Title: The Best Venus blitzs!
SerenaW19 - July 7, 2007 05:31 PM (GMT)
What do you think are Venus' best matches where she has just outplayed and blown her opponent off the court?
The best ones I can think of against elite players are:
2000 Wimbledon def. Davenport 62 76
2000 Stanford def. Davenport 61 64
2001 Indian Wells def. Dementieva 60 63
2001 US Open def. Clijsters 63 61
2001 US Open def. Capriati 64 62
2001 US Open def. S.Williams 62 64
2002 Wimbledon def. Henin 63 62
2003 Australian def. Henin 63 63
2005 Wimbledon def. Pierce 60 76
2005 Wimbledon def. Sharapova 76 61
2007 Wimbledon def. Sharapova 61 63
2007 Wimbledon def. Kuznetsova 63 64

hmm, maybe in the first set against Pierce, but in the second set there was nothing to seperate them so i wouldnt say she blew her away, just that Mary started off slow, but i would say that

Yes but overall in the context of the match she was dominating Liam :P and really nailed that tie break ;) Mary was exceptional in the second set and could win Wimbledon on that form, but Venus always seemed to have the upperhand even if not by much.

think i'ld go for
2007 Wimbledon def. Sharapova 61 63
because Sharpova was playing really well too, Venus was just awesome. I think scorlines can be deceptive eg in the 2001 US Open Serena didn't play well at all, it was one of their most awkward matches, you could cut the tension with a knife,
hardly Serena at her best.
Kuzi was playing really well at Wimbledon too, she didn't put a foot wrong, but Venus was just too strong.
I saw Venus play Seles on hardcourt not long after she had won Wimbledon for the first time (forget where) and Venus was virtually unplayable-best i'ld ever seen her play, but the Sharapova match was possibly Venus at her best ever imo
What i found odd is that Pat Cash didn't think her serve and forehand weren't as good when she was dominating the game. Which i found odd because for three matches this year i thought they were better-admittedly Venus has been far from consistent over the past two years, but looking at her performance in her recent matches that doesn't make sense-how good can a human being play!

Yes but Serena doesn't need to play her best for Venus to blitz her :P
You could cut the tension with a knife, but that's true of most matches where the sisters play each other  I thought Serena played reasonably well at the start and towards the end, it was only really a period of 7 games in the middle where Serena went off the rails. Venus at the US Open 2001, Wimbledon 2000, Wimbledon 2007 from the fourth round onwards, are the most dominating tournaments I've seen her play.
The ones you mention on the US hardcourt season 2000, are also very dominating. She beat Davenport 64 61 in one match :yikes: And then you mention the one with Seles of course....

Venus was ferocious in that first set against mary at Wimby, she just blitzed winner after winner past Pierce.
Her matches against Sharapova at Wimby too, just absolute dominance. Serving so superbly, moving as well as i'd seen anyone EVER, and just so focused.
As a Venus fan, what a treat those matches were :D roflmao
