Title: Who should be Jamie Murray's new partner?
Description: With Stretch and Booty coming to an....

With Stretch and Booty over, who should Jamie team up with next on a permenant basis?

Mahesh Bhupathi was the man of choice for Cincinatti. They are into the second round where they face the Bryans...Mahesh is a well known doubles player and will probably have a lot to teach Jamie.

Tim and Jamie are a potential DC pairing, but with Tim's days looking numbered in singles, would he do a Martina Nav and continue in doubles?

Andy and Jamie have had success together in the past, but Andy always prioritises singles so looks an unlikely long term candidate.

Boggo showed at Wimbey in mixed with Mel South that he has some doubles talent and with his singles career flagging maybe this would be a chance for him to shine??

Or what about Knowles or Nestor now they have parted ways? (right?) Or someone else, I mean Eric Butorac was a bit of an unknown quantity before teaming up with Jamie....

Dinky Jo - August 16, 2007 06:50 PM (GMT)
Tim and Jamie would be good ( i reckon at least one other person might agree with me  ) but i dunno if Tim is just getting a bit too injury-prone to be a reliable candidate.

I think the knowles/nestor partnership may be the best candidates......have they actually broken up now???

Great post RF, you read my mind! :ok:

I've always thought Tim should have played more doubles but I'm not sure he'd work with Jamie (aside from Davis Cup if needs be) as their strengths are similar and Jamie needs someone who covers his weakness and vice vera. Also, not sure how Tim's back will hold up in the long term :(

Tbh I think he thinks he's too good for the likes of Boggo now, which he probably is.

I think his best bet is to team up with an established doubles player who knows the ropes and can teach Jamie a thing or two.

I know I've said it before, but I'd like to see him see how it goes with Knowles, though he isn't getting any younger either.

Well I was looking through and saw that this issue had sort of been raised before but the main focus of that thread was about the split so I thought let's draw attention to the new forum by asking the big and obvious question.

DJ - I have to agree with Miss SF on the Tim suggestion, I'm not sure they'd work so well as a team.

Miss SF - I guess you're right about Boggo, it's just I really want him to step up and shine at some point...ah well. I'll always have a soft spot for the under appreciated Brits.

I bet after all this hype he'll choose someone we never even contimplated!

Btw, anyone had any luck in finding out if Booty and Stretch are playing together at the US. I suppose it wouldn't make sense now but that's what the website says!

you never know??? does anyone know if knowles/nestor have definitely gone their separate ways???

I think so, the last things I can find on the matter are:

Tennis Channel website (Knowles during Wimbledon) - 'All the tabloids are going crazy - pushing the Paris Hilton news to the back pages - with the news that Dan and I might be severing our partnership after Wimbledon. It's obviously a sensitive subject as we're currently playing some of our best tennis, but Dan has been thinking about playing with Serbian Nenad Zimonjic. Complicating matters is that Zimonjic is currently playing with Fabrice Santoro so it's a bit of a sticky situation. Maybe we should've started rumors of a breakup many years ago, since we haven't lost since this news broke. We're both actually very focused on the job at hand and are preparing for a deep run here at Wimbledon. (Of course if I do need a new doubles partner, I'm going straight to Roger Federer to see if he is bored with singles and is ready for another challenge.)'

Nestor during Queen's ( from globesports.com)- "Ideally, the best thing to do is talk to him [Zimonjic] and then play [with Knowles] through the end of the summer [Montreal, Cincinnati and the U.S. Open] and then see where we stand."

The muddy waters could be clearer in a day or two. "I've got to talk to Nenad," Nestor said. "He's coming for the qualies [the Wimbledon qualifying] and I'll probably go and watch the Canadians [Frank Dancevic and Frédéric Niemeyer] play and try and meet up with him.

"A lot depends of their [Zimonjic and partner Fabrice Santoro] relationship, too. If they're getting along and Santoro is willing to keep playing until the end of the U.S. Open, it probably makes sense to go down that route. We're both playing well and we're both going to go to Shanghai [year-end Masters Cup in November]."

Erm well Knowles and Nestor played Montreal together last week so I guess for now they still are a pairing...though for how long? Maybe they're waiting until the end of the season as I guess they have a good chance of making the Masters thing-y at the end of the year as a team.

Dinky Jo - August 16, 2007 07:39 PM (GMT)
yeah, this is the problem - the race is done by teams, so if they split up now, they won't have time to get the points in their new teams to go go to Shanghai  surely it'd make sense to stick it out to the end of the year?

MissSospanFach - August 16, 2007 07:40 PM (GMT)
Apologies for the length of these, but I just found one from late July on sacbee.com and I think the split is defo.

"Obviously, I was a bit stunned and probably mystified," said Knowles, who clearly remains hurt but still considers Nestor a friend. "It came out of left field. We were ranked third in the world at the time and having a pretty good season.

"It was not the normal time of the season to split. Usually, it's at the end of the year. I was disappointed that he had spoken to someone else with no regard to our commitment."

In June, Knowles and Nestor won consecutive titles in the French Open on clay and at Queen's on grass in London, beating the top-ranked team of Bob and Mike Bryan in the final of the latter. Oops.

Knowles said Nestor "probably lost faith in our partnership. We had two or three relatively bad weeks, and automatically he wanted to go a different direction. Subsequent events lead you to believe he panicked. You expect your partner and friend to be with you when times are tough."

It also irked Knowles that Nestor said publicly that Knowles doesn't serve hard enough.

"I would never sell him out to the press or another player," Knowles said. "Our relationship is sacred in my eyes. It's obviously not twofold."

Nestor said he regrets the timing but not necessarily the decision.

"We were struggling for a couple of months and the last year and a half more than normal. We're not getting any younger, and with the scoring changes implemented on the tour (super tiebreakers have replaced third sets in some tournaments), the serve becomes much more important," Nestor said.

Knowles is considering teaming with India's Mahesh Bhupathi (four Grand Slam men's doubles titles), France's Michael Llodra (three), South Africa's Wesley Moodie (one) or Florida resident Mardy Fish (none).

aw bless Knowles...he sounds like a jilted lover :P

SuperBRAT - August 16, 2007 09:03 PM (GMT)
I'd like to see him pair up with Jonas Bjorkman, bu tthat si unlikely. Jonas and Mirnyi have had a few bad losses of late though, like today.

Bhupati is an excllent choice, and experinced player is better. With respect ti Henman, who i would like to see play doubles, he is nto the best and most reliable doubles player. Jamie is looking to eb a doubles specialist so needs likewise to progress. While Tim is still doing sinlges it's nto a good idea.

Anyway i liked Booty. They were a good team.

What would they think if they played together there and won it! (or at least done really well)

We are still planning on playing the US Open together and there is a possibility of a playing a tourney or two in October in the Indoor season.
