first round! Should be very, very interesting!

Well at least it will guarentee an exciting first round! But I'd have rather seen that match up a bit later on in the tourney...

NOOOOO :angry: :angry: :cry: for the sake of the WTA itslf, and the fans, Black and Huber should just tank this match :alert: :alert:

Lol, not sure they'd agree! You never know though, they've got a final to play tonight and need to travel to the tourny so they might be a bit tired!

I still think that Dav and Raymond have a really good chance of winning it, not as if they haven't played together before. No doubt Dav will be fired up for her first match back. Plus Raymond needs the practice as she hasn't played a tournament (excluding WTT) since Wimbledon and will want to get a few rounds under he belt before the US.

Play gets underway today.

Only doubles match on is the Bondarenko sisters against Peschke/Stubbs who won the LA tourny. I'm sure Stubbs will be out for revenge against the Ukranian duo after Ukraine thrashed Australia in the Fed Cup back in July.

Just to let you know that Lisa Raymond is blogging from New Haven this week. She did a blog from the same tournament last year which was one of the best wta blogs of the year so no doubt this one will be worth a read. She gave some good tips on music and ipod downloads last year!

Not sure how long this blog will last though given that she and Dav face the number one seeds tomorrow.

Quite a few doubles matches today. The one we're all interested in i.e. the return of Davenport is scheduled to be 6th on the stadium (i.e. main) court not before midnight BST.

With no play today so far they may not end up playing tonight.

Dav and Raymond are scheduled for the Grandstand court not before 8.30pm BST today (15.30 their time- hope I've worked that one out right!). At least we'll be able to watch the scoreboard at a decent time.

Forecast is for only a 'slight chance of rain' today so hopefully they'll get plenty of play in!

What a relief. I hope LD (as Lisa calls her in her blog) has a winning return to action but realistically it will be a bit of an upset if she does as obviously Black/Huber (Liezel is now an American citizen apparrently!) are unbelievably talented.

It's interesting that Liezel has become an American citizen. She's talked in the past about the possibility of both she and Black becoming American citizens so that they can play together in the Olympics. The other option is that Black's mum is South African so she could get South African citizenship then they play for SA.

It's looking like the American option is favoured which I doubt will go down well with Dav and Raymond!
