Title: Wimbledon 2007 Opinions

HenmanHillForever - July 12, 2007 05:04 PM (GMT)
What are your views on Wimbledon 2007 as a whole?
Do you think it was terrible, or particularly good?

I personally watched more coverage of Wimbledon 2007 as i have with any other Wimbledon, and although i am still rather young and haven't properly watched too many Wimbledon Championships, i stil think that overall it was probably the best i have seen. This is mainly due to the various quality matches that i witnessed over the 2 week tournament, despite all the anoying rain delays that took place right from the 1st day of the tournament. Matches such as; Henman vs Moya, Djokovic vs Baghdatis, Roddick vs Gasquet, Federer vs Nadal, Henin vs Bartoli, Tipsarevic vs Gonzalez, Jankovic vs Safarova, Djokovic vs Hewitt, Henin vs Williams, Vaidisova vs Mauresmo, Williams vs Hantuchova, etc, are all matches that i think made these Championships the best that i have seen, and i certainly hope too see matches like these at next years Championships.

What are your views on Wimbledon 2007

Firstly, welcome to the board

to answer your question, i got to see a lot of the later matches, and some of them were just amazing, and the men's final was the most competitive for years! Even from the start, the Henman vs. Moya matched just couldn't be matched for excitement

Personally, though, I think it ended up being slightly tainted by the rain, and also by some bizarre decisions from the organisers. The djoko vs. baghdatis quarter was fantastic and i really felt Djoko could challenge Nadal, but of course the schedule caught up with him. i won't get in to the debate about some of the decisions because we've all ranted about it a fair bit, but i will say that as much as this Wimby had some great matches, I think it could have had some better ones if it weren't for the rain and some pretty awful scheduling decisions.

That sums it up for me .Henman/Moya,Roddick /Gasquet and Federer/Nadal were classics and saved an otherwise mediocre Wimbledon.

Yay, I'm not the newbie anymore! ;) Welcome!

I think that this has been a relatively good wimbledon although it's unfortunate that some of the very good matches clashed because of the rain and the doubles was rather sidelined (grrr)!

Having said that Wimbledon is often remembered for the finals and Nadal v Federer was a blinder! I was lucky enough to get tickets for the 2002 final but it was Nalbandian v Hewitt and was quite frankly pretty dismal and as a result that is what I remember from the final!

So overall? Could have been worse!

Welcome to the board :)

I think the quality and competitivenss was amazing this year, both on the men's and women's. There were soem excellent macthes. The downside fo rme was that becuae fo rain and scheduling, they played catchup and packed in so many great matches on one day that I saw a much lower percentage than I normally see. yes w ecna use a video but that onyl gives us one extra match, and several just were nto televised. I prefer the more gradual build up of things, it all went so quick at the end that I feel my withdrawal symptoms are mich worse this year!

Shame it ha dot eb that way, imagien tunign in EVERY day to these kind fo matches. The bgi let down of course was the men's semi's that were rubbish becuase two of the opponents were injured and exhausted. :(

My fave moments were Henman v Moya, Gasquet beating Roddick, Fed getting Wimby No 5 and Borg being there, and of course Murray and Jankovic winning the mixed. :D

Mix and match really.... some fine, fine matches - and like Miss says - Wimbledon often remembered for the final and this was a good un - so that all goes in its favour... but the weather put a dampner on things to say the least (no puns intended) and may have left a certain sour taste in some players mouths who were forced to play over so many days or had to cram it all in at the end and may, as a result, played at a lower level than they might have done.

That said, you cant control the weather, and whilst middle Sunday will be part of infamy for the organisers for evermore, they wouldnt have been able to stop some of the frantic cramming that went on... it really was luck of the draw for some players.

I still loved it though, being able to come home and watch tennis was such a treat, scoreboards just arent the same!

I know. I Love it so much I just wish I'd been able to have tennis on more often and also ha dmore taped stuff to watch afterwards. I wish I'd got the Henman and Gasquet matches to watch again but I I have a hard rive digibox and had to delete them to make way for more stuff. :(

I thought it was really good overall. The weather was a definite low-point and there were absolute shockers of matches such as Berdych vs Nadal, and the entire mens semis. Still there were some fantastic matches thrown in, particulary on the men's side in the closing stages. While the men had great quality, the women's draw was just full of drama. I mean Bartoli vs henin just had me completely gripped, i'd never seen anything like it in my life. A lot of matches this year i was just so emotionally involved in, sometimes too much  .

The men's final was absolutely fantastic as the men's finals have been bereft of good finals since the classic 2001 final, so it was so thrilling to watch. The women's final was different, as it was just a stunning display from Venus as it was from the fourth-round onwards.

Overally, Wimby 07 rocked! :B&B:

The womne's hadbmore close fought and dramtic matches than usual. There seemed to be more 5 setters. I enjoyed Henin v Bartoli too, in fact Bartoli was the story of the tournie really. Venus played a blinder, the onyl dissappointment for me as a spectator was that it was a shame Venus's last four matches were all straight sets, inc the final. I think the women's deserved a more dramtic end than it got. The men were lucky really that after those dire semis we got a classic final.

Congratulations Roger on another magnificent performance. If Andy doesn't win it next year I hope you make it six.

Well the weather was bloody awful, but that's a given.

I think I shall remember this for Richard Gasquet stepping up (such a shame he had to play the SF so soon after his QF win), for Murray/Jankovic (and Boggo/South let's not forget them either) and for Marion "I have no neck and have a tendency to beat players RF likes" Bartoli's surprise run to the final (though she did counter the question of whether she was surprised to be in a SF by saying "I'm a top 20 player, I shouldn't be surprised.").

Bring on Wimbledon 2008!

I think Gasquet was the performance of the men's for me and his match with Roddick the best of the lot. Surprisingly it hardly gets a mention on here. I don't hing Fed ro Rafa racked up Gasquet's amazing stats of about 94 winners to 28 errors in a match

Well done Richard, the star of the show

Overall I liked it :)

I thought the weather was definitely the worst part of the tournament and it did wreck some players chances I felt as some were having to be out on court every single day. Nadal's match against Soderling took five days!

However there was some incredible matches to watch. Nadal's epic against Soderling was awesome to watch and quite funny at times too with the shorts pulling and the waiting around. I also really enjoyed Bartoli V Henin as Bartoli completely turned the match around and totally deserved to be in the final.

But the best was saved til last. Federer V Nadal was an epic final and one we've been waiting for for a good long while now. I dont think we've had a really thrilling final for a while now but this was amazing. I was on the edge of my seat. And watching Fed at the end when he realised he'd equaled Borg's record was just so great to watch! He is well on his way to becoming the greatest player of all time imo.
