Title: BBC Commentary Quips

Henman's most impressive game of the match so far. He whips a forehand passing-shot past Soderling and then fools him with a drop-shot so well disguised it was virtually wearing a false beard and sunglasses.

quite witty!!!

:D

That was a little too easy for Soderling. Henman is failing to threaten the Swede's serve at all.

He paces the court with a scowl on his face that would do credit to teenage tantrum-thrower Andy Murray.

They're on form today!!!

"Better from Henman again. Soderling is now the one whose head has dropped a little. Whilst Henmania is yet to break out,

two middle-aged ladies in Union Jack vests and caps are clapping enthusiastically. One then spoils the effect by yawning like a basking seal."

:D

At last - a precious break for Henman. Soderling loses his concentration and Tim finally takes advantage. As he walks back to his chair, he looks up at the crowd and claps his hand on his racquet - it's not exactly James Brown at the Harlem Apollo, but it gets the crowd in SW19 going."

Yeah, I saw that one, very good!!

The tone of their commentary has changed ever since the Guardian online commentary became popular about 3 years ago (I think that it was cricket that started it?). Now several of the news websites have cottoned on to this too :)

"One game in, and you already fear for Mattek. Venus rattles through her first service game, dropping just one point. Mattek, who designs all her own clothes, is wearing knee-length white socks and tight football shorts. It's a sensational outfit. She looks a little like a young Bette Midler would if she had played midfield for Don Revie's Leeds team of the 1970s."

not really a quip and not from the BBC but anyways shows the competency of commentators

on JCF beating Vicente

"so the veteran spainard beats the young spainard"

Did you hear Peter Fleming during the Nadal/Kendrick match. A lineswoman had to swerve to miss a ball. The camera focussed in on a rather portly lineswoman.

Fleming : "She enjoyed the exercise" :o

Cue muffled laughter in the commentary box. :D
