I missed the replay of the women's final?

Damn it

LDF - June 26, 2006 04:15 PM (GMT)
I see Venus is playing mixed doubles with Bob Bryan :ok:

LDF - June 26, 2006 06:42 PM (GMT)
Less than one hour of play on the opening day

sir matchstickmen - June 26, 2006 06:49 PM (GMT)
I'm happy, I got to see the rerun of the 04 final! :D

I saw last years final again, and, despite the drama that comes with a tight last set, the final did still largely feel flat, and that came out in the crowd too!

You couldn't hear yourself think in Maria's final by comparison! :D

Anyway, just 45 minutes play today :( And Fed is leading against Gasquet and looking imperious...

Oh shut up! roflmao

The response of the crowd after the 25-stroke rally at 15-30 6-7 was hardly flat

Sam, stop fantasising about girls that are way out of your league and start appreciating proper tennis, good lad ;)

dl04 - June 26, 2006 06:58 PM (GMT)
Oh please Sam, the first set of the 04 final was as flat as i've ever seen Serena, hitting about a dozen forehand returns into the net. Serena never really got it together that day, it was bitty as you say.............

The 05 final however was awesome! Watching that re-run today, just made me realise how proud i am to be fans of those american legends. i still got nervous on the matchpoint :yikes: roflmao

The only reason you couldnt hear yourself think in the 04 final is because Maria was grunting so bloody loud

did you read it properly Dav? I did say about the third set if looked closer! roflmao

The first two sets felt like you were in church at times! :D

Anyway, i'd quite like some live play... :(

The first set especially of the 05 final, when both players were making many mistakes, felt very very flat. Just an opinion.

Of course, all supporting players on different sides does distort viewpoints...

dl04 - June 26, 2006 07:03 PM (GMT)
Yeah sam, but did you really think Serena was on-form that day?

The Dav - June 26, 2006 07:03 PM (GMT)
I'm glad you enjoyed the anti-climax that was the '04 final Sam, someone had to roflmao

I've said it before, i'll say it again.

Serena wasn't on form that day, no.

But the reason she wasn't was because Sharapova played such awesome tennis for most of the match that she never got into a rhythm like she usually did. It also hits home again that Maria was playing the best tennis she's ever played that day by a mile!

Fairytale i'd call it!

How many people realistically expected Maria to triumph that day? Probably 1 in 10. I thought she had a chance if she got out of the blocks, but she exceeded even my expectations!

I still believe Serena could have at least pushed that match to the wire had she been playing better. I was waiting for some inspired Serena resistance, and the best we got was a 4-2 lead in the second. Serena's forehand was so fragile that day........

I agree dl, and she was unusually muted that day too, she really lacked the intensity we're used to seeing from her...

We've seen who wins when Serena's got some fire in her belly, AO '05 anyone? :D

dl04 - June 26, 2006 07:27 PM (GMT)
Miami 2004 anyone as well! :D

I think Serena overall just lacked the fire she showed against Mauresmo in the semis...........Serena's experience really should've proved the difference that day.

yes the aussie open 2005 was so gutsy from Serena.........i loved her reaction on matchpoint! :D
