Only had a brief look at the draw but there are some interesting match-ups....

Murray could play Federer in the third round (if Murray plays and beats ginepri)

Youzhny vs. davydenko - could be mildly interesting, would like to see Youzhny do well :ok:

the other half of the draw looks a little more interesting:

Roddick could get Baggy, Moya or Berdych in the third round :yikes:

Nadal could get Safin in the 2nd round (although based on safin's play recently that won't be as good a match as it could be)

Possibly Nadal vs. Gasquet in the quarters?

mightyjeditribble - August 4, 2007 10:23 PM (GMT)
It looks like a tough draw for Roger. Karlovic, coming off a successful week of tennis (he just went out to Roddick in the semifinals in Washington) is exactly the kind of player that could be dangerous to Roger in a first-round encounter.

If Fed has his serve under control, then he should be fine --- he ought to be able to take advantage of Karlovic's second serves when he gets a look at them. But he's got to be sharp from the first round, after a longish break ... we will see.

Next up would be Andy Murray. Admittedly, Andy is coming off an injury, and needs to get through two matches first, but if he's really fully fit, again this is the kind of early-round encounter that could be dangerous.

The next round would have Blake or Robredo as the main seeds, neither of whom I would really expect to trouble Federer. However, there are plenty of potentially good players in that section of the draw (Hewitt, Ferrero, ...), and whoever comes through will probably be the in-form player.

Nadal's draw, to me, looks much less worrisome --- he has managed to avoid Blake, Berdych, Youzhny in his quarter of the draw, which he should be pleased about. Nonetheless, he will face Marat, or possibly Soderling, in the first match, which might be his toughest challenge until he potentially meets Gasquet in the QF. Seeing as though both of them are about as predictable as next week's weather in London, I don't think he needs to worry all that much. Canas could be an interesting second opponent, but Nadal's proven before that Canas doesn't give him all that much trouble.

Djoko or Roddick in the SF is an interesting prospect for Nadal. If Roger comes through to the semi in his half, I'd expect him to be able to handle anyone who comes through the second quarter, which seems to be the least exciting of the draw.

Matches for the main draw start today, with the final round of the qualifiers also being played.

Qualifiers:

Haase bt Llodra
Falla bt Gabashvilli
Gulbis bt. Goldstein

Still to come in the main draw:

Tursunov vs. Kiefer
Stepanek vs. Bjorkman
Clement vs. Bester

and in the doubles:
Gonzalez/Ljubicic vs. Murray/Blake

MissSospanFach - August 5, 2007 08:30 PM (GMT)
Stepanek d Bjorkman 6-4 6-1
Kiefer d Tursunov 1-6 6-4 6-3 (Wasn't expecting that!)

Murray/Blake are a set all against gonzalez and ljubicic at the mo.

Dinky Jo - August 5, 2007 08:47 PM (GMT)
Tursunov lost?

MissSospanFach - August 5, 2007 08:52 PM (GMT)
Unfortunately so... and he was doing so well in the US Open series table.

Not sure whether there is raining in Montreal or something but the atp live score hasn't updated for a while so the doubles is still a set a piece.

i dunno - the match between Clement and Bester is stuck at 2 break points for bester.....you would expect them to try and play out that game before going in for a rain-break? ATP scoreboard is always a bit unreliable though - always tends to stall at the most annoying moments

Not even showing anything now?!

Going to see all 4 quarters and the night semi.
I really hope Fed is in those matches or I'll be pretty sad.

This tournament should be pretty good all in all I think.

Wow, how cool. Given the strength of the field you should get some good matches!

That Blake match scoreline looks like it was a bit tight - and what happened in the second set re Baggy v Moya? Thats another one I would have like to have seen but maybe it didnt live up to expectations?

*goes off to try and find review of the match*

There was nothing much to blake's match ...James had 14 or more chances to break never really did except in tie breaks.....but his overall game was quite sound and his quick reflexive return of serve was top notch too.....
Melzer did well to fight off the breakpoints...however through out the match it would have taken a Blake loss of focus to let him in.....

Moya was simply palying his normal game...I guess it wasn't clay so a bit of the fight left him....just a shame..but I guess thats life. :)

Pebs - August 8, 2007 10:42 AM (GMT)
thanks Suzi :)

I wonder how far both Blake or Baggy will go then...

Well Blake's just pulled out... saves him choking later on, I guess ;)

Andy Murray got hammered by Fognini 6-2, 6-2. Not as big a surprise as it sounds; rustiness was always going to appear at some point, and Fognini, unlike Ginepri, has been in decent form recently.

bugger - why did Blake pull out? would quite like to see him do well here.

Just read about Murray  I reckon it might be a bit of a surprise and blow to him!

elabaorate suzi????

it was the crowd...Dancevic is canadia so With the crowd chanting "Go, Frank, Go" between points , and some still chanting even when Verdasco was serving..... after he won the game on his serve he made a gesture and a few choice words to to the crowd... and after going to take his seat he kept arguing witht umpire about it.

however the umpire did warn the crowd to behave in a congenial manner..... but you know he is their man ,, they just can't help it! :)
