Title: Order of Play for tomorrow (Friday)???

MissSospanFach - July 5, 2007 05:02 PM (GMT)
Hey all, now that it looks like the rain has set in for the evening I was wondering what everyone thinks the order of play will be for tomorrow?

Sue keeps saying that the women's semis are scheduled for tomorrow as are the bottom half of the men's quarters, but if Fed and A-Rod don't play then what will happen?

I'm trying to decide whether to head up there tomorrow or not so thoughts would be appreciated!

liam_valid - July 5, 2007 05:07 PM (GMT)
im assuming both womens matches will be on centre, plus the rest of Feds match, with the other guys 1/4s on court one

Dinky Jo - July 5, 2007 06:25 PM (GMT)
play has ended for the day......

i think wimbledon may have to concede that it's going to finish on monday......

MissSospanFach - July 5, 2007 06:34 PM (GMT)
According to Radio WImbledon play starts tomorrow at 11am with either the Nadal 1/4 final or Fed 1/4 final (I can't remember which comes first) and then the Ivanonvic vs Williams.

Court Number 1 is Baghdatis vs Djokovic followed by Roddick vs Gasquet and then Hennin vs Bartoli.

According to my calculations the doubles (particularly the mixed) are in complete disarray.

Mixed doubles- still on 2nd round match to finish, followed by 6 x 3rd round and then not to mention the quarters, semis and final!

Ladies doubles- Half a 3rd round match followed by all the quarters, semis and final.

Gentleman's doubles- One full 3rd round match (Stretch and Booty) and then the same as the ladies doubles.

If they want to finish on Sunday, there is some serious playing to be done and I think Jamie Murray could be the most affected!

Dinky Jo - July 5, 2007 06:37 PM (GMT)
you'll probably get to see a lot of doubles if you head up there tomorrow :P probably see jamie murray twice :D

Dinky Jo - July 5, 2007 06:50 PM (GMT)
1926: Play will resume at 1100 on Friday and this time Nadal gets the jump on Federer as he is up first on Centre Court against Berdych. Fed will then pick up his quarter-final against Ferrero with the scores tied at 5-5 in the first set. Ivanovic and Venus then go head-to-head in their semi-final.

Over on Court One, Marcos Baghdatis is first on against Djokovic, followed by Roddick versus Gasquet. Justine Henin rounds off the play there in her semi against Marion Bartoli.

I know! I was tempted to try and get tickets for centre court on ticketmaster but there are so many good doubles I may just go and queue. Any idea what the queue is like in these last few days? I'm guessing its shorter than the first week? Would I get in for 11 if I got there at 10ish?

Hi MissF

Nice to see you enjoying your first day on here and contributing some good stuff to the board :ok: A lot of us here are refugees from the old BBC so ur in good company.

If you are ever on the board and looking to chat in general, pop in the Deuce Bar forum and have a nosey at the Heyyupp thread, that is like a social general chat thread, we are all friendly so feel free to pop in. :D
Although don't attempt to read from the beginning as there are over 4000 pages!

On a diff note, why are they watering the courts at Wimbledon

Ah... the dry sort! :P

MissF - i read on the BBC website yesterday that it was eerily quiet at wimbledon - that people who were queuing were easily getting tickets for main courts, and that it was incredibly quiet in the grounds. Although, you may get to see some good matches on the outer-courts, simply because of scheduling :)

if you do go, let us know how you get on :ok:

MissSospanFach - July 5, 2007 08:00 PM (GMT)
Thanks for that Dinky Jo, I think I am going to head up while I still have the chance (next year I'll be hours away). Trying to organise which matches I'd like to see- at the mo I'm thinking-

Stubbs/Peschke vs Stosur (if she's healthy)/ Raymond then
Damm/Paes vs Zimonjic vs Santoro (Court 18) then

hopefully Murray/Butorac (if they win their first match) vs the Bryan brothers.

I'll let you know when I get back!

MissSospanFach - July 6, 2007 09:50 PM (GMT)
Hey all! Just got back from Wimbledon and thought I'd fill you in on amazing day! I was undecided whether I'd go but thought I might as well, and boy was it worth it!

Didn't have to queue, basically just walked straight in! Watched the Stosur/Raymond vs Stubbs/ Peschke match on a very cold and windy court 4 which started at 11.

Then caught the last two sets of Murray/Butorac on court 2, then a bit of Santoro/Zimonjic vs Paes/Damm, then to court 3 where it was Petrova/ Kuznetsova vs Black/Huber. That was controversial- Petrova aimed a return at the body of Huber which ended up hitting her on her neck/collar bone. Huber screamed and collapsed to the floor crying then the Russian pair went to check she was ok and she screamed at Petrova (who was trying to apologise) to leave her alone. In the mean time the Black/Huber coaches/family were next to me and saying how the Russians had a bad attitude because they were laughing and joking throughout the match. Anyway after about 10-15 mins of attention and lots of ice play continued. Needless to say there wasn't much of a handshake!

*breath*

Then I saw the Murray/Jankovic mixed doubles which was very impressive and at the end Jankovic made Murray kiss her on the cheek, which given the recent press attention they've been getting, was amusing.

Then I went to see the Ivanisivic/ Pioline vs Woodforde/Woodbridge and THEN I managed to get a resale to see the final set of the Roddick match and was only four rows from the front.

Although I'd been twice last week, this visit was defo the most enjoyable!

Anyway, thats my ramble over, thought I'd share!
:P

P.S. Can't belive Henin lost, I would have put money on her getting to the final!

MissSospanFach - July 6, 2007 09:53 PM (GMT)
Oh and btw, the sun was so strong by mid-afternoon that my face is now almost the same colour as those famous strawberries!

thanks for sharing - sounded like a fun day :)

I caught only a bit of the Henin match and thought that although Bartoli was playing very well, Henin would come through okay - was sooo surprised to read of result later.

Also caught a bit of the Djoko match - and think both players did great and then read about the Roddick match to which all I can do is :D

On a diff note - welcome to the board, hope you're liking it :)

Pebs, you do know you can watch today at wimbledon online don't you? you should at least be able to catch the highlights of the big matches. I know you're busy looking after mini and micro (and Mr :P ) but if you can ever get a spare hour i would see if you can watch the highlights. I was kind of lucky and able to watch both matches today and they were brilliant

hey Jo  yep, I tried to watch the Nadal match a couple of days ago and my streaming was terrible - but when I have this room to myself - I might settle down with a brew and the highlights - thanks hun :)

Dinky Jo - July 6, 2007 10:34 PM (GMT)
yeah, sometimes the live streaming is pretty bad, although it was actually alright today :) but the stuff that's pre-recorded is generally ok, so long as you have a decent internet connection..... :ok:

ah, well, thats why I need the room to myself - the main router for the internet goes through Mr Pebs' computer - and if he is doing something major - mine slows down considerably

Lex - July 6, 2007 10:38 PM (GMT)
you should get wireless on both PC's hun, then yours won't be slowed down by Mr Pebs' shennanigans

:)

Well done, sounds like you had a fab day :ok: I guess thats what is one positive of the matches being behind, that you can watch loads still at the end of the week. Also I saw on the BBC reporting where you had text in :ok:
