Title: A disaster womens draw

It seems that the three best candidates on grass - Sharapova, Mauresmo and Venus - are all in the same half of the draw, and Muresmo and Venus could meet in the Quarter final! :o

The other half is wide open, I can see the champion coming from the top half myself

Sorry can't agree.

Top half has Venus, Maria & Mauresmo

Bottom half has Justine, Kim, Svetlana & Martina

To me that's a pretty even draw especially when you consider the weakest top seeds on grass (Dementieva & Schnyder) are in different halves & Hingis is Schynder's projected 4th round opponent so in essence she replaces Schynder as projected Quarter finalist in that section.

Yes Venus & Sharapova are the most natural grass courters & are in the same half but Mauresmo's grass court record isn't as good as Justine's & isn't that much better than Kim or Svetlana.

All in all i'd say it's a pretty balanced draw.

i think the winner is most certainly coming from the top half - Kim went out with a whimper to Dav last year, Henin was knackered and grass doesn't suit her, Kuzzy could be strong, Martina will get bashed of the court by somebody.

the top half semi will be the final for me if it all pans out - Amelie has been to semis the last couple of years at SW19 and looks very comfortable on the grass!

I think we're looking at a Venus v Justine final.

If Venus gets through the first few rounds she will be hard to stop - but you can just as easily see her cocking up in an early round...

I agree with GS :ok:

It's not as bad as the incredibly top-heavy AO draw...and the winner came from the bottom half in the end!

But that was because the bottom half was not such a battle - Justine had twice the work of Amelie to get to the final...

Anyway, it is still lop sided for grass, it shows that maybe the women ought to adopt the grass points system the men have...
