overall, a very satisfying wimbledon :ok: :ok:

roger and venus are deserved champions

wimbledon 07 for me...

the rain was garbage.

centre court, sans roof, took a little getting used to.

parity in prize money.  it's about respect...and they earned it.

some pretty sweet ladies matches, among them: serena/justine, jankovic/safarova, venus/morigami, ivanovic/vaidisova

gasquet and djokovic (i think) proved that they can play big occasion tennis, or at least would like a crack at it.

they need to get rid of that on-court challenge screen, or move it. there's nothing more unnverving that waiting to receive serve down the end with a larger than life mug shot of yourself smiling back at you roflmao

no mention of w07 would be complete without a shout out to serena and toiletgate

and as for Martina, i hope she gets healthy and sticks around :)

and with that i'm going to enjoy a vodka soda and a joint.

cheers to a great tournament

I agree, overall Wimbledon has been very enjoyable, even the weather issues are fading memories!

Match of the tournament- Federer vs Nadal (although the Henman vs Moya was also very good). There were also some good women's matches (e.g. Venus vs Morigami) in a draw that was very open.

Shock of the tournament- Gotta be Henin losing in the semis!

One's to watch- Djokovic and possibly Gasquet on the men's side and Ivanovic and Krajieck on the women's side.

Added bonus- Murray and Jankovice winning the Mixed Doubles. All doubles tournaments this year have been of very high quality, and all credit to many of the players for playing 3 matches in a day.

Controversy of the tournament- Liezel Huber getting whacked by Petrova smash and screaming at her to get away when she went to apologise.

Fashion faux pas- Kuznetsova's corn rows- no no no!

I could go on, but I won't!

The Daily Mails - Highs and Lows

Best match There were quite a few contenders between the rain: Andy Roddick v Richard Gasquet, Marion Bartoli v Justine Henin, Tim Henman v Carlos Moya, Novak Djokovic v Marcos Bagdhatis. But for quality nothing exceeded the men's singles final between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

Tearjerker Richard Williams, father of Venus, consoling Bartoli's father Walter, who broke down as she paid tribute to him after losing the women's singles final.

Best earner for the All England Club The 10,000 umbrellas they sold in a fortnight.

Biggest loss maker The 6,500 sunhats that remained unsold.

Take the money and run Israel's Anna Smashnova walked off with £10,000 for losing 6-0, 6-0 in her first round, one of 17 first round losers among the women to win four games or fewer.

Best shot Henin's dropshot hit from behind the baseline against Serena Williams at 15-30 when she was trying to serve out their quarter-final. Much good it was to do her eventually.

Weirdest nervous tics Nadal constantly pulling at his shorts around his bottom, Bartoli's skipping before serving.

Best British performance Jamie Murray winning the mixed doubles, with an honourable mention to girls' semi-finalist Anna Fitzpatrick.

A very British gesture Giving a wildcard to Croatia's Marin Cilic (as did the Artois Championships) when he will be returning to Wimbledon in September for the Davis Cup match against ... Great Britain.

Most welcome newcomer Serbia's Goethe-quoting Janko Tipsarevic. (I would have also said Marion Bartolli, no???)

What we cannot get enough of The passion and sportsmanship displayed by Djokovic and Bagdhatis in their marathon quarter-final.

What we've had quite enough of Puerile shouts from the crowd breaking the hush on Centre Court, such as the especially unfunny "C'mon Tim!" when he is not even playing.

Most difficult job Either the court-coverers, or those having to explain the expensive failings of British tennis after the second round singles wipeout.

Question left hanging in the air How does Nadal keep running and running?

This was my fav match apart from the nail-biting Fed win against Nadal.Love the way Gasquet plays. He's my prefered young gun now.I also enjoy Bagy's on court persona-brings a little humour to tennis. :)

Very much agree with this.

I can't warm up to Djoko as much even though I probably believe he'll do better than Gasquet simply because I still believe that under pressured times, he might use some tricks to break the game rhythm as he did in the past.

In Gasquet and Bagdhatis, I have faith in their fairplay...and to me that's very important and much part of the whole picture. I don't believe in winning at all cost.
