Title: favourite doubles team

liam_valid - August 17, 2007 05:54 PM (GMT)
who is your favourite doubles team?

when Mary and Lindsay teamed up it was great fo me because they were my 2 fave singles players, but the best long term partneship for me was Fernanez and Zvereva. Not only were they great together as players, but their fiendship shone though on the court and it made great viewing, especially Zvereva, she always looked so happy, even when Steffi routed her in '88 she was smiling thoughout :)

The first team I remember watching and thinking that they played really well was the Raymond/Stubbs pairing so I think I'd say them.

Suarez/Pascual were always fun to watch with their smiling and laughing!

Not a team, but I watched Navratilova play in her second wind at doubles and was in awe of her reflexes at the net!

I dont like Navvy, but i loved watching her play, as you say, in her second wind. Its been a great story following her career at the later stages

1. Venus/Serena :D

2. Suarez/Pascal :D

3. Davenport/Morrariu :D

4. Black/Huber- Black has some of the best skills i've ever seen in doubles.

5. Pierce/Davenport :D

Yeah Black is a great player- She's been in the end of year championshop 8 years in a row!

Russiafan - August 17, 2007 06:53 PM (GMT)
I really liked the pairing of Julie Harlard-Decugis and Ai Sugiyama and later Clijsters/Sugiyama.

I also was a massive fan of Lina Krasnoroutskaya/ Elena Dementieva who took out the Williams Sisters in a dramatic 3rd round encounter at Wimbledon back in 04 or 03....shame Lina had to get injured...then pregnant...she's now a tv presenter for Russian tv.

MissSospanFach - August 17, 2007 06:56 PM (GMT)
Yeah, Sugi is a great doubles player and has had quite a few successful partnerships- the one with Clijsters being the best I think!

Yeah they were really good but they didn't play after 2003 (I think). I guess Kimmy had tasted being number 1 and was focusing on her singles career from then on which is a shame but with her injury prone body I guess it was a sensible move.

Ai is such a compact player and has been as high as number 8 in singles - she has also reached the QF stage at Wimbledon and Australian, and I think 4th round at the other two. She really proves that you can do well in both disciplines...as do Stosur and Likhovtseva :)

I've seen vids of them Liam, i always liked Zvereva as a singles player. Gigi had a wondeful backhand volley as i recall and a bit of a temper roflmao

I've also seen some clips of Vicario/Novotna when they won Wimby in 1995 :D

Fraid so! I saw Novotna play at Wimbledon back in the early 1990s and remember enjoying watching Sanchez Vicario play but wasn't really old enough to fully appreciate the skill etc that is involved in tennis.

Hmm that's a tough one! I saw them win Wimbledon in, I think, 2002.

SerenaW19 - August 19, 2007 08:41 PM (GMT)
Yes you did

They haven't won a Grand Slam together since 2003 unfortunately :(

They did play and win one match this year at Wimbledon, so that's something I suppose

well she missed nearly five years of it though :P (if ya count half of 02 and half of 07)

and venus only looks capable of winning wimbledon every two years, everywhere else she is rubbish roflmao

yeah, but they were 50/1, dementieva 60/1, hingis 66/1, hantuchova 100/1 and your favourite schnyder was 100/1 too roflmao

seriously what do they base it on? it wouldn't be the rankings

no suprises that henin is the favourite

dl04 - August 20, 2007 02:59 PM (GMT)
They probably based it on current form and hingis's recent inuries Obliv. hingis would've been much higher usually :)

I dont think henin should be regarded as the huge fav, the US Open has never been her best slam. She's certainly not as well equipped to win there as she is at the French. And sharapova at 11/2

I like venus's odds though :D

ObL!v!0N - August 20, 2007 03:02 PM (GMT)
i reckon kuznetsova might do it, and 27/1 appeals to me B)

i would fancy putting a cheeky £1 on hingis :P

i think if hingis gets a decent draw, which doesn't look likely as she's 17th atm, then she could get to the second week :)
