I think Serena actually NEEDS the win more than Venus. I think she'll be difficult to stop if she gets over this injury, she must be starving for a Grand Slam win after her FO and Wimbledon disappointments.

well for me, i don't think serena will win it, because of the injury she's carrying, i don't think venus will win it, bar wimbledon, her form hasn't been good, and she's a different player outside wimbledon, mauresmo looks like pulling out, and i don't see henin winning it, or the two serbs. for me it looks like a russian winner this year, maybe kuznetsova.

with her injury/injuries i would not be surprised if serena is absent from the USO this year. .

Serena has only missed one US Open since she turned pro and that was because she was having knee surgery at the time. She'll be there ;)

Also Im not quite sure how Maria has more votes than Venus.

Despite winning Wimbledon only 5 days before she just enhanced her perfect record against Petrova and beat Chakatvetze 64 61 at the Fed Cup, so it doesn't look like we're going to see a dip in form. The only thing that will stop Venus being a major contender at the USO is exhaustion like in 2005 or injury.

I wish she wasn't playing WTT though, it's too much!

Venus afterall has won the US Open twice and those were two times she had won Wimbledon in the same year.
I'd be very surprised if Venus doesn't do well at the US Open. I guess for her she'd like to get her ranking up into the top 8 but as she showed at Wimbledon, seedings played little part in her ability to win a Slam! :)

In the last 3 wimby's, venus's ranking has been out of the top 10, so she really does disprove the theory that top seeds win the big events. not when the goddess is in town :D

Venus will hopefully have a great Open. she'll get more matches this year than she got in 05( due to flu) and she'll be in fine fettle for when it begins. She's certainly a top 3 player atm IMO now. wimby really confirmed that to me. When venus is playing her best, only Serena has the weaponary to stay with her. Venus is the most intimidating athletic prospect in the WTA. Hopefully it will be in her favour at the US Open.
