Some more - this is courtesy of a poster on WTAWorld (someone who really knows what they are talking about - which is very, very rare on WTAWorld)!

To put Henin's stellar play since 2003 into better perspective, let's look at her record against the top 20 since she began her ascent in 2003.

Henin has a winning record against every player in today's top twenty since her ascent in 2003, with only one exception, Venus Williams (0-1) Jan 2003. - dl will be pleased

Collectively, Henin is (77-18) against today's top 20 since her ascent in the WTA in 2003. That's an 81% winning percentage. She has won more tournaments, more single majors and made it to more finals than anyone in the top 20 since her ascent in 2003. Its largely the reason why Henin is likely to end this year #1, and for the third time in five years.

Henin vs Today's Top 20 Since 2003 (77-18):

Henin v 2 Maria Sharapova (5-2)
Henin v 3 Jelena Jankovic (6-0)
Henin v 4 Ana Ivanovic (2-0)
Henin v 5 Svetlana Kuznetsova (14-2)
Henin v 6 Anna Chakvetadze (2-0)
Henin v 7 Amelie Mauresmo (8-5)
Henin v 8 Serena Williams (4-2)
Henin v 9 Nadia Petrova (10-2)
Henin v 10 Daniela Hantuchova (1-0)
Henin v 11 Marion Bartoli (2-1)
Henin v 12 Martina Hingis (2-0)
Henin v 13 Venus Williams (0-1)
Henin v 14 Dinara Safina (3-0)
Henin v 15 Nicole Vaidisova (3-0)
Henin v 16 Patty Schnyder (6-1)
Henin v 17 Elena Dementieva (4-2)
Henin v 18 Shahar Peer (1-0)
Henin v 19 Tatiana Golovin (2-0)
Henin v 20 Sybille Bammer (2-0)

Not Included (since Henin's ascent in 2003):

Henin v K. Clijsters (8-5)
Henin v L. Davenport (8-0)
Henin v J. Capriati (3-0)
Henin v M. Seles (2-0)

Grand Slam Singles Victories since Henin's Ascent in 2003:

J. Henin (6) Olympic Gold (1)
S. Williams (4)
V. Williams (2)
M. Sharapova (2)
A. Mauresmo (2)
A. Myskina (1)
S. Kuznetsova (1)
K. Clijsters (1)

Weeks at Number One since Henin's Ascent in 2003:

J. Henin (78)
L. Davenport (60)
A. Mauresmo (39)
S. Williams (35)
K. Clijsters (19)
M. Sharapova (14)

Conclusion: Henin may lose small battles along the way, but she's definitely winning the war. Very quietly and without much fanfare, she is slowly weaving the fabric of her legacy.

its amazing she hasnt been at number 1 longer than she has with those stats

She would have Liam, but unfortunately when her "greatness" was starting, she got the virus and was out for nearly a year.

Mind you, in the year that she was out sick, in the middle of it, Belgium asked her to get out of her sick bed and represent them in the Olympics. She hadn't trained or touched a tennis racquet for 3 months. She went and won the Gold Medal. The only time she practised and trained was when she was in Athens. She then played the USO in 2004 a couple of weeks after that and got knocked out by your new fave Nadia and spent the next 5 months in bed with the virus that hadn't left her body during the Olympics and USO.

Even though she stopped playing in April 04 when she was no. 1, she still stayed no. 1 until around November 04. So, to reply to your statement, I'm sure if she didn't get sick, she would have carried on being no. 1 for much, much longer. Since then though, she's been no. 1 on a further 2 occasions.

I knew when I first saw her play and became a fan of hers at the Capriati 2001 SF at Wimbledon that she would be a champion, but I didn't think she'd be this good

I don't think any genuine tennis fan will deny that she is an outstanding player whether they like her or not

I don't understand what Henin's ascent means!!??! Why did you pick 2003? And not 2002 when she broke into the top 10? Or even 1999 when she turned professional?

Cause surely taking the stats from when she is playing the nest tennis of her life makes them look better than they are in her overall career?

when people criticise Justine, its rarely her tennis they are criticising, these stats prove just how dominant she has been, moreso than i believed
