Title: How to cope with Wimbledon withdrawl symptoms?
MissSospanFach - July 8, 2007 09:32 PM (GMT)
Well, what are we to do with our lives? Lol, I always feel a void when the Championships finish- I literally haven't done anything apart from watch/listen to tennis for the past fortnight (actually, longer than that if you count Eastbourne, Queen's and Nottingham!!).
I guess I haven't got any excuses for not getting on with my Masters research now :(
I'm meant to do be starting teacher training in September but am so tempted to take a year out to earn some money so I can get to one of the other slams! (Btw is it wrong to have doubts about teaching purely because it restricts me to getting to Wimbledon for just the middle Saturday of the tournament?! Hehe)

last year was even worse, the Men's final and the World Cup final on same day
What the Dickens!
Major sporting event withdrawal symptoms

But at least it's better than after RG where I had withdrawal symptoms plus Roger's defeat to cope with.

Its a consolation isnt it ! Roger equals Borgs record. :ok:
This board is a good way of coping with Wimbledon withdrawal symptoms .The discussions will go on for a while yet.
And as a golf fan, its not long to the Open...
yorkshire - July 9, 2007 10:57 AM (GMT)
watch our recorded DVDs over and over again... :D
TeamJustine - July 9, 2007 03:00 PM (GMT)
Play topspin tennis all day
Where I loose to james blake but console myself by beating Fed
Oh yeah and watch Recorded matches of RG
But It is a struggle...its the same every year - Cold Turkey. US open coming soon but thats on Sky ( ) and during the middle of the night
WimbledonAce - July 9, 2007 06:53 PM (GMT)
I am feeling pretty low :( But at least we have LA in a week. And then not long til Andys back  And then the US Open and Im on hols
SuperBRAT - July 9, 2007 09:12 PM (GMT)
I hate i when Wimby finishes. For those of us without SKY it signals the end of our tennis viewing for 6 months. We seem to get loads of tennis for two months from the FO, Queens and Wimby. Then it's nothing which makes it worse. It feels worse this year as th erain meant we saw less matches on TV when they crammed the schedule in. I taped a few matches but there were several that I'd like to see not televsised. Not that same after tj e event though. Roll on next Wimby :D

Hi SB, don't you subscribe to ATPmasterseries online? the streaming is quite good and relatively cheap. I think it is about £8 for one Master series.

Is it? Well that is cheap. I tell you what I am not used to watching on line but every time I try any livestream it seems my crappy old PC gets a terrible recepetion or crashes. Do you have to have a certain standard of PC to run these things? I tired BBC for Wimby and the picture was really bad.
Tenez - July 9, 2007 10:05 PM (GMT)
I am not sure about the minimum specs of the PC but I would think the cnnection speed is more important. Mine is pretty standard 8MB. Depending on your connection speed, the BBC Wimbledon streaming is going to offer you a small or nigger window but I agree the image is not great in any case. Best for you would be to buy one match (£2?) as a test. In fact you can test it before you buy so that is the best way to check.

Thanks for that advice tenez :) I might give it a go and see what happens. With Wimby I got a small postage stamp sized screen that was clear but too small, then a biiger full sized one that was blurred and useless. I'm glad I did not pay for their top up so as I could get the extra matches choice.
Big Al - July 9, 2007 10:29 PM (GMT)
8 MB is good. I can only get 1MB on my broadband which isnt very good for tennis , but wi-fi is coming soon to my area...
TeamJustine - July 9, 2007 10:31 PM (GMT)
I think our next dose of BBC tennis is Davis Cup....*looks and calendar then sighs*

On a similar line- Rafa to Rog- "Second helpings hey? So that's what you did with your five days off!".

*sigh*
it just hasnt been right when I get in from work this week, no more switching on the telly straight away to shout at some tennis player who cant hear me.... :(

I love that pic - I saw it on another board with the caption 'the baby is due in January'... that made me giggle!

MissSospanFach - July 11, 2007 07:30 PM (GMT)
I know, I'm the same. On a positive note by trying to keep busy I've done more research since monday than from the beginning of Queen's to the final on sunday!

thing is, I have to listen to the kids tv again now - it was much more soothing to listen to the thwack of tennis balls!
 something about that sounds odd...

Re: SW19 withdrawal symptoms... probably not an option to too many, but I ended up going out and playing a few hours of tennis..
And Pebs, I do agree about the sound of tennis balls being hit being very soothing.. whether watching or playing the game :ok:

:D glad thats not just me. Its one of the things I love about tennis, the quiet until the crowd erupt, so you can just hear that noise of the ball being whacked and whizzing through the air... you can almost hear the concentration...
I miss it :(
