Title: Is Wimbledon 2007 the worst Slam of recent times?

beautiful cornish girl - July 5, 2007 12:02 PM (GMT)
This year\'s Wimbledon has been absolute crap. Definitely one of the worst Slams in recent times.

1. Rain interrupted play like never before.
2. Lack of quality players, eg, Lindsay, Kim, Mary, Jennifer, Monica.
3. Refusal to play on Sunday, on which the weather was good.

I only came on here for Wimbledon, and then was going to fade back into obscurity until January 2008.

This, however, will be my last post on here until then. To prove that I\'m telling the truth, I swear it on my daughters life, you will not see selesfan until January 2008.

the ladies matches have been spot on.

Errr.. In answer to your question. No it hasn't. Wimbledon despite the rain has thrown up some fantastically competitve and dramatic matches.
More than any other tournament so far this year.

I agree with trisco.

The problem si however that when we've had all these dramatic matches, we've not been able to see them all becasue so many big matches have bene played at the same time. This means less are covered on TV. And even when you've got a choice, you don't know which channel to watch! I'm tryign to follow 4 at the same time at the moment, it is ruining my enjoyment tremendously. It's nto the same tpaign them as they are tno live. Besdies who can tape 4 channels at once and then watch them all later? No time and not enough hard drive space.

For me it is a good Wimbledon in terms of quality, but a bad one as a spectator. I feel like I'm missing out all the time, it's hard to get into it when it's like that. :( . The only winners are those lucky enough to have Wimby tickets or passes, as there are sought after matches on more courts.

The organisers should have taken stock yesterday and decided it best to plan to run over into Monday. That way it's fairer to the players and us viewers can see more live matches.

Nonsense...this has been a great Wimbledon, the rain has been frustrating, but I've enjoyed some really enthralling matches:

Henman v Moya
Henman v Lopez
Sugiyama v Sharapova
Nadal v Soderling
Tipsarevic v Gonzalez

Some great quality in Federer v Safin too. I'd actually say, that despite the rain, this is the best slam we've had since US Open 2005.

I feel the women's draw has been absolutely fantastic at times. I mean the drama of Serena vs hantuchova, Venus vs Morigami and Safarova vs jankovic. It's hit the heights the women's draw at times, it really has.

The weather has kind of made the quality intermittent though, especially on the men's side. there has been so many interruptions and poor scheduling( sunday was such an oppurtunity to at least have a chance of finishing on time) and the atmosphere has suffered a little.

However i agree with liam, its been far better than the RG that preceeded this Wimby. Bad weather, poor quality matches etc. At least we're seeing a whole bunch of thrillers here.

WHilst I agree with most of your comments, in fact all but 1, the idea that Venus vs Morigami was a good match :o I watched and I could've sworn that it was pretty rubbish....

As fotr the actual thread, I have to go along with the general consensus that this has been a very good WImbledon (but it misses Kim :( )

Not to mention it's more than slightly daft to slate a Slam for lacking the names that were listed, since virtually all of those have been missing for several Slams now and it's hardly restricted to this Wimbledon. Let's see, we have two official retirements, and three de facto retirements due to prolonged injury and will-she-or-won't-she speculation not to mention advanced years, in that roster. Welcome to the new era.

I agree with the above that we've had quality tennis and surprise developments aplenty. And coming after a tedious RG (long on compelling storylines and breakthroughs but short on actual competition) it's most welcome.

Mind my commentary is restricted to the women's side of things since that seems to be the main angle here. And really I'm only responding at all due to the rain delay. Heh.

Spot on SB. I was trying to view 3 matches at the same time last night which ws frustrating. Then I wanted to watch the highlights while Bogo and partner were ahead in their doubles match. Yes the enjoyment element has been taken away as too many big matches are in competitition on the tv and sadly can't see that being much better tomorrow when I have the day of to....errr view the men's semi finals....not
