Bartoli has not had much success since reaching the final of Wimbledon - maybe the pressure is getting to her? Martina has another close loss, this time to in form Indian Sania Mirza.
SerenaW19 - August 8, 2007 10:53 AM (GMT)
Oh dear, I still don't think that's a very good loss for Hingis, she has all the experience and after saving match points you woulod think a five time Grand Slam champ would be able to come back.
These are crucial times for Hingis in her "mini-comeback." Her future career could be decided here, she'll be 27 after the US Open, she's not that 16 year old any more.
vivahate - August 8, 2007 12:16 PM (GMT)
with marriage and an up and down season (results and injury) i would not be surprised if this was the last year of the the hingis 'comeback' :( :( :( :( :(
but the lady is playing doubles in l.a. with dani
chokapova - August 8, 2007 10:09 PM (GMT)
Why does Martina keep losing to lower ranked players? :( :yikes:

:coffee: This half of the year is turning out to be pretty uninspiring.....
who would have thought . it started out so well with serena at Aussie Open, now everyone is either injured, being ultra picky about what to play, or is either getting married or pursuing more pleasurable things...
Can't blame anyone...I guess there is more to life than tennis.....
:) they shouldn't expect me to be waiting either when they return and decide to put their act together...
GS2 - August 9, 2007 01:01 PM (GMT)
Dementieva has a pretty solid H2H against Hantuchova - something like 7-3 in her favour. As she's defending champ she'll be up to do well here and has looked good in her first two matches - I'd expect Elena to win this one.
Petrova should make it past Srebotnik though probably not that easily.
Krajicek pushed Sharapova to two tough sets the last time they met and could be tricky here as well.
Ivanovic faces a real test against Safarova - but it depends which Safarova turns up as she remains inconsistent.
If Jankovic is on form she'll beat Bammer who doesn't have the weapons to trouble her but Jankovic hasn't been at her best recently.
Kirilenko & Mirza should continue their revivals with wins over Dulko & Razzano (who did well to get past Peer).
Bondarenko v Azarenka is a battle of the young guns & could go either way.
vivahate - August 9, 2007 01:23 PM (GMT)
safarova to pull the upset over ivanovic
MissSospanFach - August 9, 2007 07:48 PM (GMT)
Seems like there's a lot of illness going around the tour at the mo...
Daniliidou was giving Sharapova a run for her money til she had to retire because of a virus causing her breathing difficulties (she hadn't even picked up a racket since the previous round).
Jankovic has been ill and on medication and hadn't practiced for four days (admittedly she won!).
Apparently there are quite a few more players who have caught this virus.
In addition, Vaidisova looks like missing the US Open with glandular fever.
Sam Stosur has had rubella/glandula fever symptons that have baffled the doctors and is only starting to practice since her last match at WImbledon.
If this continues and what with quite a few e.g. Mauresmo and Venus pulling out of warm up events for the US there'll hardly be anyone left!! Ok, that's an overstatement but still...
MissSospanFach - August 9, 2007 08:58 PM (GMT)
Hantuchova retires against Dementieva 3-6 1-4 down. Not sure if that one's an injury or illness. The list of retirements continues...
Russiafan - August 9, 2007 09:06 PM (GMT)
Kirilenko dispatches Dulko in 2 sets easily. Go Makiri :D
She has really found her form this month

2. Kirilenko vs. Ivanovic
3. Azarenka vs. Jankovic

That last one should be interesting...and noisy!
9mmSuzi - August 10, 2007 09:14 AM (GMT)
:) Ivanovic Kirilenko should hopefully be a good one... but you'll never can tell...
Certainly a mini - banshee call contest the last one.... but Elena's calls are more pleasing to the ears..... :) doesn't drive potential mates away :)
T01 - August 10, 2007 10:32 AM (GMT)
Come on gilrs there are enough of you to stop Sharapova claiming another title. Go Elena, Nadia, Anna/Jelena.. Someone stop her doubling her prize money at the USO.
GS2 - August 10, 2007 11:09 AM (GMT)
Well Petrova should ease past Razzano - I was surprised by how comfortably Nadia saw off Srebotnik so she seems to be in good form.
Kirilenko has looked so much better lately but I doubt she can continue her run here given how easily Ivanovic saw off Safarova.
Jankovic has been struggling with a cold all week but as long as that doesn't hamper her too much she should take care of Azarenka (who's one to watch in the future though)
Sharapova must be glad she's last on today after that long match against Krajicek - normally I'd favour Maria to beat Elena but Dementieva beat her here last year - seems to like this event and should be the fresher of the two so I'll go for her.
I'd say we're looking at one all Russian & one all Serbian semi final.

there should be 2 ovas and 2 ovics in the semis tomorrow...the one match that could shake things up would obvisouly be match 6. but where's elena's game these days??
what count will be higher, elena's dfs or maria's aces??
i would go for the former as elena's track record speaks for itself and maria's shoulder is still a problem :D :D :D

Elena is so up and down with DFs...against Dani she only hit 1 DF which was less than Dani...but she still had to win two more games to win the match so could have a few more...and she wasn't pressurised as Dani was obviously unwell so...
Sharapova has not hit so many aces this year due to that injury...hopefully both number will be low ;)

I know  There's evidently a little problem there, as her serve isn't the same as it was, but it's obviously not a proper injury!
Wise_Analyst - August 10, 2007 04:45 PM (GMT)
Very impressed by Ana's return from injury - easy win for her against a dangerous opponent. She should beat Kirilenko in the next round, although it won't be easy. Given her excellent form and consistency of late, I see no reason why she can't regain her title from last year - hopefully I won't jinx her with that. :yikes:

Jelena! :(
Oh well, good for Ivanovic to win through!
I do think Ana is a better player than Jelena and it would not surprise me if Ana takes over from Jelena as Serbian number one very soon.
I think Ana has a great shot at beating The Cheat should she meet her in the final. I can't see Nadia winning the semi, she never seems to have the belief she can win when she plays her...

I like Nadia alot but don't think she has the belief to beat The Cheat. She has the ability to do it though so here's hoping! :)
