WimbledonAce - July 8, 2007 06:15 PM (GMT)
1st set Murray and Jankovic!!! :yahoo:

SuperBRAT - July 8, 2007 06:18 PM (GMT)
Murray really is a good player. ist set to the Brit and Serb 6-4!

t's hard for me to watch this, I'm such a fan of Bjorkman but I'd love to see a Brit win, and Janko and Murray are just great to watch. Are they or aren;t they  and all that giggling! :D Murray is good at the net, Jelena has nto quite got the tactics yet but she's improving and holds her own with her forhand form the back. :ok:

SerenaW19 - July 8, 2007 06:24 PM (GMT)
I hope they win, Jankovic deserves a slam title of some kind :D

And it would be so ironic that Jamie is the first Murray to get a slam

I've really like Jelena in the mixed doubles, she's been smiley and very pleasant to watch :)

Flame - July 8, 2007 06:31 PM (GMT)
they're toast in the second set.

Flame - July 8, 2007 06:37 PM (GMT)
major regrouping required for the decider. champagne is decidedly on ice here.

So do I! :D Those two are stars!

it would be hilarious if Jamie was the first Murray as you say. He is a good doubles player though, and he has years to develop his skills. :D

Flame - July 8, 2007 06:46 PM (GMT)
set all! yikes!

drakey01 - July 8, 2007 06:57 PM (GMT)
3-0 Murray/Jankovic

Come on! :D

Flame - July 8, 2007 07:09 PM (GMT)

SuperBRAT - July 8, 2007 07:09 PM (GMT)
Great match  I love the mixed, wish we'd seen more.

Flame - July 8, 2007 07:12 PM (GMT)
the perfect end to a great wimbledon.

SuperBRAT - July 8, 2007 07:15 PM (GMT)
WOO HOO, what a fairytale and the first British winner in a slam since about 1988? Jeremry Bates and Jo durie I think!

Fabulous, great way to end the tournie!

SerenaW19 - July 8, 2007 07:18 PM (GMT)
Didn't realise it had been that long. Great stuff :D

Another great Wimbly

Dinky Jo - July 8, 2007 07:52 PM (GMT)

First British champion in how many years? Few would have thought it would be Jamie Murray this year, although I had an inkling he might do well. Although my money would have been on the men's doubles, at least before I learnt he was about to team up with Jelena. Her returns were fabulous!

First since 1987! I agree, I thought Murray would do well this year although I thought it would be with Booty! I'm so glad that I got to see him play 3 times...and my friends laughed when I chose court 14 over a chance to see Serena in her 2nd round match on Centre (which only lasted 44 mins! HA!

yorkshire - July 8, 2007 08:23 PM (GMT)
Great to see, I caught the final set of the final.

Good to see players out there who actually look like they're enjoying themselves. Unlike some of the women on the singles tour who will remain nameless but go out there looking angry as if they are playing against the whole world.

Are they a couple then or what? :D

much as the press seem desperate to make out that they are, as far as i've read, they're not - but i do think they both like playing with the press a bit......

does anyone have any links to where i can get highlights of that match - i saw the first two sets and then had to leave  I'd really like to see that last set......

yorkshire - July 8, 2007 08:39 PM (GMT)
It might be on the BBC2 highlights show, tonight at 10 - 11 p.m.

On another positive note, nice to see Alicia Molik (not Stosur as the thread title suggests!) getting back into grand slam finals this year after being out for so long!

Btw how did I get these avatar things to work, when I try to upload a picture from my comp pics it said it isn't valid even though its a .jpg and less than a 100 pixels?

yorkshire - July 8, 2007 08:51 PM (GMT)
They'll probably tag it on the end after the Fed Rafa match.

They'll want to gloat about the first British Wimbledon champion for 20 years. :P

Check the size of the pic - it has to be less than 25kb. If it is bigger than that, try uploading whatever the pic is to http://www.imageshack.us/ then use the link they give you.

Lovely end to the tournei and our first slam winner for 20 years! I'm delighted as you can tell! :yahoo:

20 yrs. I was a year off. 1987 - Jo Durie and Jezza Bates. :D

Indcidentally I used to do a quiz and we had a pound a go raffle where if your ticket was drawn you won the pot if you got a question right . We had to make th equestions slightly tricky as there was often 80 -100 quid at stake. I set the questions one week and my sports oen was who was the last British man to win a GS? The guy answers Fred Perry as expected, I say No, sorry next person to answer is ... and draw their ticket. this guy goes mentla and threatens to take my money form the bar cos he swears he is right. Then a guy stand up and answers right, and explains to this guy it was doubles. After 10 mins we manged to get him to shut up! I've never seen a quiz question caus eso much trouble! roflmao

Try 10.30 as in now on the highlight package BBC2. Although I bet they show very little.

i was watching it at my folks and my mum was on the computer.....

i watched the first two sets then decided i really had to drive back home, so i missed the last set  but it was great fun - really enjoyed it. My mum reckons doubles is more fun than singles at times - at least for people who aren't big tennis fans.

I'm watching Today at Wimbledon online now - hoping they'll at least show match point

Dinky Jo - July 8, 2007 09:59 PM (GMT)
oh, ffs BBC, i'm glad they showed 10 mins of the mixed doubles, but some of us don't really care whether Murray/jankovic are a couple - they seemed obsessed by the body language between the pair and the only clip of the interview they showed was the one about whether jelena would give jamie a kiss    I've read some of the interviews with Murray over the last week, and the press just seem obsessed

MissSospanFach - July 8, 2007 10:16 PM (GMT)
I know what you mean! It's good that they have a laugh and had some sort of chemistry but the beeb could have made more of the fact they WON Wimbledon!!

Btw, andy murray's website normally puts up the press conferences etc so you should at worst be able to read a full transcript if not the actual recording.

Also radio wimbledon is now on a loop with highlights and press conferences.

I always knew Jelena would win a Slam one day! roflmao

I'm so happy for her and great a Brit has won a Wimbledon title too!

For those of you want to see some more jamie murray interviews, check out the bbc tennis section where they've put up an interview that he did this morning on the breakfast news!

Jamie's blog from the Guardian website:

We had chemistry and now we have the title too

The Wimbledon champion reveals his winning emotions and why he and Jelena Jankovic are great together.

Jamie MurrayJuly 9, 2007 1:52 AM

I am a Wimbledon champion. I am probably going to keep saying that to myself over and over again for the next few days until it sinks in. It is a pretty amazing feeling. Honestly, the final felt like all our other matches in that we were just having fun. The penny did not really drop until we got up to the royal box and lifted the trophies and everybody was standing up and clapping, with all the photographers taking pictures.

Every young player dreams of winning Wimbledon when they are growing up. It might not be singles, but to be up there on the final Sunday lifting a trophy is pretty special. To win your first grand slam title at Wimbledon, my home grand slam, my first slam final and my first tournament with Jelena Jankovic, is unbelievable.

She says that maybe it was destiny and I think she might be right. I saw my brother, Andy, afterwards and he told me how proud he was, though I didn't see him during the match. My mum and dad, my granny and grandpa and my aunt and uncle were all in the players' box and though they were jumping up and down going bananas it was quite a calming influence for me to have them there. My granny will be pretty excited and I think after that she will probably bake enough shortbread for the whole of Dunblane.

Until yesterday, Jelena and I hadn't thought for one minute about winning the tournament. Each time we went on court we've enjoyed being out there and playing together and I think that is the main reason why we have had such success. I know there has been a bit of speculation about how well we are getting on - I assure you that nothing is going on - but we do have great chemistry as doubles partners.

The man's job in the mixed doubles is to be the more dominant player but she has bailed me out plenty of times and has held things together. Sometimes it has been my job to make her laugh or lighten the mood because mixed doubles can be hard on the woman's confidence, particularly if the guy on the other side is belting her serve back or targeting her on the volleys.

I give her some stick when she misses a shot because I know that she is not the sort of person to go in a mood and any stick I give her she gives straight back to me. I know what people have been saying about our relationship but it's just like a brother and sister.

A lot of people have asked me if my success here means I have come out from Andy's shadow a bit but though it's nice to be recognised for my own achievements, especially at Wimbledon, it is not something I really think about. Playing on Centre Court and having our matches on TV has put me in the spotlight but I have never felt bitter about Andy getting more attention than me. We don't compare ourselves to each other.

I have joked that nobody would have put money on me making a Wimbledon final before my brother but let's get serious - it is a lot harder to make a singles final than it is to do it in doubles. For one thing I have Jelena to help me, and every time we go into a grand slam I have two chances to win - men's and mixed - to his one. Mind you, I will definitely have some bragging rights over him after this.

British players have not had a lot of success at Wimbledon this year and there has been a lot of negativity around. I hope my win with Jelena inspires people. I think I would be inspired if I saw a British person win a Wimbledon title of any kind. It might be mixed doubles but I can still say I am a Wimbledon champion for the rest of my life.

Over the moon for them! Was more excited about seeing this match yesterday than the final! But neither of the matches dissapointed!

Had tears in my eyes lastnight watching the final, brilliant :ok: I am so delighted for Jamie and Jelena. Jamie is so lovely and Jelena seems his perfect partner, always smiling. Was fantastic that they could win this 1st time playing together. It is so nice for Jamie to get some attention after all the Andy M spotlight. Bet his parents are so proud and it was so lovely to see Andy there cheering them on at the end. Well done guys, fantastic, so so pleased
